Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht Berlin Department of Business and Economics Master Accounting and Controlling accredited by

Accounting and Controlling Berlin School of Economics and Law The Master in Accounting and Controlling at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) is designed for gradu ates from Germany and abroad who have completed a career-oriented first degree (usually a Bachelor or Diploma) and would like to study for a post-graduate degree with an international group of students. The programme prepares students for positions as accounting and controlling specialists or executive managers in consulting or auditing firms or in international companies. In the public administration sector, the Master degree is recognised as a qualification allowing the holder to apply for posts in the senior civil service. Courses are predominantely structured as interactive seminars, with teaching in English. The small group size facilitates direct dialogue and close contact between the students and the academic staff. With around 10 000 students the Berlin School of Economics and Law is a large advanced educational establishment for applied science located in Germany s capital. It is characterized by a marked practical orientation, by intensive and varied research, high quality standards and a strongly international orientation. The subjects offered embrace private and public Economic Management, Administrative Management, Law Management and Security Management, as well as Engineering Science in more than 50 courses of study. Almost all courses of study have been adapted to Bachelor and Master certificates, have been checked for quality and bear the seal of the accrediting body. At the students find an intercultural and practice-oriented learning environment. Small study groups ensure a quick response to individual learning requirements. The seminar and lecture rooms are equipped with modern media. Extensive libraries and digital workplaces are available. An international alignment enriches campus life. The currently maintains around 160 active partnerships with universities on all continents and is a member of»uas7 Alliance for excellence«. 2 Accounting and Controlllin 3

Key facts Programme Full-time Duration 3 semesters (for applicants with 210 credit points) 4 semesters (for applicants with 180 credit points) Start 1 October each year (Winter Semester) Structure The Master programme is basically divided into three parts: 1st semester: Foundation course 2nd semester: Specialisation In the second semester, students are offered the electives of either Financial Accounting or Managerial Accounting / Controlling as their main area of specialisation. 3rd semester: Thesis (provided students do not have to take an additional work placement semester). The foundation course (worth a total of 30 Credit Points) enables students to extend their knowledge acquired during their undergraduate studies to develop further expertise in Financial and Managerial Accounting and related subjects. The second semester modules also worth 30 Credit Points are build on the foundation course to provide the specialised skills required for the challenges in the chosen career sector. In addition to specialising in IFRS accounting standards and controlling with selected focus topics and projects, a range of additional courses are provided by the electives and the Master Pool options. Unless students spend their third semester on a work placement, this semester is scheduled for completing the degree by submitting the thesis and defending it in an oral exam. The third semester is worth a total of 30 Credit Points. For students with an undergraduate degree worth 180 Credit Points, the Master programme comprises four semesters in total since they are required to take a work placement in the third semester. The thesis is then presented in the fourth semester. The work placement semester is optional for those students who have an undergraduate degree worth 210 Credit Points. Language of instruction English MA degree The (BSEL) awards successful students on this programme the internationally recognised Master of Arts (M. A.) degree. The Master degree is worth a total of 90 Credit Points. Fee There are no tuition fees for this programme as it is funded through public grants. Students are required to pay a semester fee.
