Descendants of Anna Elisabeth Riedesel Generation 1 1. ANNA ELISABETH 1 RIEDESEL was born on April 30, 1820 in Wunderthausen. She died on June 12, 1909 in Big Rock, Clinton, Iowa (St. Paul's She married Johann Franz Homrighausen, son of Georg Ludwig Homrighausen and Maria Elisabeth Haase, on January 21, 1844 in Wunderthausen. He was born on July 06, 1814 in Wunderthausen. He died on February 27, 1907 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa (St. Paul's Notes for Anna Elisabeth Riedesel: Born in Haase Haus in Wunderthausen. Came to America with the Riedesel family in 1845. They arrived in New York on Jun 7, 1845 (ship's name unknown). They moved on to the Wheatland area at some later date. She was the mother of 11 children but I have names of only 7. Notes for Johann Franz Homrighausen: Born in Räderhaase/Haasebergers Haus in Wunderthausen. Came to Crawford County, Ohio in 1845 with the extended Riedesel family. They had arrived in New York out of Bremen on June 7, 1845. Before the founding of St. Paul's in 1861, he is recorded as a founding member of a German Reformed congregation or community (Gemeinde) in 1857. By the time of his death, he owned 536 acres of farmland at Wheatland (in Sections 27, 28 and 33 of the Spring Rock Township). He was clearly a prosperous farmer and a respected elder in the German community. Though his two wives had the same given names, they were not that closely related. The three sons each took over part of his substantial farm. Johann Franz Homrighausen and Anna Elisabeth Riedesel had the following children: 2. i. CATHARINE 2 HOMRIGHAUSEN was born on December 25, 1845 in Crawford County, Ohio. She died on March 26, 1941 in Olympia, Thurston, Washington. She married Erastus Holmes on November 26, 1862 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. He was born in June 1819 in New York. He died in 1903 in Dawson County, Nebraska (Overton Cemetery). 3. ii. MARIA ELISABETH HOMRIGHAUSEN was born on June 25, 1847 in Crawford County, Ohio. She died on November 17, 1933 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa (St. Paul's Cemetery, Wheatland). She married Johann Ludwig Strackbein, son of Johann Georg Strackbein and Maria Magdalena Homrighausen, on June 09, 1868 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. He was born on March 18, 1836 in Wunderthausen. He was born on April 08, 1876. He died on August 16, 1970 in Thurston, Washington (Masonic Memorial Park). iv. HARVEY LEWIS HOLMES was born on October 11, 1879 in DeWitt, Clinton, Iowa. Lived first in Kansas and then at Red Bud, Illinois. He enlisted in the 7th Illinois Cavalry on August 27, 1861 at Red Bud. The enlistment record describes him as being 5' 11" tall with brown eyes and a dark complexion. He was captured at Coldwater, Mississippi on November 3, 1863, and held at the infamous Andersonville prison. He survived and was mustered out April 21, 1865. Moved to the Wheatland area in 1865 where he farmed until about 1910. He and Maria owned several lots in Wheatland as well as farmland. The main farm was in Section 34 of the Spring Rock Township. Johann Ludwig Strackbein and Maria Elisabeth Homrighausen had the following children:

i. ELISABETH ANN 3 STRACKBEIN was born on March 09, 1870 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. She died on July 11, 1905 in Prosser, Benton, Washington. She married Frederick Earle Knowles, son of Stephen A. Nowels and Amelia Daisey Dorr, on November 18, 1891 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. He was born on September 18, 1869 in DeWitt, Clinton, Iowa. He died on May 17, 1940 in Yakima, Washington. ii. Notes for Frederick Earle Knowles: The family moved from Clinton County, Iowa to Whatcom County, Washington, some time between 1896 and 1898. JOHN CONRAD STRACKBEIN was born on November 09, 1872 in Big Rock, Clinton, Iowa. He died on December 25, 1968 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. He married Luise Riedesel, daughter of Johann Georg Riedesel and Katherine Riedesel, on December 05, 1905 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. She was born on July 17, 1881 in Wunderthausen. Also on the ship was a 23-year old Georg Strackbein whom I have not been able to identify. I think he was a Wunderthausen cousin who came as an escort and to visit relatives before returning home. Her older sister, Lisetta, had come the year before. LOUISA STRACKBEIN was born on July 17, 1874 in Big Rock, Clinton, Iowa. She died on February 05, 1967 in Probably Colorado. She married Calvin Ulysses Conrad in June 1915. He was born on May 01, 1868. He died on December 15, 1950. Notes for Louisa Strackbein: Living in Idalia, CO in 1919. iv. GEORGE JOHN STRACKBEIN was born on August 11, 1876 in Big Rock, Clinton, Iowa. He died on March 24, 1969. He married Hulda Odillie Lendt on December 16, 1903 in Spring Rock Township, Clinton County, Iowa. She was born on April 07, 1878. She died on February 03, 1967. v. LISETTA CHRISTINE STRACKBEIN was born on June 29, 1878 in Big Rock, Clinton, Iowa. She died on September 23, 1914 in Iowa (St. Paul's Cemetery, Wheatland). She married William Bentrott on July 29, 1896 in Toronto, Clinton, Iowa. He was born on May 12, 1871. He died on October 07, 1955 (St. Paul's vi. He died on February 04, 1973 in Lowden, Cedar, Iowa. ii. EMIL HOMRIGHAUSEN was born on April 11, 1886 in Clinton County, Iowa. He died on July 16, 1974 in Clinton County, Iowa. He married Henrietta Minnie Horstman on February 15, 1922. She was born on February 03, 1899. Notes for Georg Ludwig Kroh: Known as George. Born in Schwarze Haus, Wunderthausen. Came to the U.S. on the ship Salier out of Bremen, arriving in New York on October 4, 1881. He lived first at Paola, Kansas, before going to Wheatland. He worked at the L.H. Homrighausen rolling mill, and played in the town band. He then farmed and built houses. Following the death of his first wife--the daughter of Wunderthausen emigrants--he returned to Germany. There he married Lisette Riedesel and they came back to Wheatland to live. This trip was on the ship Bremen out of Bremen, landing in New York on September 24, 1902. The rest of her family followed four years later. His first farm was in Section 20, his second in Section 19 of the Spring Rock Township of Clinton County. Georg Ludwig Kroh and Anna Susannah Homrighausen had the following children: i. GEORGE W. 3 KROH was born on December 29, 1892 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. He died on January 05, 1966 in Hopkins, Hennepin, Minnesota. He married Ida Louise Lange about 1916. She was born on September 14, 1895 in Iowa City, Cedar, Iowa. She died on August 24, 1960 in Douglas, Minnesota. ii. ANNA ELISABETH KROH was born on April 12, 1896 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. She died on August 14, 1954 in Lost Nation, Clinton, Iowa. iii. LYDIA LOUISE KROH was born on May 26, 1898 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. She died on March 21, 1988 in Calamus, Clinton, Iowa. She married Henry August Bentrott on February 04, 1920 in Wheatland, Clinton, Iowa. He was born on February 03, 1900 in Lost Nation, Clinton, Iowa. He died on August 19, 1972 in Calamus, Clinton, Iowa. Notes for Lydia Louise Kroh: Had at least four children.
