INTRODUCTION The goal of every school community is to help its students to form their personalities and to teach them in the best possible way. The learning of essential human skills, such as self-awareness, self-control, the sense of responsibility as well as the art of listening, the resolution of differences, and cooperation all play a dominant role in the learning process. At the same time, adolescence is a critical stage that offers the opportunity to establish essential emotional habits of civilized behavior in life, and of solidarity with society. Based on this philosophy, the following are internal rules and regulations which are based on Law 682/1977, article 11, par. 1 & 2 and are the result of the collaboration between the Directors and the Gymnasium and Lyceum Faculty. 1. ATTENDANCE It is obvious that both the smooth functioning of the School, as well as any type of danger that may arise, oblige us to be very strict as far as students arrival and departure times are concerned. I) First period classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and students must go directly and without delay to their classrooms. At the beginning of class the attendance monitor makes a note of absent students on the attendance form. In case a school bus is delayed, students go to class and the attendance monitor notes the time of arrival and the bus route number. The Dean s Office then checks and confirms the attendance form. II) A student that arrives at School after the first period may enter the classroom only if accompanied by his/her parent, or he/she brings a note from the parent, to the Dean s Office, where the lateness (e.g. doctor s appointment) is excused. Please note that documents submitted by parents are not binding when the Faculty has sufficient information as to the real reasons for a student s absence (Presidential Decree 485/1983, article 3). Repeated or systematic lateness is dealt with as a disciplinary issue.

2. LATENESS Students should be in their classrooms before each class begins. A student who is late without a reason is not accepted in class and should go to the Dean s Office. In exceptional cases (e.g. working with a teacher which is proven with a supporting note), the student will be accepted in class. If a student who is present in school arbitrarily misses a class, the absence is considered to be a very serious disciplinary issue. 3. EXIT PASSES I) From School: A student that leaves the campus without permission faces disciplinary action. Exit passes are given only at the end of the day and providing there is a signed note from the parent whose authenticity has been confirmed by the Dean s Office. If there is a serious problem (e.g. health or something similar), the student leaves School only accompanies by the parent, or someone authorized by the parent. Exit passes before the end of the school day are given by the Dean s Office only for serious reasons and with written permission from the parent, which is submitted to the Dean s Office before the morning break. Any students that wish to be provided with a permanent exit pass (e.g. students that live in Agia Paraskevi or leave on their own) must submit to the Dean s Office a photograph and a signed declaration from their parent, at the beginning of the school year. II) From class: Leaving class is allowed only for a serious reason. On the reverse side of the attendance form, the student s exit and return times are recorded. III) From class for school activities: Leaving class for a school activity is allowed only if there is a supporting note for the specific activity signed by the Director or Gymnasium or Lyceum Dean respectively, provided that the student who has the note has received permission from his/her teacher before class begins.

Students should keep up-to-date and be prepared daily for all classes so that there will not be a problem in case the scheduled activity is canceled. Release Forms from classes do not apply in case there is a scheduled test. IV) From class to the Infirmary: In case of illness, student can visit the Infirmary during a class with written permission from the teacher, or during breaks with written permission from the Gymnasium or Lyceum Dean. The School Nurse confirms the visit to the Infirmary with a note, which the student gives to the attendance monitor. In case the School Nurse is absent, students must return to class. The Nurse has a lunch break from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. 4. SCHOOL BUSES From the beginning of the school year the parent declares which bus route the student will be using. The use of buses other than the one declared by the parent is not allowed, except in exceptional cases and with a note from the parent and permission from the School. On all school buses the School s rules and regulations apply. Students that travel by school bus should know that their behavior must be the same as it is in School. They must wear seat belts, to obey the recommendations of those responsible and to sit in preset seats. Inappropriate behavior on the bus will mean charges for any damage done and even a student s exclusion from use of the bus. 5. APPEARANCE Students appearance should be simple and appropriate. The avoidance of showing off, pretentiousness and provocations are a sign of a good social upbringing. Students are informed verbally by school authorities at the beginning and during the year, and they are expected to comply with their suggestions. 6. THEATER In the context of the College s cultural tradition, programs such as informative talks and concerts are hosted in the Theater, aimed at the spiritual cultivation of our students. During these programs, students are expected to behave properly, regardless of their personal interesting in the event. They should ensure that the

atmosphere is civilized and show respect both those who organized the program and those who are watching it. Attendance at these events is mandatory for all students, who sit according to the seating chart for each event, accompanied by their teacher, once they have taken attendance in class and their teacher has checked that they are present at the event. 7. CLUBS The school clubs that meet during the school day, whether of a cultural, scientific, athletic or artistic nature, offer students the opportunity to discover and cultivate their individual interests and talents. At the same time they express their creativity and imagination, taking initiative within the spirit of collective work. To achieve these goals, it is essential that all students attend and participate actively during Club hour. 8. SMOKING According to a Ministry of Health circular (76017 / 29.7.2002), SMOKING IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL CAMPUS. The College makes every effort to ensure that students enjoy a clean environment in its facilities, on educational visits, on excursions, as well as on the school buses. Smoking endangers their health with unnecessary and unhealthy pollutants, causes addiction and makes the rest of the students passive smokers. Students that smoke show with this behavior that they do not respect the rules that govern the campus. Disrespecting these rules and violating them will lead to severe penalties. 9. NATIONAL HOLIDAYS FLAG RAISING MORNING PRAYER It is an honor for every student to represent his/her school, when called upon, in certain cases. Our students participation in national holidays and in parades is mandatory. Students march in parades wearing the School uniform. Flag raising takes place at the beginning of every month in the school year. The morning prayer takes place in classrooms at the beginning of the first period. 10. EDUCATIONAL VISITS FIELD TRIPS ONE-DAY AND MULTI-DAY EXCURSIONS

