European Commission has put much effort and funds to European projects connected with education of future managers. Those funds enabled to alter competence of working managers to changing construction industry. Article presents how EU funds influence construction studies and managerial competence at Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at one of the biggest Universities in Poland Poznan University of Technology. Results of two finished EU Programs are presented, first connected with launching Construction Technology Management, a new course on 2nd cycle studies, and second related to preparation of postgraduate MBA studies in construction, project focused on the joint creation of study and later its implementation within project consortium. In addition, two projects at the stage of application are described. Article reveals how accomplished projects influenced faculty, university, involved workers and graduates of new course conducted in foreign language After presented discussion authors came to the conclusions that programs implemented at Poznan University of Technology, funded by the European Union, helped university to increase offer for current and future students. In addition, these projects, aimed at strengthening cooperation with the industry and helped graduates finding jobs. This provided unique benefits for people who had opportunity to participate in those projects. As another benefit was expanding teaching offer with an MBA studies in the field of construction, in consequence the potential of the didactic units increased significantly. In addition, employees of the institute and the faculty involved in preparation and implementation of those projects, had the opportunity to make new contacts in Europe and worldwide, which positively affected potential of research and teaching, creating new opportunities for development and joint projects. 2016 The Authors. Expenditures allotted to R&D as percentage of GDP in Poland increased greatly from 2006 to 2014. The paste of increase in investment in this field is substantially higher than EU average (Fig.1.). Nevertheless, it is still much lower than most countries in European Union. There is a need for another than national source of funds. Big source of financial help for education and R&D comes from EU funds. Due to increasing interest and better knowledge about rules of applying for EU funds, a rise in their usage can be observed in Poland. The main goal of Polish institution is to overcome formal difficulties connected with application process [1] Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Poznan University of Technology had a chance to take part in a project lead by Warsaw University of Technology. Thanks to benefits of having more experienced partner in its first project, PUT was encouraged to apply for another projects giving itself a chance to rise quality of education. Level of expenditure in research rises slowly but steadily. Mechanism of including new partners in development of sponsored projects may positively result in a chance of accessing funds to new beneficiaries. Fig. 1. Educational projects at Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Poznan University of Technology In years 2013-2015 two projects were conducted at FCEE at PUT aimed at education. In 2015 and at the beginning of 2016 another two applications for other EU funds were submitted to the Polish National Agency for Education. All four projects are directly connected with education of future Managers and have great influence on the University and the Faculty. Brief descriptions of each of them are presented below. 2.1. MBA [3] The aim of the project was to prepare courses, for purpose of launching postgraduate MBA studies in Construction Management for engineers and construction managers across Europe. Project was a continuation of actions taken in previous years, based on results of projects LDV TOI CLOEMC I [4], II [5] and Leonardo PL/06/B/F/PP/174-014, 2009-1-PL1-LEO05-05016 [6]. The program was implemented in cooperation with the following centers: Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering (WUT) Poland project coordinator; Valencia Polytechnic University (PUV) Spain; Vilnius Gedyminas Technical University (VGTU) Lithuania; Poznan University of Technology (PUT) Poland; Polish Association of Building Managers (PSMB) Poland; University of Minho (UMinho) Portugal; The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) - United Kingdom. The main tasks carried out in the project are shown in figure 2.

The program being a part of a larger undertaking [7] carried out at the FCEE is related to creation of a new master studies in Construction Technology Management, which is conducted entirely in English. Course is an alternative to the existing English language studies at the faculty - master in Structural Engineering, focused on the training of future masters of engineering with a specialization in construction design, which was established as part of the Engineer Era project [8]. Main tasks carried out in this project are presented in figure 3. Fig. 3. The main tasks carried out in Master in Construction Technology Management. Program of studies, adopted by the council of the FCEE in December 2013, has received positive reviews by independent experts, in the field of science and higher education that audited a new program of studies [9]. 2.3. DUN application phase [10] The project includes conducting in the years 2016-2017 a series of measures aimed at disseminating knowledge, establishing an international cooperation and creating a group of industry-research collaboration, all above in the field of flexible management in sustainable construction. The variety of scheduled tasks and methods of dissemination expertise will enable to reach different target groups - specialists and scholars interested in the subject, representatives of the construction industry, as well as students and schoolchildren. The initiative includes organization of four tasks such as a workshop, a conference with a workshop and two editions of university year (summer University). Projects greatest focus is put on conducting a series of meetings in schools and universities and presentations at festivals, conferences, trade fairs that in result will popularize engineering sciences. 2.4. E+ Professional Competence Development for Construction Management application phase [11] The proposed project responds to the needs of construction market and is intended for engineers and construction managers, at various stages of professional development, interested in raising their qualifications in the field of construction management by attending short specialist courses. The main objective of the project is to prepare a plan for teaching courses, developing training materials also located on the Moodle platform and finding the right system to assess competence acquired during the course. These objectives will respond to the real needs of the construction

