THE GOAL OF THE IST MEETING IS TO Prvide an verview f the internship experience and prgram expectatins Prvide clarity in the rles/respnsibilities f the IST OVERVIEW OF THE INTERN EXPERIENCE INTERNSHIP The Internship is a (ne) schl-year paid teaching practicum, cmprised f 180 instructinal days with an average f 4 hurs per day in the certificatin area. With successful cmpletin f the internship, the Intern will be eligible fr standard certificatin: Cmpleting all prgram requirements/assignments Receiving an ffer f cntract renewal frm the principal Receiving a recmmendatin frm the University Supervisr Passing scre n the PPR exam 1

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM ASSIGNMENTS Classrm Management Plan Prir t the beginning f schl, the Intern will develp a Classrm Management Plan. Dyslexia Training and Mental Health Training Required by TEA, bth trainings are prvided via the Accelerate Online webpage. Semester Class Schedule At the beginning f each semester, the Intern will prvide a cpy f his/her schedule (including cnference time, lunch perid, etc.) t the University Supervisr. Bi-Weekly Check-Ins A bi-weekly cmmunicatin plan will be established between the Intern and University Supervisr. Methds f cmmunicatin include email, text, phne call, r cnference: Successes (gd things that are happening) Opprtunity fr Grwth (cncerns, prblems) Request fr a phne call r cnference (if needed) Master Teacher Observatins & Reflectins (minimum f 1 per semester) Each semester, the Intern will bserve a campus-based master teacher during the Intern s cnference perid. Prfessinal Learning Artifacts (1 per semester) Each semester, the Intern will prvide a written respnse based n learnings frm prfessinal develpment fferings at the campus, district and/r prgram. Frmal Observatins by the University Supervisr Minimum f fur (4) frmal bservatins during the year; tw (2) per semester. Each bservatin will last a minimum f 45 minutes and are intended t prvide feedback and nt t serve as evaluatins. Scheduled and cnducted by the University Supervisr. The Intern will email a cpy f their bservatin lessn plan t the University Supervisr at least 3 days prir t the bservatin. The University Supervisr will cnduct a pre-cnference with the Intern via email, face time r phne call at least 2 days prir t the bservatin. The University Supervisr will cnduct an interactive pst-cnference (face time, phne r in-persn cnference) within 24 hurs f the bservatin; written feedback within 48 hurs f the pst-cnference will be submitted via CEHD Data Prtal. The Intern will cmplete reflectin questins within 2 business days f receipt via CEHD Data Prtal system. A cpy f each bservatin and Intern reflectin will be emailed t the supervising schl administratr and Accelerate Online. Frmal Observatin Reflectins There are reflectin questins that the Intern must cmplete within 2 business days. The bservatin is nt cnsidered cmplete until the reflectins are submitted. Recrd f Prfessinal Develpment Hurs A recrd f prfessinal develpment hurs must be maintained thrughut the schl year and submitted by the Intern prir t apprval fr standard certificatin. 2

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE IST MEMBERS Each Intern is supprted thrughut the schl year by an Intern Supprt Team, cmprised f Campus Mentr Teacher Supervising Administratr University Supervisr The Intern Supprt Team will wrk as a team t guide the Intern in meeting the internship experience bjectives: Create a classrm envirnment that is respectful f students in a wrld f diverse cultures and expectatins. Develp high levels f teaching cmpetency. Establish prfessinal relatinships with fellw staff, students and parents. Engage in self-evaluatin and prfessinal gal setting. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INTERN Respnsibility t the Students Create and establish a psitive and prfessinal learning envirnment. Develp awareness f students diverse learning, scial and emtinal needs. Knw/fllw curriculum standards (Texas Essential Knwledge & Skills/TEKS). Incrprate strategies/materials that are cnsistent with the students instructinal levels. Prvide lessn activities that require cperatin and active participatin. Maintain cnfidentiality Respnsibility t the Campus Read the campus staff handbk; be familiar with schl plicies & prcedures. Maintain cnsistent attendance and punctuality. Cmplete district/campus tasks and duties n time. Attend all required meetings and prfessinal develpment. Cllabrate with clleagues in sharing ideas and materials. Welcme cnstructive feedback & develp a plan fr self-reflectin. Cmmunicate in a tne that is psitive, tactful and curteus. Dress apprpriately accrding t schl dress cde. Respnsibility t the University Supervisr/Accelerate Online Prgram Cmmunicate bi-weekly with the University Supervisr. Seek input and assistance frm the Mentr Teacher. Welcme feedback and incrprate suggestins int subsequent planning and teaching. Turn in all submissins and payment fees by the due date/s. Ntify the University Supervisr immediately f any changes in assignment. 3

