Wordly Wise 3000Online Frequently Asked Questions Using the Program What can students do if they need help figuring out how to complete an activity? In-program help is available on every screen. How does the program support struggling readers and English language learners? Wordly Wise 3000 Online includes optional audio for all on-screen text and question-specific feedback that helps students find the right answers. Can students redo activities in the program? Yes. Students will need to redo any activities accessed from the Selection Screen that they did not master. The teacher has the option of modifying or disabling the Mastery Requirement. Are students able to access the lesson words and definitions as they do the activities? Yes. With the exception of the tests and the Word List activity, students are able to click a Word List button on all screens and see the words and their definitions. How do students get more practice with words they do not master in the post-test activity? When students miss a word on the post-test, they are automatically assigned a Master Meanings activity for that word. Also, the Detailed Class Test Results report in the Management System will help you identify words that are problematic for many students in your class. You can then refer to the Resource Area for additional strategies and activities for reteaching the words; in addition, the Word Lists, with definitions and sample sentences for each lesson, are provided as Printable Resources. Students can use these printable documents to review and study the words. How do I change a student s level and lesson assignment? A student s level can be changed at any time in the Management System. Please refer to Help topics available within the system for how-to information. How do I add new students to the program at the beginning of the year? Students can be added at any time during the year. Please refer to Help topics available within the system for how-to information. Is there a way to roll students forward for this school year if they were in the system last year? The Management System enables you to transition students from previous years. Please refer to Help topics available within the system for how-to information. 3

Wordly Wise 3000Online Frequently Asked Questions Can students work on the program at home? Yes. You will need to provide students with the URL for the program to access Wordly Wise 3000 Online at home. In addition, you may wish to print and send home the Home Access Information document found in the Customer Documentation Package. (In the Resources menu on any tab, click Getting Started. Then click the Customer Documentation Package link.) Some teachers prefer that all students take the tests in Wordly Wise 3000 Online in class at the same time to ensure security. You have the option to prevent students from taking any lesson posttest, cumulative, mid-term, or final test at home or until such time as you are ready for students to take the test. Note that if you disable automatic delivery of tests, you will need to go into the Management System and activate any test a student is ready to take in order for him or her to proceed in the program. (See the settings on that page for more information.) Is there a certificate I can give to students who complete the level? Yes, you can find printable level certificates that you can personalize for individual students in the Resource Area. Management and Reporting If a student joins the class partway through the year, do I have to start that student at Lesson 1? No. If a student transfers to the class partway through the year, you may assign the student to any lesson you wish. Keep in mind that if you do so, you may wish to turn off Cumulative, Midterm, Final Tests, and review puzzles that cover lessons the student has not completed. Is student work saved if an activity is not completed during class time? Yes. As long as students log out correctly by clicking on the X in the upper right-hand corner of the main splash screen, all student work is saved. The next time the students log in, they will automatically be taken to the place where they stopped. Does the online program include any open-ended writing activities, and if so, how do they work? The Understanding Meanings and Using Words activities in Levels 9 12 include open-ended writing questions. In both activities, students type in answers that teachers can later review and score in the Management System. Note that all open-ended writing questions in Levels 9 12 are on by default, but can be disabled, if you decide your students will not have time to complete these activities online or if you wish to make the exercise easier. Printable versions of the online passages that contain open-ended writing activities are also available in the Resource Area. Each passage is followed by a series of comprehension questions that can be used to reinforce word meanings. These differ from the cloze questions following the passage in the online program, and they can be used as an additional challenge. 4

Wordly Wise 3000Online Frequently Asked Questions How can I view the contents of the online activities? You can view the contents of any activity using the Program Content Viewer. Note that questions randomize in each activity and will appear in a different order for each student. Are any activities optional; that is, can they be disabled? The following activities are on by default but can be disabled: All four activities (3 in Level 2) shown on the Selection Screen Review Puzzles (all levels) Cumulative and Final Tests (Levels 2 3) Midterm and Final tests (Levels 4 12) Open-ended writing activities (Levels 9 12) Note that should you choose to keep the puzzles on, you still have the option to change the amount of time students have to complete the puzzle. The default time allowed for students to complete the puzzle is 15 minutes. You may adjust this time in 5-minute increments or allow students an unlimited amount of time. What kind of information will I find in the reports? Wordly Wise 3000 Online reports help teachers analyze progress at the class and individual student levels. Snapshot reports show student and class performance on specific activities; Test Results reports show individual and class scores and time on tests; Progress reports shows how each student in the class is progressing from pre-test to post-test on each lesson. Please see Interpreting Reports in the Resource Area for more information. Technical How do I change a student s password?
