Universities of Applied Sciences The Finnish higher education system consists of two complementary sectors: Universities of Applied Sciences (24) Universities (15) Universities of applied sciences studies are a practical-oriented alternative to university education providing students with excellent professional skills - theoretical knowledge combined with career competence. The extent of degree studies is generally 210 240 credits (ECTS), which means 3.5-4 years of full time study. In line with the KAMK 24 vision, KAMK will be Finland s smartest university. The updated vision and activities based on current phenomena deepen the most proactive university of applied sciences operational model introduced in the KAMK 20 strategy. With the KAMK 24 strategy KAMK Activities are directed by one profile smart solutions - which cuts through all KAMK activities. Research, Development & Innovation RDI activity supports the needs of working life and regional development and serves education in all competence areas at KAMK. The objective of the RDI is the transfer of technology, knowledge and knowhow within the Kainuu region and also in other regions. KAMK s subject experts regularly collaborate with industry and other universities and educational institutions to deliver commercially relevant RDI projects which focus on immediate objectives and future opportunities. Projects have wide networks consisting a variety of organizations from all over Finland and also from abroad. Dynamic networks offer a fruitful platform for the further collaborative development of common issues and ideas. KAMK carries out around 40 projects per year with an annual budget of ca. 3.5 4 million. 11

Double Degree Programmes lead to two degree certificates on the same educational level General Principles All the higher education institutions participating in the double degree programme should be officially recognized or accredited by the appropriate authorities in their countries. The institution conferring the degree is responsible for assuring the quality of the degree and for ensuring that the degree fulfills all set criteria set for it. All double degree students complete a significant part of their degree studies at a foreign partner university. Studies completed at a foreign partner university are fully recognized by the student's home university. Studies on the Double Degree Programme generally consist of the following: 60 ECTS of courses at KAMK (one academic year) Practical training, 30 ECTS (5 months) Thesis and maturity test, 15 ECTS After successful completion of the double degree studies, KAMK will grant the students a Bachelor s degree. 30.3.2017 20
