Partners The origins of Pearson go back as far as 1724 when Thomas Longman founded Longman. Pearson was actually founded in 1844 by Samuel Pearson as S. Pearson and Son, a small building firm in Yorkshire in the North of England. By the 1880s, Pearson became one of the world's largest building contractors at a time when the industry controlled development of the transportation, trade and communication links that fuelled world economies. In the intervening years, we have been and done many different things. Today, we are focused solely on education - a very different company than the one our founder had envisioned. But his imagination for harnessing new technologies, his bravery of vision, and decency to the people and cultures he worked with are values that still underpin everything we do all these years later. Pearson is the UK s leading provider of qualifications assessment and awarding services offering both academic and professional qualifications, accreditation and recognition services, and testing to schools, colleges, employers and other places of learning. With a portfolio of over 5,000 vocational qualifications, delivered to more than 5 million learners in over 85 countries worldwide every year, our standardised and globally recognised qualifications provide learners with the best employment opportunities. Each year, over 1 million of these learners register on the BTEC/NVQ vocational qualifications which are recognised by employers and universities worldwide. Pearson Assured is a service that assures the quality of the processes underpinning the design, delivery, quality assurance and/or assessment of the organisation s own education or training programmes. Pearson do not assure specific qualifications offered by BIBF. For more information visit: www.pearson.com ENGLISH LANGUAGE QUALIFICATIONS 2016 final.indd 3
