Dear Parents / Guardians and Students: Welcome Back from the RPMSPTA! Hello and welcome back, my name is Amy Gearhart and I will serve as your PTA President for the 2007-2008 school year. My involvement with the RPMSPTA the past two years and the tremendous amount of support and assistance from the staff at Rosa Parks, our current and past PTA Executive Board and a number of Committee Chairs, has given me confidence that this will be another successful year at Rosa Parks Middle School. With the help and support of our community, I am ready to take on this school year with an amazing about of enthusiasm. However, enthusiasm alone cannot accomplish all the things that the PTA will provide your children and their school. There is no PTA without Parents. Simply put, we need more parent involvement. As of this mailing, both of the 6 th Grade Vice-Presidents positions remain vacant. Many of our current programs and events lack Committee Chairs and members. Additionally, we have some great new ideas for this school year that will require your support in order to make them happen. Some of these new ideas include: Themed Dances, International Night & Art Show and additional after school activities and clubs. These will not happen without our parents shared assistance and support. If you are interested in learning more about any of our programs and events scheduled for this year (or wish to share your own ideas), please feel free to email me or attend our PTA meeting on Tuesday, August 21 st (details on the Yahoo! Bulletin Board). I promise this will be a no pressure information and planning meeting only. If you are unable to join us on the 21 st, please visit us during Back To School Night or before any of our monthly PTA meetings during our Open Forum hour from 6:00-7:00p.m. I am looking forward to a very successful school year for all students, parents, teachers and staff. Please feel free to send me an email with any questions, thoughts, concerns or ideas. I look forward to hearing from and meeting with all our great parents. Please remember to visit the PTA website at www.rpmspta.org and register for Yahoo! Group. Both of these sites will provide you up to date information regarding all the many things going on at RPMS. Sincerely: Amy Gearhart 2007-2008 PTA President

Rosa Parks Middle School PTA 19200 Olney Mill Road Olney, MD 20832 www.rpmspta.org The Rosa Parks Parent Teacher Association welcomes you to the 2007-2008 school year. We are very excited about some new programs and events that we hope will make your Rosa Parks experience a positive and successful one in the coming year. Themed dances, International Night & Art Show, additional after-school activities, Stakeholders Picnic and the return of Shop Till You Drop are just a few of the events we are working on for this school year. Keeping you informed! Be sure to visit the PTA website at www.rpmspta.org. Not only will you be able to complete all your PTA forms, but this is also a wonderful resource for staying on top of all the events and issues at RPMS. Directory information can be submitted on the website again this year. You can also make your PTA contributions and pay your membership dues online using Pay Pal! It doesn t get much easier than that! The PTA also maintains the yahoo! group rpmspta bulletin board which provides up-to-date information of school related notices and general announcements. You must sign up to receive email announcements of posted info and can also visit the site to view the files, links, calendar and database features. Log on and register through the yahoo link at www.rpmspta.org to find everything you need to know about RPMS! We need your help! Please join the Rosa Parks PTA at www.rpmspta.org today! We are counting on you to join the PTA! Join concerned parents and faculty members working together to share ideas and information about school issues and community affairs. Individual membership is $22.00 per year, which includes a copy of the Rosa Parks Directory and one vote on issues raised during PTA meetings. *Both parents are encouraged to join: a second membership (vote) is an additional $5.00 for a total of $27.00. Paid PTA members will receive one directory per single or double membership. Our Direct Appeal Campaign replaces several different fundraisers with a one time family contribution. Over the years parents have found it to be an efficient and popular way of raising the funds we need to operate the various programs and responsibilities of your PTA. We ask the each family to give a one time tax-deductible donation of $50.00 to the RPMS PTA. We suggest a $50.00 contribution for each family, but will greatly appreciate whatever amount a family can afford to give. Your membership and contribution are very important to enhancing all of our children s experience at Rosa Parks. Funds from last year s campaign provided our school with, among other things: Student Awards and Incentives Funding for the homework club Earth Day & Cultural Arts Programs School Beautification Program Support for the Sherwood Scholarship Fund Media Center Support Staff Appreciation and Team Support Student Assistance Programs

We need your help! Please join the Rosa Parks PTA at www.rpmspta.org today! We need more than your membership dues in order to remain an effective PTA. We need your input and help, too! We welcome you to our monthly PTA meeting on the second Tuesday of each month. This year we will have a new onehour Open Forum session beginning at 6:00 p.m in the RPMS Media Center. This is a great opportunity for parents to get together with the PTA Executive Board and committee chairs to discuss ideas, concerns and upcoming events. The regular PTA meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. All parents that attend the Open Forum are welcome to stay for the PTA meeting, but attendance is not required.
