Career & College Readiness Presentation Class of 2021

Job Availability The Reality of Today s Job Market Let s get real about your future! Several years ago, many job applicants were able to find decent paying jobs that didn t necessarily require a college degree. Today, however, many of these jobs no longer exist either because they have been replaced by modern technology or the position requires one to have a college degree. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 90 percent of the fastest-growing jobs of the future will require some post-high school education or training. Education Matters In 2007, the US Census Bureau reported that the annual median income of workers without college degrees was only $32,500. Those with bachelor s degrees earned $42,000, and those with master s degrees earned $63,000+.

Average work-life earnings by education level There is correlation between education and earnings!

The Importance of Your Freshman Year 93% of Pickerington High School North students report that they plan to go to college If you are in that 93% you need to begin planning for that now! As the college admissions process continues to get more and more competitive, the responsibility lies with YOU to be as prepared as possible. The Class of 2017 at PHS North last year: 81% of our students applied and were accepted to at least one college and planned to attend. 12% applied and were accepted and planned to attend a 2-year college or technical school. 04% planned to enter the military after graduation. 01% planned to go directly to work after graduation. 02% indicated they were undecided as to their plans for after graduation. 100% of PHS North students will be ready for college and/or a career if you begin preparing now!!!

Preparing for a Career/College 101 What You Can (And SHOULD) Be Doing Right Now! 1. Take a rigorous high school curriculum and grades matter! You begin building your high school transcript during your freshman year of high school, and your cumulative high school GPA is built by combining your grades from all four years of high school. The higher your grades/ the higher your ACT score - the more opportunity you will have to earn scholarships to help pay for college! Take challenging courses to prepare you for college/career. Find the right balance of the most rigorous classes you can handle while maintaining an above average grade point average (3.0 or higher) Everyone is different- find the balance that works for you! If you are willing to do the work and put in the time, we believe you can succeed in Honors or AP or College Credit Plus courses!
