Educating the Industry Meetings & Events Australia has launched a new online Diploma of Event Management that enables students to study at their own pace and in their own time. Course Design The Diploma course has been designed to give students flexibility to study. Students can either register for the full Diploma course or pick and choose from a range of Units of Competency that will assist with gaining a position in the events industry or provide additional education to improve their event management skills. The Diploma of Event Management consists of twenty Units of Competency that have been identified by the industry as essential skills required to deliver successful events. The course has been developed by experienced event managers and covers critical topics that will give students a valuable qualification. The events industry is dynamic and cyclical; this course is designed to support those who are working in events the flexibility to study around their work commitments. Students will be supported by a qualified Trainer who will guide and assist you in completing the course. The course has been developed by experienced event managers and covers critical topics. Workshops Meetings & Events Australia will present six workshops that are designed to provide students with practical information on the challenges and triumphs of managing events that will be delivered by industry experts. These workshops will be held approximately every 10 weeks in Sydney, however they will available for all students to attend via a link to their own desktops. The presentations will also be recorded for future reference by students to access them in completing their Diploma. The cost to attend or access to these workshops is included in the full Diploma course. The two day workshops will also be available to anyone in the events industry who is looking to update and improve their skills. Details of how to attend the workshops will be available on the Meetings & Events Australia website and notices will be sent to the industry. Meetings & Events Australia will be partnering with the event industry and other event training organisations to deliver a broad workshop program. Study What You Want - Access to individual Units of Competency Students are not required to undertake the full Diploma course. Meetings & Events Australia has created the program to enable students to have access to each of the individual Units online. You have the flexibility to study the Units that best support your career goals. Simply register and pay for the Units you wish to study. The list of the units of competency is set out on page 6. Internships Meetings & Events Australia is well positioned to place students into internships to support their learning and to potentially secure future employment within the events industry. It has membership across all sectors of the events industry throughout Australia. 2

Event Career Path This Diploma Couse is part of the events career path that Meetings & Events Australia has created to educate and upskill event professionals. The career path involves the following: Diploma of Event Management This Diploma course is designed to educate and upskill those who wish to gain practical experience in the Australian events industry. It provides students with access to industry experts and delivers a learning experience that will train them for a career in event management. Ungerboeck Young Professionals Scholarships Meetings & Events Australia offers an annual scholarship to young event professionals in every state and territory across Australia. This scholarship provides scholarship winners with an opportunity to attend the Meetings & Events Australia Annual National Conference. MEA Mentor Program Meetings & Events Australia manages an annual and national Mentor Program. The goal of the program is to up-skill industry professionals to improve the industry s overall competitiveness on the domestic and international stage. The program offers Mentees an opportunity to connect with an experienced matched industry representative to discuss their career, goals and future. MEA Accreditation Program The Meetings & Events Australia Accreditation Program is specifically designed to recognise and promote experienced event managers. To gain this recognition an event manager must demonstrate that they have the experience and practical skills to deliver events at a very high standard. This program ensures that the event industry in Australia: remains focused on raising the standards of its practice enhances the reputation of the industry and increase consumer confidence when dealing with industry professionals enforces the Industry s Code of Conduct better informs the marketplace by differentiating individuals on the basis of a pre-determined criteria which has been agreed by the sector reinforces the value of the industry as one that is professional with sufficient maturity to self-regulate 3

The Diploma Duration of the Diploma Recommended Self-Paced Hours: 10 hours per week for 60 weeks On-the-job / Work Based Students will be currently working in the industry and where possible will use their workplace to plan and conduct assessment activities and complete required projects. 2 days per week (7 hours per day) for 60 weeks The training also includes: Regular coaching calls from the qualified Trainer/Assessor Access to MEA Professional Development Program Workshop Program: Six (6) workshops, of two (2) days length each. Conducted over a 60-week period. The workshops can be attended in person or accessed online. Meetings & Events Australia will be partnering with the event industry and other training organisations to deliver a broad and complete workshop program. Selection Criteria To register for this online course, students must meet the following criteria: Digital Devices Students must provide their own digital device for the training workshops, and be required to access the internet to complete online activities Basic event industry knowledge Students must be currently employed in the event management industry with a minimum of 1-year experience and have some experience in working in event management. Reading and Writing Students must be able to read, comprehend and write a range of texts within a variety of contexts. Oral Communication Students must be able to use and respond to spoken language including some unfamiliar material within a variety of contexts. Numeracy and mathematics Students must be able to recognise and use a variety of conventions and symbolism of formal mathematics. Students must be over the age of 18 years Recognition of Prior Learning All individual students are offered the opportunity to apply for RPL, please enquire at MEA for the procedure on how to apply. Mode of Assessment Assessments will be conducted via self-paced activities using an online platform. Students will also be asked to 4

use their current work places where possible, to plan and conduct assessment activities, and have their Supervisor complete third-party reports. Certificate of Competency and Diploma All students will receive a Certificate of Competency once they have successfully completed and have been assessed competent in each specific Unit of Competency in the Diploma course. On successful completion of the twenty Course Units, students will be issued with the qualification SIT50316 Diploma of Event Management. Course Fees Full Diploma: MEA Member: $6,000, Non MEA member: $6,500 Units of Competency: MEA Member: $350 per unit, Non MEA member: $400 per unit Payment Plan Full Diploma Deposit to be paid prior to course commencement: $1,500 Payment Options: Option A: $6,000 or $6,500 full payment* Option B: $450 or $500 per month for 10 months** *Full payment can only be made if payment is being made by a company/organisation. **Students will be invoiced monthly and all course fees must be paid on time to ensure continued access to the online learning tool. Units of Competency Payment for the Units of Competency must be paid in full prior to receiving access to the online learning tool. Administrative Fees A non-refundable Administration Fee of $150 is payable for both courses with the deposit. This is to cover the administrative costs to set up the student account and is included in the deposit. MEA Membership All students who enrol in the full Diploma course will receive a 12 month individual membership subscription to Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) if they or their organisation are not already members. This membership entitles students to attend MEA Professional Development events in their State or Territory at student rates. Membership of MEA also allows Diploma students to attend all networking events and the MEA National Annual Conference at the discounted student member rate. Please note that students who opt to purchase the individual Units of Competency will also be entitled to this annual membership.