All tasks will be carried out by five European organizations: Poznan University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology, Technische Universitaet Dresden, Fraunhofer Italia Scarl Research - Institute of Research, The Polish Association of Building Managers. The project consists of the tasks presented in figure 4. Fig. 4. The main tasks carried out in E+ project. Project was submitted for evaluation at 31st of March 2016 and results are expected during 2016th holiday season. 3. Benefits on implementing new programs One of the main reasons motivating to apply for EU funds and execute projects, especially the one about master CTM studies, was realization Ministry of Education strategic target on internationalization of studies in order to acquire students from out of EU due to population decline. This action resulted positively not only in fulfilling strategic target but also having influence and impact at 3 different levels: university, faculty, and students. For the purpose of this study a comparison was prepared in a form of a table (table 1) presenting the most important aspects of influence in mentioned fields. From the comparison one of the most important issue regarding University, except from starting new cooperation with other universities, is adopting to the changing requirements of students. Nowadays we can observe situation when young people are more demanding in case of their education. EU funds by donating Universities allow to adapt for this needs. One of the factors that has to be mentioned is interest in studies conducted in English (fig. 5). Fig. 5. Number of applicants and accepted for English-speaking courses at FCEE [12].

In January 2016, 195 people were interested in studying Civil Engineering courses in English Language. Faculty tries to meet the requirements and is opening new courses, with the help of EU funds. University Faculty Students and graduates acquiring students from out of EU, development of the university, promotion in the world, increase of awareness about market needs, developing training program to educate specialists in a particular field, interesting topics classes, getting to know new partners, establishing cooperation with entities of similar profiles, closer cooperation with universities in the EU and around the world, strengthening educational potential, increase recognition, through promotional activities, increase the attractiveness of universities from the point of view of a prospective student updating curriculum to recent demands, performing research on modern fields of study, adopting to the changing requirements of students. increasing labor mobility (exchange), enabling possibility of carrying out joint research, preparation interesting and attractive courses for students, increase the level of teaching at the faculty, enlarging studies offer by opening new directions (including in foreign languages), attracting foreign students, cooperation with industry financial benefits. study subjects really needed in the labor market, the opportunity to participate in paid internships, analysis of the real problems by working closely with industry, possibility of studying in a foreign language, increase cultural awareness by associating with students from abroad, increase the mobility of students (exchange, Erasmus +), possibility of participation in classes conducted by specialists from all over World (Live -Stream), a greater chance of getting a well-paid job (100% of graduates have jobs). One of the most important issue for the Faculty are financial benefits, but not connected with the EU funds, but with the grant for the amount of students. The more students studying at the faculty, the more money faculty receives for conducting it. With the help of EU funds, it is possible to open new courses and attract more people not only from Poland, but from the whole world. Currently at the faculty over 30 persons are studying from all over the world. For the student the most important aspect, of those showed in table 1, is finding good job after studies. Young people choose such a field of study that will prepare them best for their future occupation. In 2014, with help of EUfunds, a new course Construction Technology Management (CTM) was opened at the FCEE. First students of CTM graduated in 2015. 100% of them had job at the moment of finishing studies. Thanks to this score, team responsible for developing CTM course had the best confirmation that creation of interesting studies, in cooperation with industry is worth doing and reaches expectations of employers. 4. Conclusions Participation of EU funds in development of new projects in education may contribute to a success in modernization of curriculum. Presented research on the influence of EU funds at Faculty, University and Students (graduates) led to the following conclusions. EU Funds helped in adjusting Faculty s offer to recent student s requirements. New courses, in particular conducted in English, encouraged new students from out of EU to learn engineering sciences. Curriculum adjusted to market demands results in higher percentage of graduates finding job just after studies (in this case 100%). Educational potential of the University has risen. Positive results of well prepared and developed project encourage to apply for more support in order to achieve higher level of education.

Faculty development encouraged employment of qualified staff members. Generally described benefits from EU funds to education at PUT do not cover all aspects of this subject. Authors plan to investigate the area of needed competence of construction managers and its link to the education programs in EU.
