1 General Information Admission is on the basis of NID s method of selection, which extends beyond the students previous academic qualifications. The process of Admission to NID for B.Des. and M.Des. programmes consists of three stages: Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Stage 2: Studio Test Stage 3: Personal Interview The objective of the admission process is to seek evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation essential in a potential design student. Design Aptitude Test (DAT) shall be conducted at various test centres in cities across India (refer section 8). Candidates should note that, mere appearance in DAT 2016 or being in the rank list neither guarantees nor provides any automatic entitlement to admission. Based on the scores obtained in DAT (stage 1), shortlisted candidates for B.Des. and M.Des. will have to appear for the stage 2 and 3 exams of the admissions process, at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar campuses. Based on the scores obtained in DAT, shortlisted candidates for GDPD (NID Vijayawada) may have to appear for a second round of exams as announced separately by NID Vijayawada. For detailed information about the GDPD programme offered at NID Vijayawada, please refer to the prospectus. The Institute has the sole prerogative to decide the procedures for each admissions cycle. With regard to the interpretation of the provisions on any matter not covered in this Information Brochure, the decision of NID shall be final and binding on all the parties concerned. It will be the sole responsibility of the candidate to provide the correct information during the application process. NID has the right to cancel, at any stage, the application or admission of a candidate in accordance with the rules and regulations in force, if it is found that any information provided by the candidate is not true. 3 Bachelor of Design (B.Des) The four (4) years Bachelor of Design programme at NID s Ahmedabad campus is offered in the following areas of specialization: Faculty of Industrial Design 1. Textile Design ( seats) Successful candidates admitted to NID s B.Des. programme will have to undergo a mandatory foundation programme of one (1) year duration. Allotment of a discipline of choice at the end of the foundation programme is based solely on the student s performance and on the number of seats available in the desired discipline. Number of seats in Bachelor of Design (including reserved categories) is 100. Prescribed percentage of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to various reserved categories as per the norms of the Government of India. 4 Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Design All candidates applying for Bachelor of Design programmes must fulfil the following criteria. CRITERION 1 - AGE LIMIT Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years of age (relaxable by three years for reserved category) on or before July 1, 2016. General Category applicants: Candidates born on or before July 1, 1996 are not eligible. Reserved Category applicants (OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PH): Candidates born on or before July 1, 1993 are not eligible. CRITERION 2 - EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION Applications for Academic Year 2016-17 is open to applicants who have passed or will appear for the qualifying examinations under the higher secondary (10+2) from any recognized Board of Education such as AISSCE/IB/ICSE, or equivalents, during the academic year 20-16. Examinations considered as equivalent to class XII are: The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by theassociation of Indian Universities (www.aiuweb.org). Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defense Academy. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects. Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). H.S.C. vocational examination. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. High School Certificate Examination of Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva. Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination, conducted in India. Aspiring candidates can apply to a maximum of only two disciplines for the Master of Design program. Applications are received to a specific discipline only and are not transferable at any stage of the admissions process, of during the course of study at NID. 6 Eligibility Criteria for Master of Design All candidates applying for Master of Design programmes must fulfill the following criteria: CRITERION 1 AGE LIMIT Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years of age (relaxable by three years for reserved category) on or before July 1, 2016. General category applicants: Candidates born before on or before July 1, 1986 are not eligible. Reserved category applicants (OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PH): Candidates born on or before July 1, 1983 are not eligible. CRITERION 2 EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION Applications for Academic Year 2016-17 is open to applicants who have successfully passed any one of the following qualifying exams in 20: Bachelors degree in any discipline under the 10+2+4 (or more) system, from any university or institute recognized (by law) in India. Bachelors degree in any discipline under the 10+2+3 system, from any university or institute recognized (by law) in India, with a one year experience or further academic qualifications. Diploma in Design under the 10+2+4 system, from any university or institute recognized (by law) in India. PLEASE NOTE: In case Degree/Certificate has been obtained from a University/ Board of any other country, then an equivalence certificate must be obtained by the candidate from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, www. aiuweb.org prior to admission. 7 Overseas Category Foreign Nationals (applicants holding citizenship of any country other than Republic of India) are eligible to apply under the Overseas category. Fifteen () percent supernumerary seats in B.Des. and M.Des. programmes are created for Overseas Category. Candidates applying under the overseas category for admission into B.Des. or M.Des. programmes at NID will have to apply online on the official Admissions website (http://admissions.nid.edu) only as per the schedule announced. Candidates applying in the Overseas category (supernumerary seats) applying for either B.Des or M. Des. will have to appear for their DAT only in Ahmedabad, immediately followed by Stage 2 and Stage 3 exams. The detailed schedule will be intimated to the candidates. The Hall tickets will be available on the admissions website as per schedule announced. It is the responsibility of the candidate to download and print the relevant Hall ticket(s). Successful candidates will be offered admission to NID based on the final merit list of Overseas Category, prepared after completion of all the 3 stages of admissions process. To accept the offer of admission to NID, the overseas candidates will have to appear in person at the respective campus of NID, during registration as per the schedule. Candidates will be required to produce attested copies and original documents as under: An attested copy of the relevant pages of their passport containing details of the applicant. For B.Des. candidates: Attested copies of marksheets of equivalent grades/ levels of SSC and HSC (those who are studying presently in HSC, must submit a bonafide certificate from school/ college). For M.Des. candidates: Attested copies of marksheets of equivalent grades/ levels of SSC, HSC, completed years of graduation and degree certificate/ provisional certificate/ passing certificate. An equivalence certificate must be obtained by the candidate from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, www.aiuweb.org prior to admission. Student visa for the duration of course at NID will have to be obtained by the candidate before the commencement of the programme. Page 10 of 22. Admission 2016-17_INFORMATION BOOKLET. If the selected candidates do not pay the fees or fail to produce valid documents on the day of registration, or decline the admission offer, their application will stand cancelled. 