Duty supervision and legal responsibility of the school Supervisory duties Insurance and liability 9. Health care in the school A doctor is employed at the school, which fulfills the tasks listed by the Ministry of Education. 1. General Job and educational goals of the school: The school provides students with the German language, German educational contents and a reality corresponding German image in many aspects as well as the Arabic language and Egyptian curricula according to the guidelines of the Egyptian Ministry of Education. It enables such an encounter with one's own culture and with other peoples and cultures, and leads them accordingly to cosmopolitanism, international understanding, democracy and a sense of peacefulness. The school will allow students to pursue education adequately according to their skills. It, therefore, has the responsibility to provide them with knowledge and skills to lead them to independent judgment and to promote their personal and social development. The school is to educate self-determination in responsibility towards fellow human beings, for the recognition of ethical standards and religious values of tolerance and respect for the convictions of others. The educational mission of the school can only be achieved through the corresponding learning methods and contents and the corresponding educational values. Learning objectives and organizing the lessons depend on the agreements and arrangements taken by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Objective of the school rules: The school can only fulfill its mission, when the school director, the school principle, teachers, students and parents work together trustfully. The application of the school rules should serve this interaction. Special remarks on success, performance measurement, absence control, etc., are set out in separate regulations. 2. Students situation in the school: In order to fulfill the educational mission of the school, it is important that students are given the physical and mental space to help teachers arrange and form the lesson and the normal school day according to their age and abilities. Students rights: Students are given the right of education created for them, by participating in the classroom and by having the option willingly to help the teachers form and organize the lessons and their normal school day. They have the right to, - be informed about their case - Be informed about their standard of performance and to take advice in things related to their academic concerns. - Complain to the ones held responsible at school if their rights have been jeopardized. - Be heard before any disciplinary measures are applied. Students duties: In order to achieve our educational goal and to meet the educational tasks, it is essential that students regularly attend classes and school events. The absence threatens the successful completion of the school year. The students are required to obey their teachers and other authorized persons in the school within the scope of the school rules and regulations set by the teachers and/or school management. In this way, the school will be able to achieve and maintain a school system that assures that rules and regulations are being correctly implemented and at the same time the normal school day is harmonic. 3. Parents and School: Education of students is a shared responsibility between parents and school. This means that both should always be connected with each

other and understand each other so that difficulties, that threaten the academic progress, can be avoided. The school gives gladly pieces of advice to the parents regarding each and every subject and any pedagogical issues, if any. It also provides insight into policies and regulations. Every teacher has a fixed office hour and/or a date can be set by agreement with the parents in order to have the opportunity for a joint discussion. Parents of the pupils who have high risk in failing the academic year are notified first through the midterm certificate and for the second time shortly before the final certificate. During the academic year, two parents meetings are held, where parents get an invitation from the school. At the beginning of the academic year, on the orientation day, parents will be informed about all important aspects for the entire year. Parents should help the school in achieving its mission through working closely with the teachers and the school management and get regularly informed about the son s/daughter s behavioral and educational level. Parents should ensure that their son/daughter fulfills his/her obligation to come to school regularly, on time, and has all the necessary materials and documents and that he/she treats all school properties with utmost care. 4. Admission and Cancellation of students Registration: The registration of the students is done online by the parents or the person in custody. Papers below are needed: Original birth certificate Six personal photos Copy of ID of parents Copy of certificate or statement of parents academic qualifications. Last academic certificate of the student, if available School fees: School fees can be paid in 2 installments. The rates are applied to the following departments Kindergarten Primary School Classes 5-6 Classes 7-8

Classes 9-10 Classes 11-12 10% discount is usually granted for further siblings. The additional funds for activities, books, buses are also to be paid even when the student is absent some time. Should a child leave the school during the year, so the school has the right to claim the full tuition fee. Admission and Cancellation: Play School admissions (Spielgruppe) must be done starting from January till April. The child must be 3 years old on September 1 st of that year in order for his/her application to be accepted. The school management decides to which grade level the child will go through the admission process. When pupils, who seek a German certificate, apply in our school, the rules of the Standing Conference are noted. If a student decides to leave the school, parents must provide a written cancellation. The student then receives a graduation certificate in the end. Dismissal: The student will be dismissed from school if he: - is officially signed off by his parents (written) - is more than 3 weeks absent without any given excuses or 30 separate days. - was excluded due to a disciplinary action - no longer comply with the rules of success and the rules of the Ministry of Education. Upon Parents cancellation request, a dismissal certificate is issued or an academic certificate that states that the student has completed the academic year. 5. School attendance: Lessons and events attendance: It is an obligation to participate in the lessons, which means that the student should be prepared for class, actively participating, performing the tasks and has the necessary learning and working materials. Applying in a school system requires regular attendance. The school management decides on any exceptions.

