Richmond, IN Vice President for Institutional Advancement www.earlham.edu THE INSTITUTION Earlham is comprised of Earlham College and the Earlham School of Religion, located in Richmond, Indiana, a city of about 39,000 residents. Founded in 1847 by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Earlham College is an independent, four-year, coeducational, residential institution of higher learning. Approximately 1,100 undergraduate students attend Earlham College on its 800-acre, treeshaded campus. Earlham College offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in 40 disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching. The Earlham School of Religion, established in 1960 and administered by its own Dean, offers the Master of Arts degree in religion and the Master of Ministry degree. A total of 71 resident and non-resident students are enrolled in these graduate programs. Among the nation's academically strongest liberal arts colleges, Earlham College is organized around four academic divisions (Fine Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences). Additionally, seven interdisciplinary majors and 12 interdisciplinary minors are offered. LAMBERT & ASSOCIATES EARLHAM COLLEGE 1

Earlham's international and domestic off-campus programs are popular enhancements for the College's curriculum, attracting participation from 70% of the student body. In addition, students may engage in summer research programs. The student body, 56% of which are female, and 44% male, represent 47 states and 62 countries. Ninety-five percent of full-time faculty members hold the terminal degree in their field. Earlham's varsity athletes compete in the NCAA Division III and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Earlham s signature expression of the Liberal Arts can be found in EPIC, Earlham s Plan for Integrative Collaboration, which supports a funded internship or student-faculty research experience for every interested student. Combining a multi-disciplinary approach to addressing world problems, EPIC provides open space for collaborative inquiry across disciplines. Central to EPIC is CoLab, which is physical space created to encourage faculty and students to collaborate across the various centers and disciplines, including the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Center for Social Justice, Center for Global Health, and Center for Global Education. Earlham s successful results in integrative and collaborative education are evident through student award-winning work and scholar opportunities. Recognitions Earlham is proud to be among the 40 colleges chosen by Loren Pope for inclusion in his book Colleges That Change Lives, first published in 1996. Earlham is ranked No. 23 in Forbes' "Best Colleges of the Midwest," and is the only Indiana liberal arts college listed. Earlham is routinely included in Forbes annual ranking of America s Best Colleges. Of the approximately 4,000 colleges in the United States, Forbes ranks just 660 colleges. Earlham is ranked 132nd among all private and public colleges and universities. Earlham is among 10 percent of four-year colleges and universities nationwide, and one of only three liberal arts colleges in Indiana, that have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. Approximately 30 students are elected to Earlham's Phi Beta Kappa Chapter each year. The Earlham faculty includes 28 Phi Beta Kappa members. U.S. News and World Report ranks Earlham College among top national liberal arts colleges in a variety of categories. Of particular interest: 6th in largest percentage of international students, 26th for value (40 "Great Schools at a Great Price"), 24th for best undergraduate teaching, and 68th among national liberal arts colleges. Mission The mission of Earlham College is to provide the highest quality undergraduate education in the liberal arts, including the sciences, shaped by the distinctive perspectives of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Earlham emphasizes: pursuit of truth, wherever that pursuit leads; lack of coercion, letting the evidence lead that search; respect for the consciences of others; openness to new truth and therefore the willingness to search; veracity, rigorous integrity in dealing with the facts; application of what is known to improving our world. LAMBERT & ASSOCIATES EARLHAM COLLEGE 2

To provide education of the highest quality with these emphases, Earlham's mission requires selection of an outstanding and caring faculty committed to creating an open, cooperative, learning environment. The College provides for the continuous support and development of this faculty. At Earlham College, this education is carried on with a concern for the world in which we live and for improving human society. The College strives to educate morally sensitive leaders for future generations. Therefore, Earlham stresses global education, peaceful resolution of conflict, equality of persons, and high moral standards of personal conduct. Alan C. Price Earlham s 18 th President The Earlham College Board of Trustees has named Alan C. Price 88 the College s 18th president. He will take office on July 1, 2017. He most recently served as the Associate Director of Management for the Peace Corps as well as the Acting Chief of Staff for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in Washington, D.C. An expert in change management and leadership development, Price joined Earlham s Board of Trustees in July 2016. Price, who is African-American, will be the first person of color to serve as Earlham s president. Although he ran a department at Harvard Business School and has taught on the university level, his career has spanned a broad range of experiences in non-profit, for-profit and government organization that will inform his return to academia. He majored in economics at Earlham and earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School in 1992. In a varied career, he has worked as a consultant to major corporations, but also displayed a passion for education, including serving as an elected member of the Cambridge (Mass.) School Board from 2002-04. He also has a long history of public service, serving in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1983-89 and on the Cambridge (Mass.) Police Review and Advisory Board from 1996-2002, in addition to leadership roles in federal government, to which he was appointed by President Barack Obama. Fundraising Earlham College s last comprehensive campaign, the largest in its history, was completed in 2011-12. Purpose and Passion: The Campaign for Earlham, brought $68 million to the school, surpassing the campaign s $60 million goal. Prior to that, Earlham College raised $30 million with a comprehensive campaign in the 1990s and $15 million in a follow-up capital campaign to build the Landrum Bolling Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and Social Sciences in 2000-01. The first necessary steps toward a future campaign are being taken with a view to publicly launch a comprehensive initiative in early 2020. Giving to Earlham College has varied from $8.7 to $10.8 million per year over the last four fiscal years. Support of the Earlham Fund, the College s annual fund, has varied from $1.5 to $1.8 million. In 2015, the College began a successful annual 24-hour giving day, Earlham Day. In 2016, Earlham Day raised more than $470,000 through 1,275 gifts, with the majority benefiting the Earlham Fund. LAMBERT & ASSOCIATES EARLHAM COLLEGE 3

As of June 2016, the Earlham endowment had a market value of $390 million substantial for a small liberal arts college. Although Earlham is fortunate to have a healthy endowment, President Price is focused on growth to ensure the long-term sustainability of the College. Earlham Alumni Earlham College currently has 19,500 living alumni who live in all fifty states and in countries across the globe. Earlham College alumni are represented by an active Alumni Council that convenes twice a year on campus, meets with current Earlham students, and assists with regional alumni events. In addition, alumni serve in volunteer roles on the African American Advisory Board, as Class Chairs, and on reunion planning committees. The Board of Trustees The Earlham College Board of Trustees consists of twenty-four members, a majority of whom must be Quakers. There are four Alumni trustees (including the President of Alumni Council), thirteen at-large positions (six of which must be approved but not appointed by Western Yearly Meeting of Friends), six members appointed by Western Yearly Meeting of Friends, and the President, Ex-Officio.
