S fter the students have arrived, distribute each student s ndividual est icket. Make sure each student also has a pencil and scratch paper. oday you are going to learn how to answer questions on the computer for the S+ Online Multiple-hoice ssessment. his practice test is for Grade students. lease look at your test ticket and make sure that it has your name on it. aise your hand if you do not have the correct test ticket. rovide assistance to any student raising his or her hand. lease follow my instructions, and do not go on until tell you to do so. You should see a screen that says, Hello, please log in to begin. ype your Login and password exactly as shown on your test ticket. hen, type the ccess ode. ead the est ccess ode from the first page of the Summary est icket. Now click the Log in button. f you see a Warning Security screen, click on the word un. Students will not see the Warning Security screen if their computers were used previously for this application. You should see a Welcome Screen with your name on it. lease raise your hand if you do not see the Welcome Screen or if the name on the Welcome Screen is not yours. ause to make sure the students have proceeded to the Welcome Screen, as shown below. G S his screen shows that the practice test is untimed and that there are two sample questions. Look at the upper left-hand corner of your screen. t shows that these are Sample Questions and this is Question 1 of 2. You will also see three icons. n icon is a picture that represents a special tool you can click on while taking the practice test. will discuss those shortly. he first sample question can be found just under the three icons in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. Now look at the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. here are boxes numbered 1 and 2. hese numbers represent the two sample questions you will complete. he words YOU H always appear above the box of the question you are answering. S Look at Question 1. t says Look at the dark bowl in the box. Find the bowl that is different from the dark bowl in the box. n the bottom right-hand corner, you see the words NO NSW SL because you have not selected an answer yet. o select an answer, you will click on the letter in a circle under the correct answer. lease click on the letter B in the circle under the second bowl. he letter B is replaced with a blue bubble to show that you have selected it. t the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, it shows YOU NSW S: B. lso, a blue bubble now appears above the first numbered box at the bottom of the page to show that you have selected an answer. o change your answer, you can click on another letter. lick on the letter. he message now says YOU NSW S:. lick on answer choices and to see how your answer changes. o mark any question that you would like to review later, click on the words Mark for Later eview in the lower right-hand corner. he numbered box at the bottom of the screen for that question will be shaded yellow. hen, instead of Mark for Later eview, you should see the word Unmark. lick on it and the yellow in the numbered box will disappear. Marking questions is not necessary, but it may help you keep track of questions you want to review later. re there any questions? ause to answer any questions the students might have. Be sure you have selected an answer before you go on to the next question. o move to the next question, click on the Go On button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen or you can click on a numbered box at the bottom of the screen. lick on box 2 at the bottom of the screen. ause to make sure the students have proceeded to Question 2. he words YOU H appear above the box with the 2 in it. t the top of the screen, you will see Question 2 of 2. You will also see three icons in the upper left-hand screen. hese are special tools you may use to help you; however, you do not have to use them. You will find an icon with an X, an icon of a highlighter, and an icon of an eraser. Now we will practice using each one of these special tools. he first icon contains a circle and a red X. t is called the option eliminator tool because you can use it to remove incorrect answers. Now read the question silently as read aloud. How many sides does a square have? Let s remove incorrect answers. lick on the red X icon. he background of the icon will change from gray to blue. hen click on the circle for answer choice. You should see a red X over the circle. You can do this for answer choices B and to see how it works. Before you can select an answer, you must turn off the option eliminator tool. urn off the option eliminator by clicking on that icon. When the option eliminator is turned off, you can still click on an answer choice you eliminated if you want to select that answer. re there any questions? ause to answer any questions the students might have. he second tool is a highlighter. lick on the highlighter icon. Your mouse pointer should now look like a highlighter. o highlight an area, click at the top left corner of the first word you want to highlight and drag the mouse over the bottom right corner of the last word you want to highlight. ractice highlighting some words in the item. You can use the eraser tool to remove a red X over an answer choice that you have removed. You can also use the eraser tool to remove highlights that you have added to text. lick on the eraser icon. o erase a red X, click on the X, and it will disappear. o remove highlights, click on the highlighted areas of the text, and the