: Course Developing future laboratory leaders with a management course created by the diagnostics industry.

Page one - Lancet Laboratories enrolled staff in the Laboratory Management in Practice course. 92% Laboratory Management In Practice Approval Rating I have recommended the Laboratory Management in Practice course internally already. It should be rolled out to other junior managers to allow us to groom future leaders for the laboratory. - Vasu Gounden - Autolab Manager, Lancet Laboratories. Manages 42 staff and has held this position for over 10 years. Lancet is one of the largest private pathology providers on the African continent. The group relies on its laboratory managers to be capable and confident in their execution, yet they often find that people in a management role find the position intimidating or even prefer to step down from it. We required a training course that would address the challenge of equipping laboratory managers with the right skills and ensure that we have people in our ranks willing and able to be effective managers.

Page two - Experience Lancet s course experience Lancet enrolled staff in the LTS Laboratory Management in Practice course, which is developed and facilitated by experienced laboratory professionals. The feedback from the Lancet team was that the course was highly relevant to the industry. They felt the course was worthwhile and effective in developing confident laboratory managers. Participants also said the course would provide immediate and long term value to the laboratory. A course that is relevant to the laboratory The course covers all facets of management, in the unique laboratory context. The content was in fact very relevant for our team's needs and well-tailored in general to our sector. It has been developed by experienced laboratory specialists. A course that develops confident laboratory managers Lancet s experience of Laboratory Management in Practice Olivia was very engaging and the way her case studies were delivered provided particular value to our team. A course that results in immediate and long term value The course was also suitably future orientated to answer the concern of relevance in the longer term. Case studies and activities are tailored to the laboratory s unique needs. Laboratory-specific case studies put management into practice. Course activities are done with peers in a classroom setting. Facilitation and support provided by highly experience laboratory professionals. The course encourages real world application from the first day. Blended learning (classroom and online) allows for less time spent off the job and immediate application of new skills. The content and approach is futureproof, with an acute understanding of the rapidly changing laboratory context globally.

Page three - Results Results from the course Central to Lancet s return on investment was proactive development of laboratory managers that are able and significantly more confident and willing to take on the task of management. The course delivered a group of managers who now: Have a big-picture understanding of how to manage laboratory resources, ensuring that quality, turnaround time and cost management targets are met. Are engaged in the current needs of the laboratory and invested in their own career progression. Are self-assured and motivated to be part of the laboratory s group of future leaders. What graduates say about the course The training material was very relevant to work within the laboratory environment. The literature and training was valid for my working environment. I was able to work and learn at my own pace. The fact that the facilitator came from a laboratory background and spoke our language was valuable. The course was concise, short and very interactive.
