JUNE 4, 2009 THE PARISH SCHOOL BOARD OF VERNON PARISH LOUISIANA CONVENED IN REGULAR SESSION AT 10:00 A.M. AT THE FORT POLK EDUCATION CENTER. PRESIDENT WOODS CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND ON ROLL CALL THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS WERE PRESENT: STEVE WOODS, PRESIDENT RANDI GLEASON MEL HARRIS ROBERT PYNES JR. MARK SMITH BERYL FORD RANDY MARTIN VERNON TRAVIS GAYE MCKEE GENE HAYMON ABSENT: RICKY REESE - OUT OF TOWN MIKE PERKINS - OUT OF TOWN COLONEL DAVID SAGE - ILLNESS There was also present Mr. Jackie D. Self, Secretary of the Board. The meeting was opened in prayer by Chaplain Dave Darbyshire. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve Woods. On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to approve the minutes of the May 12, 2009 regular meeting and dispense with the reading of the minutes.

Commanding General Yarbrough addressed the Board. Bruce Martin, Forestry Department, addressed the Board. Danny Hudson, environmental officer, addressed the Board. On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to receive bids for bread, juice, and milk. Bids were received as follows: Bread Hamburger/Hotdog Buns Hogie Buns IBS Corp. $1.10 $1.10 $3.05 On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to accept the bid from IBS for bread/buns. On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to name a principal at Anacoco Elementary. On recommendation of Superintendent Self, and on motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name Kevin Dowdle as principal at Anacoco Elementary School replacing Sandy Cosio. On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to advertise for assistant principal at Hornbeck High School. On motion of Robert Pynes, seconded by Mark Smith, the Board voted to name a principal at East Leesville. On recommendation of Superintendent Self, and on motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name Ramona Bennett as principal at East Leesville Elementary School replacing Debbie Clark. On motion of Randi Gleason, seconded by Beryl Ford, the Board voted to advertise for assistant principal at East Leesville Elementary. On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to name a principal at Pickering Elementary. On recommendation of Superintendent Self, and on motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name Dwain Ducote as principal at Pickering Elementary School replacing Wallace Wilson. On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to advertise for assistant principal at Vernon Middle. On motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to name a principal at Pickering High. On recommendation of Superintendent Self, and on motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name Hub Jordan as principal at Pickering High School replacing Kevin Lambright.

On motion of Mark Smith, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to advertise for assistant principal at Leesville High School. On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to name a principal at Rosepine High School. On recommendation of Superintendent Self, and on motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Randi Gleason, the Board voted to name Steve Thomas as principal at Rosepine High School replacing Charles Lewis. On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Vernon Travis, the Board voted to advertise for assistant principal at Rosepine High. On motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to name an assistant principal at Simpson High. On recommendation of Superintendent Self, and on motion of Gene Haymon, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to name Lee Coriell as assistant principal at Simpson High School replacing Ron Roy. On motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to name an administrative assistant at Leesville High. On recommendation of Superintendent Self, and on motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by Randy Martin, the Board voted to name William Thomas as administrative assistant at Leesville High School replacing Ron DeGray. On motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by Gene Haymon, the Board voted to name an assistant office manager at the sales tax office. On recommendation of Superintendent Self, and on motion of Randy Martin, seconded by Gaye McKee, the Board voted to name Denise White as assistant office manager at the sales tax office replacing Paulette Jeane.

On motion of Beryl Ford, seconded by Gene Haymon, the Board voted to advertise for propane for Evans, Hicks, and Simpson. On motion of Mel Harris, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following resolution to adopt the Louisiana Compliance Questionnaire: R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the Vernon Parish School Board has yearly audits to assess our systems internal control and to review our compliance with applicable laws and regulations; and WHEREAS, to the best of our knowledge and beliefs, we are in compliance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America; THEREFORE, the Vernon Parish School Board adopts the Louisiana Compliance Questionnaire for the 2009-2010 school year. Mark Smith reported that the Salary/Personnel Committee had met and reviewed the personnel changes for June and would make its recommendation to the Board at the June 9, 2009 Board meeting. Contract employees were discussed and Superintendent Self will make a recommendation at the July 9, 2009 Salary/Personnel Committee meeting. In other business, on motion of Vernon Travis, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following welcoming resolution: R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board take this means to welcome the Calcasieu Union Missionary and Educational Baptist Association to Leesville; and WHEREAS, the Rally Expo is an annual event sponsored by the Louisiana Baptist State Convention Young People's Department; and

WHEREAS, young people and their workers from Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport, Ruston, Alexandria, Lake Charles, Monroe, and Leesville will be present and participating; and BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board welcomes these young people and wishes them a memorable event. Vernon Travis scheduled a Goals & Objectives Committee meeting for July 14, 2009 at 8:30AM. Beryl Ford scheduled a Curriculum Committee meeting for July 14, 2009 at 9:00AM. On motion of Steve Woods, seconded by the Board, the Board adopted the following memorial resolution: R E S O L U T I ON WHEREAS, the members of the Vernon Parish School Board wish to express their sympathy to the family of Don Finch who recently passed away; and WHEREAS, Mr. Finch was the husband of Marie Finch, and the father of Ernest Finch, both former employees of the Vernon Parish School Board; and WHEREAS, Mr. Finch was a resident of Leesville, retired from the Army, and a supporter of the area schools; now BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Vernon Parish School Board requests a copy of this memorial resolution be sent to his family at this time of sadness. There being no further business, and on motion of Gaye McKee, seconded by the Board, the meeting was adjourned