Absent days: If a student is sick or cannot attend classes or any other obligated school events for any other reason, the parents must notify the school. When he/she comes back to school, a notice signed and written by the parents must be given to the school administration. It must contain the reason and the length of the absence period. In some cases a medical report is necessary. If a student cannot fulfill the oral requirements of a certain subject due to his absent days. He/she will be tested at the end of the semester in order to get an oral grade in his/her certificate. Absence from school and school events: Absence for important events (1 day only) may be approved from the class teacher. The class teacher must be given a written excuse from the parents at least one week in advance. Absent days that last longer than a day must be approved from the school principle. See also Rules of Absence. Absence for longer period, and especially in direct connection with holidays, is possible only in exceptional cases based on a substantiated request. Parents, then, take full responsibility of a possible decline in their son s/daughter s grades. In such cases, together with the student s results, the school can suspend the promotion decision. Further details are explained under the rules and regulations of Academic Promotion. If a student is prevented by unexpected circumstances to return back from his/her vacation, this then should be reported to the school management immediately. If 3 weeks passed after school has begun without any excuse for absence is given, the student will be deregistered from the school. Exemption from Physical Education (PE) A medical certificate must be given if the exemption lasts for more than 14 days. 6. Student s results: It is the teacher s responsibility to take notes on the student s educational achievements. The teacher takes into consideration the rules and regulations adopted by educational conferences and overall standards. In the performance assessment, many oral, written, and practical tests and exercises are implemented. In order to assess a student s performance, all tests and exercises must be practised in the classroom.

Homework: In all subjects, the main work is done in the classroom. As a result of the class work, there is a homework that must be done at home, which serves repetition, reassurance of the information and preparation for the next lesson. The teacher prepares the scope and the difficulty of the homework for the student in a way that the student manages to finish it in a reasonable time frame on his own. The teachers of a certain class determine the amount of the homework they give in order to encourage the student and not to overwhelm him. This is the responsibility of the class teacher. The homework must be checked and discussed during class. In the first grades of Primary school, homework books must be checked from time to time. Promotion: The promotion to the next grade level and the certification procedure are determined by the rules and regulations of the promotion and certificate. 7. Breaking the school rules and regulations and their consequences: The daily school life and the lessons require a certain order which helps to facilitate the educational process. Accordingly, disciplinary measures may be applied if a student violates the legal standards or regulations of the school. Disciplinary measures should only be taken if it is regarding a certain behaviour related to the educational activities or the lesson or for the protection of individuals or things that are involved. It is part of the teacher s job to emphasize to the students the importance of the school agreements and arrangements to help them affirm the order of the school and to act accordingly. Disciplinary measures must be applied together with the educational goal of the school to support the student with strong sense of responsibility. Therefore, they are not to be excluded from the educational duty and the educational responsibility towards each student. Educational measures have priority over disciplinary measures. Their application must be reasonable in relation to the occasion. Before any excessive and rapid deployment of disciplinary measurements, all means of positive influences must be put into

consideration. School provides also help from its psychologists if needed. In some cases, external experts assistance might be required, too. Educational measures may include: 1. Verbal reprimand 2. Detailed discussion with students, parents and possibly also related experts. 3. Special assignments which are suitable for the students to make their misbehaviour insightful. 4. Common binding agreements, for example learning methods with defined time frame and target validation. 5. Class attendance of another class. As disciplinary measures the following may be considered: 1. Note will be taken in the class book/teacher s note book 2. Written reprimand 3. Exclusion of certain events 4. Threats of exclusion from certain classes or certain school events (class trips, etc ). 5. Temporary exclusion from school (max 12 days) 6. Threat of dismissal from school 7. Dismissal from school. Before any of the above mentioned disciplinary measures are implemented (from measurement 4 7) the student and the parent have the right to choose a certain teacher to be present in the discussion. The decision to take a disciplinary measurement: Nr. 1 and 2 Nr. 3 5 Nr. 6 7 concerns the teacher (school management is informed) the class conference with school principle a general conference together with the school director Parents must be notified for all measurements taken, except Nr. 1, and then a written report is attached in the student s folder. Censure and reprimand can be subject to conditions. Collective measurements, and physical punishments, which violate the human dignity, are strictly prohibited.

Threats of dismissal from school occur at very particular and sever violations. For example, continuous major disrespect towards a teacher and other persons involved; injuries, thefts, drug abuse, and vandalism. 8. Duty of supervision and legal responsibility of the school: Duty of supervision: The school is committed to supervise the students during the lessons, breaks, school events, and during a certain period of time before and after class. Supervisors are teachers, staff, and other persons (e.g. bus driver, bus attendant). Students are bound to their instructions. Insurance and legal responsibility: Students are insured and held responsible from the school director against any accidents on the way to school, within the school grounds, or if they participate in any school event. Accidents must be immediately reported to the school administration. The school will not be held responsible for valuables that the student brings with him/her. 9. Health care in the school: The school takes measures to ensure a good health care system: eg. Annual school health examinations, vaccinations, etc... Parents and students have certain school regulations to follow. If a student or one of his/her family members has a contagious disease (e.g. measles, chicken pox, scarlet fever, mumps or jaundice) the school management must be immediately informed. The school takes the necessary measures in accordance with the requirements of the local health authority.
