United Church Moderator Marion Pardy made extensive use of the term during her time as moderator. There are a number of versions of holy manners. John Neff 10:00 a.m. St. John s United Church, Alliston Welcome Rev. Dennis Posno welcomed everyone to the meeting. Constitution of the Court In the name of Jesus the Christ, the only head of our church, I constitute this meeting of the executive of in Toronto Conference for any business that may properly come before it. Devotions Ann Harbridge, DLM, led us in worship, a meditation on Thanksgiving. Opening Motions: 1) Approval of Agenda: by Rev. Kent Ward / Ann Harbridge, DLM that the agenda for the October 3, 2017 meeting of the Executive of Northern Waters Presbytery be accepted as circulated with permission to adjust as needed. 2) Approval of the notes from the September 5, 2017 Executive Meeting by Ann Harbridge, DLM / Rev. Kent Ward that the Executive of accept the notes of the meeting held September 5, 2017 as circulated. 3) Approval of the minutes from the September 6, 2017 Executive Meeting by Janet Iles / Judy Chalmers that the Executive of Northern Waters Presbytery approve the minutes of the meeting held September 6, 2017 as circulated. 4) Correspondence Boundary Commission creation from Rev. Jody Maltby, Executive Secretary Toronto Conference. Reports and Motions 1) Education & Students - no report

October 3, 2017 Executive 17/18-4 2) Program (Cassie Vermeer-Korittko) on behalf of Commission Chair, Janet Jones ii. iii. iv. i. Camp Simpresca: Campership was up. They budgeted for 480 and 509 registered. They are excited about doing the work for the PTCC grant and are working diligently towards the April deadline. We'll be in touch with Governance as we continue to support the camp board. Youth Programs: Sep 24: Regional Youth Group went canoeing amazing turnout Oct 27-29: Niagara Youth Festival (registration due Oct 4th) Nov 19: Regional Youth Group assemble breakfast bags for Ronald McDonald House. Jan 26-28: Winter Camping with Moderator (info coming soon) Peace & Justice: Looking for 5 congregations who are willing to work with and host GO Project VBS through the month of July. Cost per congregation is $950 and each participant will pay $100 registration fee. Program Commission has budgeted to cover the congregational cost to encourage participation. The VBS is for children in grades 2 thru 7. This is a locally mission-based VBS, exploring needs in the community and helping out. Women's Ministry Network: Togetherness Day is Oct 4 th. Next Presbyterial is at High Country United (Camilla) and the speaker will be from the recent Open Hands United Missions trip to Nicaragua. v. Open Hands United Missions: We will meet with Rev. Pat McDonald to talk about the next youth trip and possibly a conference-wide trip for young adults. vi. Affirm task group -not able to attend this meeting and an invitation will be extended to attend our next meeting. vii. Total Program Budget Request $28,300 3) Governance Commission (Rev. Kent Ward), The Commission met last month They passed the technology grant for Holland Centre United Church and the request has gone to General Council. Mission Support interviews have happened and will be considered by the Mission Support Consultation. They have PTCC grants to consider and if approved will be brought to the November plenary. The full budget will be looked at and will be presented at the November Plenary. They are also considering covering everyone s meals at Presbytery meetings in 2018.

October 3, 2017 Executive 17/18-6 4) Congregational Life Commission (Ann Harbridge, DLM) At last month s executive meeting the Commission was asked to name someone to attend the Fresh Start training. There were several interested and Rev. Kristal McGee was chosen after an interview. Fresh Start has been adapted for the United Church for new relationships, conflict management, etc. They are experiencing increasing number of requests to dip into manse funds to help with general expenses. Pastoral Charges need permission to use these funds. Mono Mills, Ajdala and Hockley pastoral charges have recently amalgamated. The new name is Trillium United Church and they are meeting at the former Mono Mills site. Janet Marshall, from TUCC is doing a branding for a community faith at the November 4 th event. They are still working on cooperative ministries. Their priorities during the next 15 months include the following: next month they will look at each of the pastoral charges and see where they are at with their mission articulation; they still need a hub; they want to get listening teams established and they want to have an archive of learnings. 5) TC Executive (Rev. Thérèse Samuel) - no report 6) Nominations: Rev. John Neff indicated that we still need conference interview committee people. New Business: 1) Appointment to Conference Interview Committee Rev. Colin MacDonald by Rev. Kent Ward / Judy Chalmers that the Northern Waters Presbytery Executive appoint Rev. Colin MacDonald to the Conference Interview Committee. 2) Moving Forward through 2018 We are looking at having as part of our plenary meetings time to determine what is valuable to people during this period of transitioning. Rev. John Neff will provide the lead on this and use the appreciative inquiry process. 3) E&S Chair election -- by Judy Chalmers / Cassie Vermeer-Korittko that, in light of the resignation of Rev. Chair Hird as chair of the Education & Students Commission, that Northern Waters Executive appoint Rev. Maj. Neil Parker as acting chair of the Education & Students Commission and that his name be brought forward for election as Education & Student Commission Chair at the November plenary meeting.
