ELI Programs and Course Descriptions Core courses are required courses in the area of Grammar/Academic Writing/ Academic Reading/Oral Communication. Students must complete all levels of core courses before completing the ELI program. Elective courses are also required each semester. Each student must take at least two elective courses each semester, and must complete at least four electives before moving to Level III. ELI PROGRAMS ASPIRE: Academic Study Preparation through Intensive Readiness English is designed to help non-native speaking students get ready for their prospective degree seeking programs at American universities. Students will be placed at an appropriate level according to their English proficiency determined by an integrated assessment, including the Institute placement test. All students have to successfully complete all courses (6/semester) in order to move up to the next level or to graduate from the ELI program. Prerequisite: Those who graduate from high school with GPA of 2.5 above and are interested in pursuing degrees in American universities can apply for this program. Depending upon the language proficiency level, in order to fulfill the language requirements for full admission to their prospective academic programs, students are required to take at least four (4) core courses (grammar, academic reading, academic writing, and academic speaking) and two (2) electives. Length of program: It ranges from a semester to four semesters depending on the entering English language proficiency level the student demonstrates which is determined by a placement test at the beginning of the program. Dates of offering: This program is offered three times year in the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Tuition: This cost excludes fees required of all SU students and could be increased by 6% every year: o For the spring and fall semesters: $4032/semester with a possible 6% increase every school year; o For the summer semester: $2016 with a 6% increase every 12 months. o Room and Board: $ 4500/semester x 2 (Note: Meals: approximately $100/selfcook/month; $1900/school dining/semester)

Pathway Programs are designed to help international students whose native language is not English get linguistically and academically prepared for their prospective graduate programs offered at SU by taking both ELI courses and prerequisite courses at respective academic departments. Currently, SU graduate programs which offer this pathway program include MA- TESOL, MBA, and MED in Curriculum and Instruction. Prerequisite: The candidates for this program must have already received a bachelor degree from their home institutions with a GPA of 2.7. They are required to take a combination of courses in ELI and their prospective academic areas in the first year of program. Length of program: It ranges from two (2) to three (3) years depending on the students language and academic competence. Dates of offering: This program is offered three times a year in the spring, summer, and fall semesters Tuition: The tuition excluding fees varies based on the student language proficiency level as specified below: o Fulltime ELI: $4032/semester with a possible 6% increase every school year o Bridge ELI: $672x 3=$2016 (ELI) and $689x6 = $4134 (academic) with a total of $ 6150/semester o Room and Board: $ 4500/semester x 2 (Note: Meals: approximately $100/selfcook/month; $1900/school dining/semester) SAYA: Study A Year in American is designed for students from SU overseas partnering institutions to get a year of studying abroad experience on Salisbury University campus. This one-year program consists of instruction in English language and American culture in the SU English Language Institute, which includes the core courses and electives provided by ELI teaching faculty. If the participating students are placed at a higher level of language proficiency, they are allowed to take the bridge program in which they can simultaneously take ELI courses and credit bearing academic courses. After successfully completing the program, the participating students will be awarded a SU-ELI certificate of completion of SAYA and credits from their home institution. Prerequisite: The candidates for this program must have started their academic programs from their home institutions with a GPA of 2.7. They are required to take either full time ELI courses or a combination of courses in ELI and their prospective academic areas in the first year of program. Length of program: It lasts for two academic semesters. Dates of offering: This program is offered three times a year in the spring, summer, and fall semesters Tuition: The tuition excluding fees varies based on the student language proficiency level as specified below with a possible increase of 6% every year: o Fulltime ELI: $4032/semester with a possible 6% increase every school year o Bridge ELI: $672x 3=$2016 (ELI) and $689x6 = $4134 (academic) with a total of $ 6150/semester o Room and Board: $ 4500/semester x 2 (Note: Meals: approximately $100/selfcook/month; $1900/school dining/semester)

LEAP: Language Experience in America Program is designed for students from SU overseas partnering institutions to get a semester long language, cultural, and academic experience at Salisbury University. This semester long program consists of instruction in English language and American culture in the SU English Language Institute, which includes the core courses and electives provided by ELI teaching faculty. After successfully completing the program, the participating students will be awarded a SU-ELI certificate of completion of LEAP and credits from their home institution. Prerequisite: The candidates for this program must have started their academic programs from their home institutions with a GPA of 2.7. They are required to take full time ELI courses. Length of program: It lasts a semester and is open for extension with a formal permission from the home institution. Dates of offering: This program is offered two times a year in the spring and fall semesters Tuition: The tuition excluding fees varies based on the student language proficiency level as specified below with a possible increase of 6% every year: o Fulltime ELI: $4032/semester with a possible 6% increase every school year o Bridge ELI: $672x 3=$2016 (ELI) and $689x6 = $4134 (academic) with a total of $ 6150/semester o Room and Board: $ 4500/semester x 2 (Note: Meals: approximately $100/selfcook/month; $1900/school dining/semester) ISAP: Intensive Study Abroad Program is designed to provide a rich four week long learning experience for students from SU partnering institutions. This program integrates linguistic, cultural, and academic experiences which will offer not only an in-class instruction but also many first-hand experiences in various settings, both academic and social. In addition to the formal classroom instruction, the students will have opportunities to see and experience the American life. As part of the program, the students will also spend weekends for cultural excursions through visiting some of the east-coast cities and resorts, such as Ocean City, Washington DC, New York, and Philadelphia. After successfully completing all required courses and activities, the participants will receive a certificate from SU-ELI and credits from their home institution. Prerequisite: The candidates for this program must have started their academic programs from their home institutions with a GPA of 2.7. They are required to take ELI specially designed courses. Length of program: It lasts for four (4) weeks during the summer. Dates of offering: This program is offered one time in the summer, e.g. Early July through early August. Tuition: The tuition includes morning classroom instruction, afternoon activities, and weekend cultural excursion excluding fees

o Program package: $3650 which includes tuition, teaching materials, activities, in country transportation, cultural excursions to New York, DC, Philadelphia, and Ocean City beach on weekends