highlights will disappear. When you don t want to erase anymore, click on the eraser icon again to turn off the eraser tool. ractice with these tools while walk around the room. lease let me know if you have any questions. heck to make sure that the students understand how to use the tools. Help the students if necessary. Question 2 is the last question of Sample Questions. nswer Question 2. hen, click on Finish est in the lower right-hand corner. When the student reaches the end of the Sample Questions (or other section of the test), a screen like the example on the next page shows the student (and proctor) how many questions the student attempted, and how many were left unanswered. his is the one place to verify at a glance how many questions the student attempted. he only other way is to look at the numbered boxes at the bottom of the test to see whether there are circles over them indicating that the questions have been answered. S he question at the top of this screen asks, Have you finished Sample Questions? f the student clicks No, go back to the test, he or she can go back and answer any unanswered questions or return to any questions marked for review, and complete the test. f the student clicks Yes, have finished, the test will be closed. he student will be presented with the login screen for the next test section of the practice test. Now, let s move on to Session 1 of the practice test. Make sure that 0 questions are left before you click Yes, have finished. lick on the Yes, have finished button. his will take you back to the Welcome Screen. Now click on the ontinue button. ause to make sure the students have the first question on their screens, as shown below. t the top of the screen you will see Session 1 Question 1 of 2. For Question 1 and Question 2, we will practice using the ruler tool. he ruler can be found in the upper lefthand corner. lick on the ruler icon and the ruler will appear. his is an inches ruler. You will use the inches ruler for Question 1 and the centimeter ruler for Question 2. You can move the ruler around in different ways to help you work a problem. lick on the blue bar above the word nches, hold down the mouse button, and drag the ruler to move it in any direction. Now look at the circles and arrowheads on the ends of the ruler. ach end can be moved in the directions shown by the arrowheads. lick in the circle on the end of the ruler, hold down the mouse button, and drag the ends of the ruler in any of the directions shown on the arrowheads. ractice using the ruler while walk around the room. Be sure you have selected answers for Question 1 and Question 2. Since Question 2 is the last question of Session 1, click on Finish est in the lower right-hand corner. hen click Yes, have finished. his will take you back to the Welcome Screen. Now you will take Session 2 of the practice test. lick on the ontinue button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. G ause to make sure the students have the first question on their screens. t the top of the screen you will see Session 2. S Before you begin reading, please listen as describe the screen. Look at the upper lefthand corner of your screen. t shows that this is Question 1 of 2. he reading passage will appear in the left column, and the questions will appear in the right column. he instructions before a passage will tell you which questions are based on that passage. opyright 2011 by State of ndiana epartment of ducation For this passage, Questions 1 and 2 belong with the passage. t the bottom of the screen, a gray bar connects the two boxes because the two questions are based on the same passage. n the center of the screen where you see the passage, there is a scroll bar. Now scroll down slowly by using your mouse and left-clicking on the down arrow. o scroll quickly, left-click on the scroll bar and hold down the left button on the mouse. hen drag the scroll bar up or down. When reading the passages, always make sure that you scroll down to read the entire passage. Now look at the passage. Notice that there is a footnote for the word spectacular. o read the footnote, click on the footnote number, and the text for the footnote will pop up. lick on the icon for footnote number 1 and read the footnote. hen click on the X in the top right corner of the pop-up to close it. You can also scroll to the bottom of the passage to read each footnote. t the bottom of this passage, you should see the footnote. aise your hand if you do not see the footnote or if you have any questions. ause to answer any questions the students might have. S ead the passage and practice scrolling while walk around the room. When you have finished reading the passage and when you feel comfortable scrolling, read the question and select an answer. Be sure you have selected an answer before you go on to the next question. heck to make sure that the students can scroll down to the bottom of the passage. Help the students if necessary. o go back to a previous screen, click on the Go Back arrow in the lower right-hand corner of the screen or click on a numbered box. Question 2 is the last question of Session 2. Before you click on Finish est, please raise your hand, and will check that you have properly selected and correctly marked your answers. hen you can click on Finish est and Yes, have finished. emember, once you have clicked on the Yes, have finished button, you cannot go back to the test. heck to make sure the students know how to mark their answers. lso, check to make sure the students know how to finish the test.
