Late Morning Arrival & Class Tardies Late arrival to any class after the bell rings is considered a tardy. Students who arrive to school after 8:50 a.m. are counted tardy. There is a five-minute passing period between classes with a grace period the first two weeks of school. A student who arrives to a class 20 minutes or more late without an excused pass will be counted truant with discipline consequences also counting as an absence for the class. *see the student agenda/planner for consequences for tardies

State-Mandated Compulsory Attendance Attendance is taken very seriously by the state, BISD, and BMSS. Middle school attendance is taken every period each A day & B day, unlike at elementary school where attendance is taken at a specific time once each day. Students with absences falling below 90% attendance in one or more classes are in jeopardy of failing that class per state law. *If a student s attendance in a class dips below 90%,Saturday School Attendance Recovery is mandated. *2 or more academic class failures in a year result in automatic, mandatory retention per district policy.
