Universiti Malaysia Terengganu Postgraduate Fees Regulation

1. Purpose The purpose of these rules and regulations is to outline the procedure, terms and implications to postgraduate students in relation to the post graduate tuition fee at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. 2. Definition University refers to Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT); Student refers to UMT postgraduate student undertaking full and part time course at the University; New Student refers to first semester student in all UMT s postgraduate programmes; Current Student refers to second to final semester student in all UMT s postgraduate programmes; Full Time Student refers to student registering as full time student; Part Time Student refers to student registering as part time student; Local Student refers to student who has Malaysian citizenship / permanent resident status; International Student refers to student who does not have Malaysian citizenship / permanent resident status; Non Graduating Student refers to student from other university / agency undergoing course / research at UMT not for the purpose of obtaining a degree; Sponsored Student refers to student receiving scholarship / sponsorship / loan / financial aid from local or foreign agency scheme; Registration Date refers to the date student registering at the university as set out in the postgraduate academic calendar; Tuition Fee refers to the total charge the student has to pay as set out by the University; Outstanding Tuition Fee refers to study fee or any other outstanding fee that has not been fully paid; Refund refers to the return of certain amount of money to student in accordance to Postgraduate Studies Rules and Regulations; Viva-Voce refers to thesis examination as set out by UMT Postgraduate Studies Rules and Regulations; Deferred Student refers to student who is granted deferred status in accordance to UMT Postgraduate Studies Rules and Regulations; Withdrawn Student refers to student who withdrew from the postgraduate studies programme in accordance to UMT Postgraduate Studies Rules and Regulations; Dropped Status Student refers to student who is granted Dropped Status in accordance to UMT Postgraduate Studies Rules and Regulations; Financial Guarantee refers to document stating financial guarantee of an applicant; 3. Processing Fee All applications to enter the postgraduate studies programmes sent to UMT Postgraduate School are charged a processing fee of RM25.00 for Malaysian applicants and USD25.00 for non-malaysians. 4. Financial Guarantee Non-citizen applicant must present financial guarantee document proving throughout the studies. The document must be verified by the relevant parties. Financial guarantee can be individual financial guarantee or third party financial guarantee. 5. Fee Structure Postgraduate tuition fee structure that has been outlined by the university authorities are as follows:- a. Studies Fee (Research Structure) - (Citizen and Non-Citizen) i. Non-Recurring Fees 1. Registration Fee (Paid in first semester) 2. Thesis Examination Fee 3. Thesis Re-Eamination Fee 4. Graduation Fee 5. Alumni Fee 2

ii. Recurring Fees (Paid in every semester) 1. Tuition Fee 2. Service Fee 3. Co-curriculum Fee 4. Welfare Fee 5. Health Service Fee 6. Library Fee 7. International Student Fee (For non-citizen) 8. Students Club Fee b.. Studies Fee (Coursework Structure) - (Citizen and Non-Citizen) i. Non-Recurring Fees 1. Registration Fee (Paid in first semester) 2. Graduation Fee 3. Alumni Fee ii. Recurring Fees (Paid in every semester) 1. Tuition Fee a. RM 180.00 s for Master of Management Intergrated Coastal Zone Programme b. RM 250.00 s for Master of Science Aquaculture Programme 2. Service Fee 3. Co-curriculum Fee 4. Welfare Fee 5. Health Service Fee 6. Library Fee 7. International Student Fee (For non-citizen) 8. Students Club Fee (Details for studies fees please refer to Table 5 and 5 (b)) 6. Non-Graduating Student Tuition Fee The student s tuition fee is subject to agreement with other university / third party. 7. Tuition Fee Payment Procedure a. Self- Funded Student i. New Student 1. Paying the tuition fees outlined by the university authority before/during registration; ii. Continuing Student 1. Paying the tuition fees that has been outlined within one month after the registration date; 2. The student will not be allowed to register if he/she has outstanding fees due; 3. Students who registered late will be imposed with penalty at the following rates: a. RM10.00 on the first day after the end of the grace period; b. RM5.00 on subsequent days (maximum 2 weeks); 3

b. Sponsored Student 1. Student is allowed to register without paying the tuition fees provided he/she could furnish a financial guarantee / sponsorship letter; 2. Student is required to pay the balance of the tuition fee not covered by his/her sponsor; 3. Student whose tuition fees sponsorship has ended need to pay his/her fee during registration; 8. Tuition Fee Refund The procedure of refunding back tuition fee to new student or continuing student is subjected to rules/procedures outlined by UMT; please refer to Table 6. 9. Thesis Examination Fee a. Thesis Examination Fee is as follows: i. Master Studies : RM500.00 ii. Ph.D Studies : RM 1,000.00 b. The fee needs to be settled the latest during the submission of thesis for thesis examination; c. Student who re-viva needs to pay Thesis Examination Fee again; d. Student needs to settle all outstanding studies fees before being allowed to pay Thesis Examination Fee; 10. Tuition Fee after Submission of Thesis for Examination (Viva Voce) a. Student who submits thesis (verified) for examination during Current Semester or within two weeks from the registration date of the Next Semester, is exempted from paying tuition fee for the next semester until the result of the examination (Viva Voce); b. Student is required to pay Health Service and Welfare Fees 11. Tuition Fee after Examination a. Student who receives result Accepted with Minor Modification is exempted from paying the tuition fee for the allowed duration to correct the thesis; b. Student who receives result Major Correction (With or without Re-Viva) needs to pay the tuition fee in full if he/she overlaps the Current Semester; 12. Honorarium Payment to Independent Examiner (Thesis) The rate for honorarium to Independent Examiner (Thesis) of a postgraduate student is RM600.00 for PhD programme and RM400.00 for Master Degree programme. 13. Appeal Process Fee a. A fee of RM50.00 is imposed on all cases; i. Appeal for re-admission; ii. Appeal for Examination Result; 14. Health Service Cost a. Student who is referred by the University Health Centre for treatment at government hospital will receive coverage as set out by the university s authority; b. This facility is subjected to terms under UMT Students Health Scheme in effect 4

15. Tuition Fee for Disciplinary Case Student who is imposed a disciplinary sentence either being terminated or suspended from his/her studies will be imposed the full fee for the semester when the punishment takes effect or sentenced. 16. Implication of Failure to Settle Outstanding Fee a. Student who fails to pay his/her outstanding fee may be facing one or more of the following actions: i. Barred from any examination / thesis examination related matters; ii. Barred from receiving examination result; iii. Barred from registering for next semester; iv. Barred from receiving transcript, scroll or taking part in the convocation ceremony. 17. Tuition Fee for Confirmed UMT Employees Studies Fee for qualified UMT employee is set out in Table 7 18. Authority 18. Authority a. Authority to defer or giving relaxation from paying tuition fee is in the hands of the Dean of the UMT Postgraduate School. b. Authority to determine the academic status of student including to bar student from registering, sitting for examination and graduating is within the UMT Postgraduate Studies Committee; c. Authority in relation to College Fee, Student Housing is in the hands of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Student Affairs and Alumni (TNC (HEPA)) or any Officers authorised by the TNC (HEPA). d. Authority in relation to confirmation of student s health is within the UMT Students Health Centre. 5
