To create a new quiz: Click on the Quizzes tool in the course navigation tool bar. Click on the +Create a New Quiz button in the upper right-hand corner of the Quizzes page.
Add the quiz details to the Quiz Options on the right side of the screen. You can add/edit the quiz title, assignment group, shuffle answers, set the time limit and lock and/or restrict the quiz times here. Add the Quiz Instructions in the Edit Quiz text box. Introduce your quiz with formatted text, images, video or sample questions/equations. You can even use the media commenting tool to record an introduction to the quiz.
Option #1 - Manually Create a New Question To manually create a new question, click on the +New Question link. Select the type of question you want to add from the drop down menu.
Type in your question text and the question responses. A green arrow indicates the correct response. You can move the green arrow to whichever response you d like by hovering over the response and clicking on the ghosted green arrow to the left of the text. Red indicates incorrect responses.
Option #2 - Copy Individual Questions from Existing Question Banks To add questions from an existing question bank, click on the Find Questions link. Note: You will see all of the Question Banks that you have built in other courses where you are the Instructor. You may also see Question Banks that have been added by your administrator to your sub-account. This makes it easy for instructors in the same department or program to share resources. Note: When you are using Question Banks, make sure to make changes within the Question Bank before bringing the questions into the quiz. The quiz should be your final product.
On the left side of the Find Quiz Questions to Add window, select the question bank you want. On the right side, check the boxes for the questions you wish to use. If using a Quiz Group, specify the group. Click on the Add Questions button to add your questions. You can select all questions by clicking on the option for Select All. Individual questions will appear in your quiz that you can edit and group. Canvas will reference the questions you chose as each student takes the quiz. These questions will stay in sequential order and
stay in order each time the quiz is taken or previewed. Be sure to make changes within the Question Bank before bringing the questions into the quiz. The quiz should be your final product. Note: If there are more questions to be displayed, you must click on more questions to display the entire question list before choosing Select All. Option #3 - Create a New Question Group using Manually Created Questions To create a question group using manually created questions, click on the +New Question Group link.
Name the Question Group. Decide how many questions you want Canvas to randomly select from the group and the number of points assigned to each question. Click Create Group. Add new questions into the Question Group by clicking on the green + icon to manually add new questions or by dragging in existing questions in from your quiz. To drag a question into a group, click on the double arrow at the upper left-hand corner of a question. Drag and drop the question into the question group.
Edit group details by clicking on the pencil icon. Option #4 - Link Question Group to a Question Bank To link question groups to a question bank, click on the New Question Group link.
Name the Question Group. Decide how many questions you want Canvas to randomly select from the group and the number of points assigned to each question. Click on the Create Group button to save the group. Click on the link for Link to Question Bank.
Click on the Question Bank you want to use and then click on the Select Bank button. To save the Question Group click on the Create Group button. Before saving the group, double-check that you have selected the correct question bank. Canvas will reference this bank of questions as each student takes the quiz. Each student will get a random number of questions pulled from the bank. These questions will not be in sequential order and will be random each time the quiz is taken or previewed. Be sure to make changes within the Question Bank before bringing the questions into the quiz. The quiz should be your final product.
How to Save a Quiz Be sure to save your work before exiting your quiz. To save, click on the Save Settings button. How to Publish & Re-publish a Quiz Always review your quiz before publishing for students. To publish a quiz for student view, open the quiz editor and click on the Publish Quiz button.
You will need to republish the quiz each time you edit or make changes. To re-publish a quiz after editing, open the quiz editor and click on the Re-Publish Quiz button. How to Edit a Quiz Click on the Quizzes tool. Click on the link for the quiz you wish to edit.
Open the quiz editor by clicking on the Edit this Quiz button.
Hover over the question you want to edit and click on the pencil icon to edit it. Remember to save your changes and re-publish your quiz the when you are finished. If you want to notify users of changes, check the box next to Notify Users the Quiz has Changed and Canvas will message everyone for you.
