Librarian, INDUS Institute of Technology & Engineering, Ahmedabad Ms Renuka Dave, Librarian, Shri Chimanbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Computer Applications, Ahmedabad
INTRODUCTION This paper provides an idea to motivate for Resource Sharing in Gujarat Technological University (GTU) affiliated Engineering College Libraries. Networking and Resource Sharing have always been important factors in library services. 2
ABOUT GTU State government formulated GTU on 16th May 2007 to ensure more efficient and systematic imparting of technical education. GTU, is a statewide institution affiliating all the engineering, pharmacy, management & computer applications colleges across all over Gujarat. 3 More than 500 colleges affiliated with GTU & studying approximately 2.5 Lacks students.

Present Scenario of Engineering Libraries 8 Colleges located in remote area. Inefficient Infrastructure of engineering college libraries. Rigid management policy. Lack of skilled Human Resource. Librarians are unaware about the available resources. Lots of precious materials are lying unused and similarly so many students and professionals wasted their time in information searching. Users are not information hungry enough.
Why Resource Sharing? To improve the access and exchange of information available in engineering 9 libraries. To avoid unnecessary duplication of resources. To reduce the cost of budget. To enhance better services. To share experiences.
How to do Resource Sharing? Collection Development collectively. Skill development programmes for library HR. To organize exhibitions of existing materials 10 in member libraries. Librarians meeting with management at host libraries.

BARRIERS OF RESOURCE SHARING Rigid Management Policy Possessive mindset, lack of support to librarian. Afraid of losing materials- librarians are not eager to taking part in resource sharing 12 due to this factor. Lack of time -Librarians are busy with administrative procedure instead of such developing activity and they are facing the shortage of staff also. Lack of Interest- Librarians are not aware enough about the benefit of Resource Sharing.
IMPACT OF RESOURCE SHARING 13 RS can be a bridge for the remote users. Users Satisfactions-Even with limited budget librarian can fulfill the need of users. RS can make the management sensitive about libraries and its services. RS can make the library professionals ready to fight with new challenges. RS can save the time and save the space. RS can Change the image of libraries & librarians. RS can fulfill all the 5 Laws of Dr. Rangnathan.
CONCLUSION The success of Resource Sharing among degree engineering colleges can open the door of diploma & PG courses also and consequently the entire GTU can join in RS Network. 14 The community of Engineering Librarians can build the bridge for Resource Sharing that provides solutions to the access demands of the 21st century academic library!
