The 5 Pathways

A brief overview of each of the languages pathways: Pink Excelling This pathway leads to a GCSE Grade 9 Students on this pathway have demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of all concepts and skills in a unit of work. Yellow Secure This pathway leads to GCSE Grades 7 & 8 Students on this pathway have grasped the main concepts and skills in a unit of work and can apply to new contexts. Blue Approaching This pathway leads to GCSE Grades 5 & 6 Students on this pathway have a secure understanding of the main concepts and skills when applied to familiar contexts. Lilac Developing This pathway leads to GCSE Grade 4 Students on this pathway have grasped most of the main concepts and skills in a unit of work, and is approaching 'Secure'. Green Emerging This pathway leads to GCSE Grade 3 Students on this pathway have grasped some of the main ideas and skills in a unit of work, others require development.

Building on Primary Languages The success criteria on the next 3 pages applies to French and Spanish, where many students will have had some experience of studying these languages at primary school.
