Support for 11-16 progression in MFL With the removal of National Curriculum Levels, the introduction of the Progress 8 performance measure and the announcement of a new 9-1 GCSE grade scale, we know that teachers are looking for reliable ways to track, report on and provide effective feedback about student progress. The Pearson MFL Progression Maps and Scale Our French, Spanish and German Progression Maps are reliable, easy-to-use tools to track students progress over Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Each comprises of 12 steps ranging from low (1) to high (12) challenge. An average student is expected to reach the 4th step by the end of Year 7 and then make one step of progress in each of Years 8-11. The first four steps are closer together to reflect students more rapid progress when they start learning a language. The MFL Scale is structured by skill with a strand for Listening, Reading and Writing. There are individual Maps for French, German and Spanish although the skill strands are the same. We also provide a grammar Scale which is language-specific. GCSE (9-1) indicative grades We have mapped the 12 Steps in the Progression Scale to GCSE (9-1) indicative grades to make it simpler for you to accumulate the evidence to formulate your own grade predictions.* Assessments and markbooks We have mapped our KS3 assessments to the Pearson MFL Progression Scale so that they report in steps. The assessments for our new GCSE courses will also be linked to the Pearson Progression Scale. These assessment materials are available as part of the ActiveLearn Digital Service and are also sold separately as downloadable Assessment Packs.
