Projects Abroad Morocco Have a happy reading THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF PROJECTS ABROAD MOROCCO April 2013 CONTENT : I. Volunteer s story : Daniel Leung II. Upcoming events : Mawazine music festival III. IV. Photo update Volunteer s contact list

1. Volunteers Story Daniel Leung My name is Daniel Leung and I am from the UK. I did a teaching project with Projects Abroad Morocco for three months. Through my stay in Morocco I had a chance to experience the Moroccan culture first hand and I have been enrolled in a day to day lifestyle with a Moroccan host family who considered me as part of the family. As a whole the experience was a success. I taught in three different places: Amali Association, Amesip and Association des Amoureux. Teaching was such a brilliant experience for me and I had also the chance to work with my students at Amali Association on a guidebook to explore Morocco, that we named Smile you are in Morocco. It was an overwhelming experience for me watching the students level improving session after session and after all the conversations I had with my students. One of the challenges I faced is the fact that I had students who are at different levels at the same class at times, which made it hard for me to work with. Also, some students didn t turn up to class regularly so I had to repeat some lessons. Besides these challenges teaching was a fun and very helpful experience where I learned a lot.

The project helped me develop my teaching skills. For example I had to adapt my teaching style according to the type of students I had every time and observe how they respond to the class activities. I had weekends free which gave me the opportunity to travel around most of the big cities and small villages. All my traveling was enjoyable and one that I would never forget was when I went to Ouarzazat, Merzouga, and Sahara desert. I slept outside under the stars. The projects I undertook were equally memorable in a different way. Writing and completing the guidebook with my English students was extremely enjoyable and seeing them improve was a memorable experience. Amesip was also an interesting placement where I experienced seeing the joy of children enjoying music and playing. Finally, I recommend Projects Abroad Morocco to people who want to bring a change and help others. Projects Abroad Morocco provides a variety of projects that suits one s interests in a structured and safe way. It also provides the opportunity to learn, work and travel with the help and guidance of the staff when needed.
