Name of Activity: Multiplication and Division Flashcards on Microsoft PowerPoint Description of Activity: Multiplication and Division Flashcards: Using PowerPoint, students will create a set of flashcards using simple multiplication or division facts. This lesson can also be adapted for Vocabulary Flashcards. Student Portfolio Work Sample: All completed flashcards shown in Slide Sorter View, either printed or saved to the grade level share drive. Core Curricular Area: Math State Standards: Number Sense 1.0, 2.2 Information Literacy Standards: Standards 2, 3, 6 Resources: None Lesson: Pre-activity: Students will create a list of multiplication or division facts which they will take with them to the computer lab. Computer-based activity: 1. Students will need to take a copy of Microsoft PowerPoint Student Directions and the list of multiplication or division facts that were created in class. 2. Direct students to open Microsoft PowerPoint by going to the START button. 3. Click CREATE A NEW PRESENTATION 4. Students will type the content of their slide show in OUTLINE form first. 5. Click OUTLINE Click here This will appear Push ENTER to get a new slide. Grade Level: 3 Page 1 of 5
6. Once students have typed in their text, they can click on the slide and begin to format (change) the font size, color, position, etc. Click here to change fonts, backgrounds, etc. 7. To view slide show go to SLIDE SHOW in the tool bar and click VIEW SHOW. 8. Pushing the SPACE BAR will advance the slides. Grade Level: 3 Page 2 of 5
9. Pushing ESC will take the students out of the slide show and back to the screen where they can edit their slides. 10. To Delete unwanted slides go to EDIT in the tool bar and click DELETE SLIDE. 11. TO PRINT Go to VIEW in the tool bar and click SLIDE SORTER This changes the view so all slides will be on one page. Go to FILE in the tool bar and click PRINT. When the print box appears, click OK. 12. To save the slide show to a floppy disk, start by inserting a 3½ inch disk into the A Drive. 13. Go to FILE in the tool bar and click SAVE AS. 14. When the SAVE AS box comes up you will need to change <<MY DOCUMENTS>> to 3 ½ FLOPPY A by going to the drop down arrows next to <<MY DOCUMENTS>>. 15. To save the document to the grade level share drive, go to FILE and click SAVE AS. 16. Locate the share drive and the appropriate grade level folder in the drop down menu. Grade Level: 3 Page 3 of 5
17. Once you located the correct location to save the file and before clicking the SAVE button, you will need to give it a name. Simply type something in the FILE NAME BOX. 18. Now click SAVE. 19. When the green light turns off and you have closed down the program, eject the disk.
