Since then, we have helped over 5000 adults and children pursue their artistic endeavors through our course offerings and outreach programs. Our classes provide instruction in a range of disciplines including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, illustration and printmaking. youth classes Learning Art History Through Painting with Jim Paulsen AGES 8 TO 11 SEPT 19 - OCT 24 / 6 wks Community Space 10:00 AM - Noon $ 100 Referencing major movements in art history students will develop new and original works of art. By the end of the class students will have gained knowledge in painting as well as art history. Pottery with Nancy Thayer AGES 11 to 14 Clay Studio 514 SEPT 19 - OCT 24 / 6 wks 10:00 AM - Noon $ 100 Students will explore a variety of handbuilding techniques while creating both utilitarian and sculptural pieces. 21st Century Collage with Amy Greenan AGES 14 to 18 SEPT 19 - OCT 24 / 6 wks 10:00 AM - Noon $ 100 In this multi-media class, students will take hands-on collage to a new level, using Photoshop as a tool to create digital interpretations of paper cut-outs. Working back and forth between the computer and paper, scissors, and glue, we will explore the best of both worlds! Bargue s Drawing Course with Tom Rojek AGES 14 to Adult Wednesdays Community Space SEPT 16 - OCT 28 / 7 wks 6:30-8:30 PM $ 130 Learn a classical approach to drawing. A highly intensive course designed for high school students applying for art schools and adults wanting to further their artistic development. A supply list will be provided. Portfolio Preparation for Students AGES 11 & Up NOV 7 / 1 day Community Space 1:00-3:00 PM FREE Students need to know how to present a strong art portfolio when applying for college, summer school programs or scholarships. Topics include what is an artist statement, how to identify your strongest work and how artwork should be photographed. Please bring current portfolio for feedback. Registration is required. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CLASSES. THERE IS A MAXIMUM REGISTRATION OF 10 STUDENTS IN EACH CLASS, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. ALL CLASSES ARE SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION IF MINIMUM REGISTRATION IS NOT MET. adult workshops Book Bindings with Sewing Techniques with Amy Greenan SEPT 19 & 26 / 2 wks 1:00-5:00 PM $ 80 For the intermediate and advanced bookbinding student, two different sewing techniques will be demonstrated: Coptic binding and Japanese binding. Coptic binding allows you to sew together many signatures for a book that will lay out flat, great for sketchbooks, journals, and scrapbooks! Several variations of the decorative Japanese binding allow flat sheets of paper to be bound together. While some hand sewing experience is helpful, it is not required. A supply list will be provided. Collage with Gerald Mead Tuesdays OCT 6, 13 & 20 / 3 wks 6:30-8:30 PM $ 60 Learn about the history of collage with a slide presentation including examples of work by Picasso, Braque, Ernst, Miro, and several Western New York artists. Discussions will address various stages in developing a collage including collecting material, using a sketchbook and several unique collage techniques. In the second and third classes participants will use the images and materials they have collected to create their own collage. Composition, editing and mounting are among issues that will be discussed and demonstrated. A supply list will be provided on the first night of class. Recycled Art Glass with Cassondra Argeros Community Space OCT 10 & 17 / 2 wks 1:00-3:00 PM $ 45 Using recycled materials make a variety of fused glass art pieces. Learn how to utilize window glass, inclusions such as copper wire, glass frits, powders and much more in this two-day workshop. Supply list will be provided (glass include in cost of class). gift workshops Artful Paper Puppets with Amy Greenan NOV 21 / 1 day 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM $ 40 Explore the whimsical world of movable paper puppets as works of art, both functional and decorative. Work with a template provided by the instructor, or design your own movable art figures. Think outside the box and have some good, old-fashioned fun! Ages 14 and up. Supply list will be provided. Glass Gifts with Cassondra Argeros Community Space DEC 5 / 1 day 12:00-3:00 PM $ 35 Make gifts out of glass! Who wouldn t love to receive a one-of-a-kind handcrafted gift? Projects can range from glass earrings, menorah tiles and tree ornaments. Ages 14 and up. Projects may be either functional or sculptural. All levels are welcome. MATERIALS INCLUDED Acrylic Painting with Rob Lynch Tuesdays SEPT 15 - OCT 20 / 6 wks Community Space 6:30-9:00 PM $ 135 Explore acrylic painting in a studio setting. Projects will be individualized, based on the goals and interests of the students. Students should have some experience with drawing, yet all levels are welcome. A supply list will be provided. Intermediate & Advanced Pottery Studio with Deborah Stewart Tuesdays Clay Studio 514 $195 SEPT 15 - NOV 3 / 8 wks 6:00-9:00 PM To enroll in this class you need to have completed 3 pottery classes at BAS or an equivalent setting. These classes will emphasis advance design techniques along with information on running a clay studio. Fitted respirator or mask is required. Learn the basics of iweb for Mac computers and create a stylish user-friendly website during this class. Basic computer literacy including Photoshop is necessary. Reduced rates for qualifying artist. Portfolios and Proposals with Cori Wolff OCT 3 / 1 day 1:00-3:00 PM FREE Artist will learn how to properly market their work for exhibitions to galleries and museums. Discussion topics include development of a submission package and finding appropriate venues for the type of work produced. Registration is required. Tax & Estate Planning for the Artist with Les Greenbaum Tuesday OCT 27 / 1 day 7:30-9:00 PM FREE This important lecture will discuss considerations for artists including: sales and income tax requirements; donations and appraisals; protecting works and the value of works with a will. Buffalo Arts Studio is a wonderful space for a corporate party, a wedding reception or special event. The rental fee is $250 for up to four hours, including staff time. Class spots will not be held without a deposit of 50% of the total class registration cost. If you choose to hold your spot in a class with a deposit, you must pay the entire 100% of the class registration cost at least 3 days before the first class. If the total registration cost is not received 3 days before the first class, your deposit will not be returned. A complete refund will be given if you cancel your class registration three days or more before the first class. No refunds will be given two days before the class and thereafter. Registrations will be taken in the order in which they are received. There is a maximum registration of 10 students in each class unless otherwise noted. All classes are subject to cancellation if minimum registration is not met. Missed classes are non-refundable and non-transferable. 4
