CATEGORIES OF FOREIGN STUDENTS ADMITTED TO IIT GUWAHATI FOR FULL TIME MASTERS AND PH.D. PROGRAM- 1. Sponsored Candidates Foreign students who wish to apply as candidates sponsored by their government, educational institutions, trusts or any other registered body, will need to submit their applications through the concerned bodies and duly forwarded by an authorized official of the respective government/embassy/department/institute, etc. 2. Self - Financed Candidates: Those candidates applying for admissions in IITG Guwahati under self-financing category should provide Financial Declaration by Parents/ Guardian /self and send their complete application with all the supporting documents. 3. Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) candidates- Applications of Foreign Nationals nominated by the ICCR, Ministry of External Affairs Government of India under scholarship scheme shall be entertained only for the Masters and Ph.D. programmes of the Institute. 4. Candidates from partner institutions having MOUs with IITG- For students from institutions which have signed MoUs with IITG, admission will be made under the terms and conditions given in the MoUs. The applicant should have completed 17 years of age; there is no maximum age limit for foreign students 2. Student must have an appropriate Student Visa or Research Visa for the planned study program. The applicant should contact the Indian Embassy or High Commission in his/her home country for more information on the type of visa needed. 3. ENGLISH is the only language used for teaching in IIT Guwahati 5. In case of students from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, and Sudan), the application MUST be forwarded through the Indian Embassy or the High Commission in their respective countries.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS REQUIRED (all self-attested): 1. For Self - Financed Candidates and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) a. Application form available in IITG website b. Updated Resume c. Transcripts/ grade cards/ degree of last qualifying examination. d. Three recommendations letter- at least one recommendation should be from a faculty member of the last attended Institute. e. Copy of valid passport f. Statement of purpose (500 words) g. Two (2) recent passport size color photos h. Applicants are requested to attach a MEDICAL FITNESS CERTIFICATE from a doctor attesting to their physical and medical fitness. (format available in the IITG website) i. Documentary proof to illustrate fluency in English language. j. Financial undertaking from the candidate. 2. For Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) candidates: a. Candidates seeking admission under a Cultural Exchange Fellowship program are required to apply through the Indian High Commission/Embassy in their respective countries. They will send the application to ICCR Government of India and then ICCR will forward the application/s to various University / Institute in India as the case may be for consideration. b. In case the applicant is found suitable for admission, admission offer letter will be sent to him/her through Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi. 3. For students from institutions which have signed MOUs with IITG: Admission will be made under the terms and conditions given in the MOU, the candidate should be officially nominated and forward their application through the International office of the home Institute.
SELECTION COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION Concerned department will constitute a selection committee (case to case basis) with at least 3 (three) members headed by HOD of the concerned Department. Followed by a Skype / Telephonic interview. Applicants are advised to have an active Skype ID OFFER OF ADMISSION Offer will be made based on recommendations received from the department. Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) Foreign students holding foreign passports but with OCI or PIO cards, admitted to PG programs in IITG, the fees charged will be the same as applicable for normal foreign students. Any concession applicable to citizens of SAARC countries will also be available to them if they hold passports from any of the SAARC countries 4. Payment of Fees:- You would be required to pay the following fees at the time of registration. This can be paid through a Demand Draft in favor of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and must be payable at GUWAHATI. It can be either in US DOLLARS or in equivalent INDIAN RUPEES. Important Note: a. Fees can be paid in INR or USD by taking into account exchange rate prevailing at the time of payment. b. Registration Fee rates are subject to change depending upon policies of the Government of India. c. Fee rate on this account may be change depending upon prices of food items. d. In addition to the above, the admitted student will have to pay Mess Dues on monthly basis- which at present Rupees (INR) 2,550/- per month (equal to about USD 47) per month) for basic menu. This amount is to be paid directly to the HAB (Students Affairs Section) in the same month you join the Institute.
