Heidelberg, Germany Europe s Heartland Heidelberg is a charming, historic, and studentcentered city which has always been known for its focus on education and learning. After all, Germany s first university was founded here. Not only known for its academic prestige, Heidelberg and the surrounding area is one of the most progressive regions in Europe. Printing, publishing, high-tech, IT, and manufacturing are all important enterprises and for that reason, many international corporations have their headquarters here, many of which you will visit during your excursions. Studying abroad in Heidelberg makes it easy to discover the rest of Europe in your free time and weekends. Paris, London, Barcelona, and Rome, to name a few, are conveniently just a short train ride or flight away. Welcome to the Villa Krehl The European Study Center is housed in a handsome and historical villa nestled in one of Heidelberg s most charming neighborhoods. The student rooms are comfortably furnished and the campus has classrooms, WiFi internet access, a library, computer lab, laundry facilities, a TV room, student kitchen, lounge, and a beautiful inner courtyard. Located in a quiet and safe neighborhood, the grocery store, bakery, and pharmacy are just around the corner. The larger downtown shopping area and historical district is within reasonable walking distance or just a short tram ride away. (Student housing in host families or apartments is also available.) On-site Team From the moment you meet on your arrival day and orientation until the day you leave, the ESC team will be there to support you. Whether they provide guidance and advice, accompany your group on excursions, or just chat with you about traveling tips, they are there to help troubleshoot any potential issues you might have, assist you with daily academic and living needs, and help you adjust to the new culture and surroundings. Internships / Volunteering If you are interested in actively contributing to the community during your semester in Heidelberg, you can opt to add a community engagement or volunteer component to your program. Internships (unpaid) are also available for an additional fee to students who are interested to complement their academic and career goals by gaining practical work experience in an international setting.

Gerard Tyrrell ESC Student Studying abroad in Heidelberg has been one of the best decisions that I ve made and has opened up a new window of opportunity for me. Not only has this experience given me the chance to learn first-hand about a culture other than my own, but the amount of independence and personal growth that I experienced during my time abroad was incredible. I also couldn t have asked for a better place to study abroad. Heidelberg is a beautiful and historic city, and the ESC s charm and friendly staff and make it easy to call home for a semester. Germany itself is also a great country to study in, particularly for anyone with an interest in international business or relations. My experiences in Germany have given me a new passion to possibly work in the international community one day, an option which I never seriously considered until studying abroad. The ESC Difference: Studying abroad is not about us - it is about you! We want you to succeed! Boost your career YOUR Personal Goals YOUR Academic Goals ESC Program YOUR Career Goals Through the integrated International Culture and Career Seminar*, you will receive a goal setting exercise, a resume/cover letter evaluation, a mock interview, and one-on-one support at key stages during your study abroad program from the on-site team and academic director. Most importantly, after you return home, you will be better able to articulate the skills, knowledge, and experience you gained in Heidelberg and distinguish yourself in the job market and in graduate school applications. (*Semester programs only) Cultural Program A wide variety of cultural field trips and company visits are included each semester and are an integral part of the program. The ESC team organizes many additional evening and weekend events throughout the semester and makes every effort to make sure all students are able to participate in all ESC sponsored excursions and social activities. Semester highlight: a 3-day trip to Germany s capital city - Berlin In addition to your classes, you will take part in many cultural and professional excursions throughout your semester, for example: Castle Talks International Symposium Many excursions in Heidelberg and the surrounding region Guided walking tours of cities, castles, cultural sites, and museums Professional visits to companies Frankfurt: e.g. European Central Bank, German Bundesbank, Money Museum of the Deutsche Bundesbank, German Stock Exchange Berlin*: e.g. Guided tour of the Reichstag (German parliament), Berlin Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie, the Jewish Museum, Deutscher Dom Strasbourg:* e.g. EU Parliament, Council of Europe, Court of Human Rights, or Struthof Concentration Camp * Semester program only In-depth tours of the EU Institutions in Strasbourg Guided tour of the Heidelberg Castle and charming historic center Presented at G.I.V.E. - The Global Institute for core Values and Education As an integral part of your semester abroad, you will participate in an international symposium. Over the course of two days, you will interact with other students, take part in panel discussions, and listen to different presentations on interesting topics from European professors, business leaders, politicians, and academics.