8 Design Aptitude Test All candidates applying for B.Des., GDPD and M.Des. programmes and having made the necessary payment for registration online will be called for the Design Aptitude Test. There will be ONE question paper of 3 hours duration. The question paper will be in English. The question paper will carry a total of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of both objective and subjective type questions. Design Aptitude Test (DAT) for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) from 10am to 1pm on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Design Aptitude Test (DAT) for Master of Design (M.Des.) from 10am to 1pm on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Design Aptitude Test (DAT) for Graduate Programme in Design (GDPD) for NID Vijayawada from 10am to 1pm on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Test Centres for Design Aptitude Test Design Aptitude Test will be conducted in the following cities in India: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Ranchi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Vijayawada. Candidates applying in the Overseas category (supernumerary seats) applying for either B.Des or M.Des. will have to appear for their DAT, followed by Stage 2 and Stage 3 exams, in Ahmedabad only. NID reserves the right to add/remove any of these centres and allot a test centre that may not be of the candidate s choice. A city may have more than one test centre. A request for change of a test centre within the same city/town will NOT be permitted. Based on the scores obtained in DAT, shortlisted candidates for GDPD (NID Vijayawada) may have to appear for a second round of exams as announced separately by NID Vijayawada. 9 Studio Tests and Interviews Based on the scores obtained in DAT (Stage 1), candidates will be shortlisted and called for the Studio Test (Stage 2) and Personal Interviews (Stage 3). Persons with Disability (PwD) Three (3) percent horizontal reservation of seats from the parent category in each programme cutting across all sections i.e. SCs, STs, OBCs (Non-Creamy only) and General category. 13 Residential Facilities Ahmedabad Campus Hostel accommodation is available for B.Des. students ONLY at NID s campus in Ahmedabad. Hostel accommodation for B.Des students at the Ahmedabad campus is provided for seven (7) semesters only. Hostel accommodation is NOT available for M.Des. students at the Ahmedabad campus. M.Des students enrolled on Master s programmes at the Ahmedabad campus are required to arrange their accommodation outside of campus on their own. Bengaluru Campus Hostel accommodation is NOT available for M.Des students at the Bangalore campus. 14 Announcement of Results Based on the scores obtained in DAT (stage 1), separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category (General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST & PH). Shortlisted candidates will be called for the Studio Test (Stage 2) and Personal Interviews (stage 3). Number of candidates shortlisted for Stage 2 & Stage 3: From the total number of applicants who have appeared for DAT, the Number of candidates to be called for Stage 2 and Stage 3 of the exam will be calculated as no less than 3 X N where N stands for number of seats in that category for that programme or discipline. (refer to table in section 10 of this booklet). (For example, In B.Des., for 50 seats in General category, no less than 0 candidates will be called in order of merit. In an M.Des. discipline with total seats, for 8 seats in General category, no less than 24 candidates in that category will be called in order of merit. In an M.Des. discipline with total 10 seats, for 5 seats in General category, 25 candidates in that category will be called in order of merit. Likewise, candidates in each category will be called based on number of available seats in that category). If the total marks scored by two or more candidates in DAT (Stage 1) are same, they will be assigned the same rank. Final Merit List The final merit list for B.Des. programme will be generated category wise, based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate in each stage of the admissions process. The final merit list for each discipline of M.Des. programme will be generated category wise, based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate in each stage of the admissions process. Relaxation in Cut-Off scores for candidates in reserved categories Based on the available number of seats, the top ranking candidates will be offered admissions in the first merit list. The score of the last candidate in the first merit list for general category will be considered as cut off score for General category. Based on this, relaxation in the cut-off scores of candidates in reserved categories will be as follows: OBC-NCL 10% less than cut off score of General category SC ST 20% less than cut off score of General category 20% less than cut off score of General category PH 30% less than cut off score of General category Separate, category wise list of Waitlisted candidates shall be prepared in order of merit. Requests for re-evaluation or reassessment of test paper/answer book will be restricted to verification of (i) checking whether all the answers have been examined, (ii) that there is no mistake in the totalling of marks for each question in that test, and (iii) transferring marks correctly on the first cover page of the answer book. Acceptance of Admission Successful candidates will be offered admission to NID based on the final category wise, merit list, prepared after completion of all the 3 stages of admissions process. To accept the offer of admission to NID, the candidates will have to appear in person at respective campuses. Candidates will be required to produce original documents (educational qualification and relevant caste or disability certificate in the prescribed format as applicable) for verification, and pay the required fees. If the selected candidates do not pay the fees or fail to produce valid documents on the day of registration, or decline their offer of admission, their application will stand cancelled. NID has the right to cancel, at any stage, the application or admission of a candidate in accordance with the rules and regulations in force, if it is found that any information provided by the candidate is not true, or unable to provide the necessary valid documents. On non-payment of fees or non-submission of required documents as per the schedule, the admission offer will stand cancelled. Vacant seats will then be offered to the waitlisted candidates in order of merit in the respective category, as per the schedule.
