INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUATE APPLICATION

International Student Application Instructions Rochester Institute of Technology Undergraduate Admissions Office Bausch & Lomb Center, 60 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, NY 14623-5604, USA Telephone: 585-475-6631 Fax: 585-475-7424 Email: admissions@rit.edu Web: http://admissions.rit.edu/ Application Requirements Checklist for all applicants International Student Application A non-refundable application fee of $65, drawn on a prime U.S. bank or international money order in U.S. dollars, is required to cover the cost of processing the application materials. Applications will not be processed until this fee is paid. If you have ever paid an application fee to RIT, please indicate this on your application. An additional fee will not be required. Students whose native language is not English must submit results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or PTE Academic. All admitted students scoring below 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL (or below 6.5 on the IELTS or below 58 on the PTE Academic) will be required to take English language testing upon arrival at RIT. The results of this testing will determine if English instruction for non-native speakers will be required before a student may begin academic courses. If such English instruction is required, there will be an additional cost and the length of time required to complete the degree will increase. Statement of Educational Objectives. In an original 300- to 500-word essay, express your educational objectives, why you would like to study in the United States, and why you would like to study at RIT. Declaration of Financial Support. Please include the following: 1) a letter of support from your sponsor indicating the actual amount available for your support in U.S. dollars; and 2) an original bank statement from a bank representative showing exact dollar amounts available for your financial support. All academic documents (transcripts, mark sheets, degree certificates, diplomas, examination results such as the SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Academic) must be either originals, or copies certified by the issuing academic institution or testing service. Academic documents must be marked with a seal, stamp, or ink signature of an academic official of the institution. RIT will not issue an admission decision unless original or certified documents have been received. RIT will not accept photocopies, faxes, notarized copies, or notarial certificates. Documents required in addition to the application for admission: SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS (FRESHMEN): Official transcripts or mark sheets from all secondary schools attended, and results of any examinations (e.g., IGCSE, AP, IB results, etc.) Official copy of secondary school diploma if available The SAT or ACT examination results are optional, but highly recommended. Those applying for a scholarship must submit SAT or ACT results. Applicants to programs in the School of Art, School of Design, or the School for American Crafts must submit 10 20 pieces of original 2D or 3D artwork, including five examples of drawings from nature. SlideRoom is recommended for portfolio submission (https://rit.slideroom.com). STUDENTS WHO HAVE ALREADY ENROLLED IN A COLLEGE / UNIVERSITY / POLYTECHNIC (TRANSFER STUDENTS): Official transcripts or mark sheets from all post-secondary institutions attended, including A level results. Those who have completed less than one year of full-time college study must also submit official secondary school records. Descriptions of courses taken as found in the college catalogue. These descriptions must be in English. Applicants to programs in the School of Art, School of Design, or the School for American Crafts must submit 10 20 pieces of original 2D or 3D artwork, including at least five drawings made by direct observation. Applicants to programs in the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences who wish to transfer credit for photography courses must submit examples of their abilities through a portfolio. SlideRoom is recommended for portfolio submission (https://rit.slideroom.com). Transfer credit is evaluated by each RIT academic department based on grade received (minimum of C or 2.0 on a 4.0 scale) and applicability of the course to the RIT program of study. Only courses from accredited institutions of higher education will be considered for transfer toward an RIT degree. A level and IB examination results may also be considered for transfer credit. Admissions Procedures An application is considered complete when all the necessary application requirements have been received. You will be notified by mail of the admissions decision within a minimum of eight weeks of completion of the application. If you are offered admission, an I-20 form will accompany the letter of admission if you have demonstrated adequate resources to cover the entire cost of attending RIT for one year. Instructions for obtaining the F-1 visa will also be included. A non-refundable $300 enrollment deposit is required of all admitted students to reserve a place in the entering class. On-campus housing will not be assigned until the deposit has been received.