Students taking part in School excursions, environmental, athletic, or other educational field trips must comply strictly with the excursion rules and the orders of their accompanying teachers. They must not forget that they represent not only themselves but also the School. Any misconduct during an excursion may mean the student being withdrawn from participation, or even a proposal from the Faculty for a change in school environment, provided penalties for deviant behavior have preceded or if the misconduct is so serious that it exceeds the School s remedial abilities. At the end of a one-day or multi-day excursion, each student s transportation from the place of arrival is the responsibility of his/her parents and guardians. The means of departure is determined in the parent s declaration of participation for each student. 11. GENERAL BEHAVIOR Students should also be aware the following: 1. Students behavior must be exemplary, both with their teachers and with their classmates, as well as with all those that work on the School campus (administrative, support staff, drivers and bus escorts, etc.). In particular, any use of violence among students will be treated very severely. 2. Arrival and departure of students takes place through the Main Gate and the PIERCE Gate. Students entrance and exit from classrooms takes place by the ramp. The entrance leading to the School s Administrative Offices is not to be used by students. 3. In case a teacher is absent, and after five (5) minutes have passed, the attendance monitor notifies the Gymnasium or Lyceum Secretary. No other student may leave the classroom. In case the substitute teacher is delayed or absent, students are expected to remain in the classroom and not disturb nearby classes. 4. Students movement from one school area to the other during the school day must take place in a timely and quiet manner. Students are not allowed to go

through various School areas where there are No Entry signs or anywhere at DEREE, either when entering or exiting the School or anytime during the daily program. 5. Students are expected to give their parents any written announcements sent by the School for their information. In cases of emergency (natural, weather phenomena, etc.) that make it impossible for students to come to school or require their emergency departure, parents are expected to get information from the Mass Media, our telephone center, as well as the School website. 6. A civilized atmosphere on campus is a must for the learning process. Students must take care to keep all areas of the School clean (classrooms, theater, labs, cafeteria, gyms, bathrooms, etc.) so that a civilized atmosphere is maintained. For a light meal that students bring from home, or that they get in School, they must use only the Cafeteria or the outdoor spaces, but not classrooms. 7. Lyceum students use only the Lyceum bathrooms and Gymnasium students use only Gymnasium bathrooms, without congregating or lingering in these places. 8. Students should not bring expensive objects or money to school beyond what is absolutely necessary. If there is some reason why they have more money or some expensive object with them, they should turn these in to the Dean s Office for safekeeping. Otherwise they themselves are responsible for keeping them safe. 9. The use of mobile telephones and other electronic devices (e.g. walkman, mp3 players, computers, etc.) is forbidden during class time. In addition, taking photographs or recording videos or audio material by any means (e.g. camera, mobile phone, recording device) without permission from the Directors in any space of the School and throughout the school day are forbidden. The use of mobile phones or other video or audio recording devices is considered a serious disciplinary offense which, especially when this violates the rights of other students, of teachers and generally the members of the school community, or which in any way defames the School, leads to severe penalties which may lead even to a change in school environment. In addition, the publication in any print or electronic video, audio or written text that refers to school life and especially the teachers, students and administrative staff of the School without the permission of the Directors is forbidden. The publication of teachers group or individual work in any form, print or electronic, without the permission of the Directors, is forbidden.

Particularly in cases of offenses that are violations of criminal law regarding the use of the internet, the procedures set by the law may be followed by those who have a legal interest. 10. The College bears no responsibility for events that are organized and held by students off Campus, on their own initiative. Posters advertising such events may not bear the emblem or logo of the College. 11. The damage or vandalism of school property and the display of inappropriate language, apart from charges for any damage, are treated as serious disciplinary offenses. 12. Students are expected to observe the internal rules and regulations of the College and to comply with the written and verbal suggestions of school authorities. Students who deviate may be excluded from school events such as activities, field trips, excursions, etc., and also face the set penalties. 13. During the school year, a student may be expelled from the School as the result of a serious disciplinary offense or violation of these rules and regulations, according to the Law 682/1977 (article 16, paragraph 6), by decision of the Faculty. For the same reasons, the decision not to re-enroll a student is allowed. 14. Students parents receive and sign these Internal Rules and Regulations during School registration. This receipt is considered to be a declaration of unconditional acceptance of the same. Compliance with the Rules and Regulations helps in the smooth operation of the School and allows us to prevent disciplinary offenses so that we do not reach the unpleasant position of having to impose penalties, in the pedagogical sense of the term.
