Diploma Supplement This Diploma Supplement model was developed by the European Commission, Council of Europe and UNESCO/CEPES. The purpose of the supplement is to provide sufficient independent data to improve the international transparency and fair academic and professional recognition of qualifications (diplomas, degrees, certificates, etc.). It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were pursued and successfully completed by the individual named on the original qualification to which this supplement is appended. It should be free from any value judgements, equivalence statements or suggestions about recognition. Information in all eight sections should be provided. Where information is not provided, an explanation should give the reason why. 1. Holder of the Qualification 1.1 Family Name / 1.2 First Name, 1.3 Date, Place, Country of Birth,, 1.4 Student ID Number or Code not of public interest 2. 3. Level of the Qualification 3.1 Level First Degree, single subject, with thesis 3.2 Official Length of Program 5,5 years (11 semesters), 210 ECTS-Credits 3.3 Access Requirements Higher Education Entrance Qualification (HEEQ); General or Specialized or HEEQ for UAS, cf. Sect. 8.7, or foreign equivalent; plus a minimum of 8 weeks practical placement 4. Contents and Results gained 4.1 Mode of Study part time, the work-study program with 2-3 days weekly occupation in a company parallel to university courses 4. 2 Program Requirements This Bachelor program will equip students with the necessary knowledge and ability to act as a professional Electrical Engineer either in the field of Automation Engineering, Information and Communications Engineering or Environmental Engineering within a regular study period of eleven semesters. It also allows students to pursue a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or any related field. All lectures and course content are identical to the full-time study. The modules start with fundamentals in Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied & Practical Computer Science and Technical English. Building on this foundation the modules Microelectronics, Digital Engineering, Electronic Circuits, Signals and Systems, Control Engineering, Microprocessor Engineering, Networks and Protocols, Software Engineering, IT and Data Security, Automation Engineering, Information and Communications Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Environmental Compatibility. Additional modules in Business Administration, Law and Project Management will give students the skills to systematically plan, conduct and analyse projects Depending on the specialization track chosen, the study includes the following modules: - Automation Engineering: Introduction to Automation Engineering, Real-time Systems, Power Electronics and Propulsion and a Practical Project. - Information and Communications Engineering: Introduction to Communication Engineering, Telecommunications Technology, Information Systems and a Practical Project. - Environmental Engineering: Introduction to Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sensors, Environmental Energy Technology and a Practical Project Each of these modules is completed with a final examination, which can be repeated up to two times in case of a failure. Most of the modules comprise laboratory work as an integral part of the studies; it incorporates laboratory work to strengthen the students' ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret their data. To improve the students' ability to interact within a technical context, a significant part of the curriculum focuses on developing a set of social skills. Correspondingly, students have to participate in projects which will be finished with a final presentation, while seminar modules require the student to prepare and deliver a short presentation on a given topic. As part of the last semester, students do a project work under the supervision of a faculty member to bring in and enhance their knowledge and skills acquired during the course of study. The project
work is finished with a written report. The Bachelor study is completed with an experimental thesis dealing with a real-world engineering problem and its proposed solution. The thesis is presented and evaluated in form of a colloquium. 4.3 Program Details See Final Examination Certificate ("Prüfungszeugnis") for subjects offered in written and oral examinations and topics of thesis, including evaluations. 4.4 Grading Scheme General grading scheme cf. Sec. 8.6; The student will get a Final Examination Certificate where for each module a grade in accordance with the German grading scheme, c.f. Sec. 8.6, will be given. Additionally, the Overall Classification will be given in ECTS grades, c.f. SEC. 8.6. 4.5 Overall Classification (in original language) "Note, deutsche Bezeichnung" based on the average grade of all graded modules - weighted by the ECTS-points of the modules; cf. Prüfungszeugnis (Final Examination Certificate) 5. Function of the Qualification 5.1 Access to Further Study Qualifies to apply for admission to graduate study programs 5.2 Professional Status The bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering entitles its holder to the legally protected title "Ingenieur" and to exercise professional work in the fields of engineering for which the degree was awarded 6. Additional Information 6.1 Additional Information The Bachelor course of studies in Electrical Engineering will be accredited by ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik e. V.), Germany 6.2 Further Information Sources 1. Institution homepage: www.hs-niederrhein.de 2. For national information sources cf. Sect. 8.8 7.
