State test is computerized. She is looking into purchasing Exam Soft. It works with Blackboard. The pilot study is $2,500. The annual cost is $22,500. It could do lockdown browser and take the place of Respondus. Ralph says it will need Board approval because it is $25,000. It that case we would need to do an RFP and put it out for bid. Donna says she will work with Cindy White to get the ball rolling. Page 1 of 3 2013-11-21 Instructional Technology Committee Meeting

1 Meeting Logistics Item Date Thursday, October 17 th, 2013 Time 2:30 PM Location CHEC-Business Office Conference room-#311 Description 2 Attendees Role Facilitator Note Taker Other Participants Not Attending Name David Hoyt Jennifer Gilchrist Jon Hardesty, George Jackson, Shane Ammons, Heather Webb-Losh, Patricia Pierson, Joe Butler, Ann Blackman, Doug Willis, Ralph Hall 3 Purpose Medium for communication between Information Technology and Academic Affairs on the current and new uses of technology for instruction to plan for the appropriate support infrastructure Research and discuss upcoming trends in instructional technology Identify, evaluate and recommend for implementation new instructional technology Review and revise procedures and parameters for technology usage Identify standard interfaces for instructional technology Review effectiveness of instructional technology Communication of committee decisions to the College community 4 Agenda Topic Owner Minutes Computer Lab Installation of Respondus Lock-down browser/pearson Lockdown Browser Paula Miller (Pearson)/Scott Dollinger (Respondus) Paula requested the installation of Pearson Lockdown in the computer labs at all campuses for her accounting students. The tool is similar to Respondus Lockdown browser, as it does not allow students to move away from the test, use the internet, and keeps the students from getting kicked out of the test, then requiring the instructor to reset the test. Scott Dollinger requested the Respondus Lockdown browser to be installed in J119 as well, to have a more secure testing area. It was discussed that those that opt to use these tools, understand the lab staff is not there to proctor exams, nor is this a secure testing area. Students should understand which product they should be using since the names are very similar and faculty should be prepared to provide this information. The committee agreed to pilot these two products in J119 at SCC. ATNS will complete installation in a couple of weeks and the committee will review at the end of the semester. Office 2013 in Computer Labs Bob Benevides Bob would like to transition to Office 2013 in Summer 2014. Shane suggested the previous rollout schedules worked well. Pilot and test Office 2013 in Summer 2014 and complete the process for Fall 2014. Shane also noted that anyone can request Office 2013 to be installed on their office computer by calling the Help Desk. ITSC 1305 is requesting to pilot Windows 8.1 in J129 and also requested additional memory on those computers. Blackboard Service Pack 12 Heather Sunday, October 20 th - update from 2:00 a.m. to noon Communication to College of Committee Decisions HR is working on re-developing a webpage for all committees to post agendas and minutes. Environmental Scanning All Dropbox issues - Shane Kim Davison and Brenda Kihl will take the idea to leadership to come up with standard agenda and meeting minute forms for district-wide use. Projects In Progress Review All Other items George brought up the topic of encryption. Discussion occurred on desktop and laptop encryption especially on devices with personally identifiable information. It was determined that further discussion and investigation is needed. Shane informed the committee that there will be an RFP developed for network penetration testing in the near future. Learning Catalytics is a program she is using that provides capabilities similar to clickers. It is web-based but operated over wifi technology. Currently, the problem is that the classroom can t get enough concurrent users due to not enough dedicated wireless bandwidth. After discussion, it was agreed to concentrate more wireless coverage at BB219 due to size of classroom and cost. Cameron will work to move all of her classes this semester to BB219. Shane will work with Rebecca on refining the solution. Dave reiterated that this type of project requires prior planning to make it successful from the start. Cameron and Rebecca will report back to the committee after the fall semester on the successes and whether the program will be growing. In the future, rooms utilizing this technology will need to be identified early. Page 1 of 3 2013-09-19 Instructional Technology Committee Meeting

Nursing: Computer Based Adaptive Testing Sleep Technology Software Child Development: Ipads Instruction BB Collaborate Update Abe Johnson/ Kathy Mixson Abe Johnson/ Amber Allen Gary Hodge/ Sharon Hirshy Heather Webb-Losh /Jennifer Summerville Instructional Technology Meeting Kathy and Abe are requesting an on-line testing program that would be administered and proctored on campus, not off campus. They would like to test every week to two weeks. Shane asked where the tests would be given laptops or CPC computer lab? Abe will report back with an actual location so Shane can plan for it. Blackboard does not contain the necessary question types, statistics or adaptive testing to model the national computer based testing. Kathy said they have reviewed ParTest and ExamPro. ATNS will work with them on an online testing solution and Abe and Kathy will send a recommendation back to the committee. The sleep lab at CPC has 2 computer labs. A202 needs additional licenses loaded for students to review their sleep studies. They are requesting that the software be loaded on 5 computers in that lab. The studies can be put on a flash drive for this purpose and viewed in A202. They have the flash drives available. Currently, it is difficult to get all the students around one computer. All agreed to implement this request and ATNS will work with Amber to get the additional licensees installed. Child Development is requesting approval to purchase 20-25 Apple ipads for their Teaching program. Sharon has Carl Perkins funds approved to purchase the ipads. She is looking at using 20-25 ipads on 2 campuses and they would be locked away and used by only her department. Support will be done by AppleCare. Sharon can maintain and control the ipads with an app on ios 7. She will get the name of the app as well as develop a small report to address any concerns. Sharon feels this is important because all elementary schools are using this technology and we are training students who will be the next group of school teachers using it in their classrooms. Committee agreed with the proposal and will forward to the Leadership Team for action. Bb Collaborate is the Wimba replacement. Jennifer and Ann are working on training materials. Jennifer commented that the voice sometimes sounds funny or distorted on web conferencing. Collaborate is currently available through Blackboard and sessions outside Blackboard are moving forward.. Google Docs/Creative Cloud Shane Ammons This is a topic of concern. Faculty wanted Google Chrome installed on their computers in order to run Google Docs. They use this system for homework and then subsequently they grade it and put the grades back out there. The negative side to this is that confidential info can become compromised. It also poses an issue with records retention along with a list of other liability issues for the college. Jon will bring it up with the Dean s and will inform faculty to use Blackboard for this type of correspondence. Environmental Scanning All No one had any to report. Action Item Review Dave N/A Other items Next scheduled meeting Cope Crisson Heather Webb-Losh The internet bandwidth in the H130 and H131 labs at PRC needs to be larger. The labs no longer need to be segmented from the District network. After discussion, those labs will be added to the College s Internet bandwidth. ATNS will work with Cope. Issue that a process should be discussed on how to inform IT/eLC on publisher websites and building blocks that accompany text book adoptions.