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CAMPUS MENTOR TEACHER The Campus Mentr Teacher is the staff persn t whm the Intern will turn t n a frequent basis fr answers t questins and t share their prfessinal expertise, knwledge, and skills with the Intern. The mentr teacher is assigned by the campus and/r district administratin. Respnsibility t the Intern Orient the Intern with the schls physical layut, daily bell schedule, discipline plicies/ prcedures Share unwritten rules fr success within the schl/district Prvide resurces fr creating lessn plans/engaging lessns (apps, websites, blgs, vides, etc.) Explain the use f curriculum guides and ther resurces fr the grade/subject Explain the methds f recrd keeping fr attendance, tardiness, grades, cnduct, etc. Discuss emergency prcedures such as fire drills, lckdwns, illness, fighting, etc. Prvide a specific time fr planning and discussing issues n a regular basis Maintain cnfidentiality Respnsibility t the University Supervisr/Accelerate Online Prgram Attend the Intern Supprt Team Meeting, crdinated by the University Supervisr (attendees: Intern, Mentr Teacher, Supervising Administratr, University Supervisr) Participate in the Online Mentr Training prvided by Texas A&M University Cmmunicate with the University Supervisr n a regular basis regarding prgress Cntact the University Supervisr with questins and/r cncerns immediately RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SUPERVISING ADMINISTRATOR The Supervising Administratr will ensure that the Intern understands the schls visin, gals, student learning expectatins, areas f strengths, and areas f fcus. Respnsibility t the Intern Ensure that the internship is a ne (1) schl-year practicum, cmprised f 180 instructinal days, with an average f fur (4) hurs per day in the certificatin area Maintain cnstant awareness f the Intern's develpment by means f required bservatins and walk- thrugh bservatins Prvide feedback regarding the Intern s strengths and areas fr grwth Maintain pen cmmunicatin with the Intern and assist with prblems Respnsibility t the University Supervisr/Accelerate Online Prgram Attend the Intern Supprt Team Meeting, crdinated by the University Supervisr (attendees: Intern, Mentr Teacher, Supervising Administratr, University Supervisr) Make a final recmmendatin t the University Supervisr regarding the Intern s standard certificatin eligibility Cntact the University Supervisr with questins and/r cncerns immediately. 4

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE UNIVERSITY SUPERVISOR Assigned by the Accelerate Online prgram, the University Supervisr will cnduct bservatins thrughut the year and prvide n-ging feedback regarding instructin, learning, and classrm management via bi-weekly cmmunicatin. Respnsibility t the Intern Crdinate and cnduct the Intern Supprt Team Meeting (attendees: Intern, Mentr Teacher, Supervising Administratr, University Supervisr) Observe the Intern a minimum f fur (4) times during the schl year (2 in the fall semester, 2 in the spring semester; 45 minutes each; written feedback prvided within 48 hurs f pst-cnference) Prvide verbal pst-cnference feedback via face time, phne call r in-persn cnference regarding the Intern s strengths and areas fr grwth after each bservatin Maintain bi-weekly check-ins with the Intern and assist with prblems/issues as they arise Cmplete a Grwth Plan fr area/s f cncern, if needed. Respnsibility t the Campus Cmmunicate with the Mentr Teacher t mnitr and supprt the Intern s experience Cntact the University Supervisr with cncerns and/r implementatin f Grwth Plan immediately Respnsibility t the Accelerate Online Prgram Cmplete all duties as utlined in the Accelerate Online University Supervisr Curse Mnitr and assess Intern assignments Dcument any infractins f schl plicy r prfessinalism and/r unsatisfactry prgress in the classrm and ntify Accelerate Online immediately. Make a final recmmendatin t Accelerate Online regarding Intern standard certificatin eligibility 5
