About the Faculty of Health The Faculty s vision, to enable people and communities to create a healthy future for the real world, will be achieved through the delivery of world class teaching and research combined with productive and sustainable partnerships. The Faculty operates across three campuses and several distributed sites and comprises seven schools: Biomedical Sciences Clinical Sciences Exercise and Nutrition Sciences Nursing Optometry and Vision Science Psychology and Counselling Public Health and Social Work Health is one of QUT s largest faculties with nearly 600 Higher Degree Research students and approximately 10,000 coursework students enrolled across seventy courses. Approximately half of the Faculty s 1,200 international students are enrolled in its undergraduate degrees. Our students have access to state-of-the-art learning spaces such as the newly refurbished 150-seat biomedical teaching laboratory at Gardens Point Campus and the Faculty s teaching clinics (QUT Health Clinics) based at the Kelvin Grove campus. The Faculty s strength will continue to grow through its partnership with QUT s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI). Working together, the Faculty and IHBI engage researchers in large scale programmatic activities allowing research to be undertaken at scale to address current and future global challenges. IHBI s researchers focus on three broad areas: prevention, intervention, and translation. Interdisciplinary research is conducted across three themes: Injury Prevention and Trauma Management Health Determinants and Health Systems Chronic Disease and Ageing 1 P age

About the School of Public Health and Social Work The School of Public Health and Social Work, one of seven Schools in the Faculty of Health, is a dynamic and progressive School that has an excellent reputation for high quality teaching, research and service. There are four disciplines in the School including Social Work and Human Services; Health Management; Public Health and Health Safety and Environment (HSE). The School delivers courses and research that respond to the demand for better public health services, the promotion of better health and wellbeing, the promotion of social justice and human rights, improved promotion, prevention and treatment of disease and illness and policy development to achieve healthier, fairer, more inclusive societies. Our courses are grounded in real-world practice and are designed to provide opportunities to study across diverse fields. The School has a large number of PhD and Masters by Research students. The qualifications and industry experience of our academic staff are of the highest calibre. Many public health staff have held executive leadership positions in government and our social work staff are recognised social researchers, social activists, and welfare lobbyists. We enjoy partnerships with governments, communities, universities, and health organisations in Australia and overseas. Our students, staff and graduates take part in influential research projects and collaborations with the broader community and contribute to a number of international projects. We also facilitate the development of professional competence by providing Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) to corporations, industry and government in Australia and overseas. CPE provides flexible access to a range of workshops, short courses, and customised education programs. About the Position The successful candidate will lead an exciting and vibrant School that is well connected locally, nationally and internationally. Sustaining and enriching partnerships is a key element of the Head of School position, consistent with the Faculty of Health strategy, Real Health Matters. Our strategic priorities include a stronger integration of learning, teaching, research and service and advancing inter-professional education within the Faculty. The appointee will liaise extensively with staff across the University as well as with relevant external government, industry, community and professional representatives. The role is responsible to the Executive Dean, Faculty of Health. Performance expectations will be clearly outlined as part of the performance planning and review process. Included in this will be the expectation to manage and lead academic staff performance within the school. Key responsibilities Strategic and operational management of the School. Provide leadership for and promote excellence in the University's teaching, research and external relations activities as they relate to the School. Foster and develop a strong leadership team and high performance culture. Support staff to transform learning and teaching in line with the QUT s Real World Learning 2020 Vision. Drive digital transformation. Strengthen the quality and impact of research through industry and international partnerships. Strengthen the sustainability of the School through future workforce planning; ensuring resource allocations align with priorities, and the broadening of the School s revenue base. Manage all human resources, administrative and budgetary issues within the School. 2 P age

Increase the employability of graduates and maximise graduate and professional education opportunities. Lead staff to strengthen partnering relationships with industry and the community to enable collaborative activities in teaching, research, professional education, and consulting. Implement continuous improvement, quality assurance, and risk management activities. Implement and administer University policy with respect to equitable access to education and workplace health and safety. The successful candidate will be appointed as a Professor. To be appointed as a Professor the successful candidate must meet the positon classification standards outlined in the QUT Enterprise Agreement (Academic Staff). Highly developed leadership ability as demonstrated by success in achieving objectives and in contributing to improved organisational performance. 2. Demonstrated experience in leadership and management of large-scale teams, facilities and resources and impactful innovation. 3. Substantial skills in promoting and fostering collaborative interdisciplinary endeavours and to build parnterships. 4. Evidence of development of effective responses to contemporary issues in higher education and health. 5. High level communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build positive team culture and effectively interact with a range of staff in a complex operating environment. 6. Sound knowledge of equal employment opportunity and equity principles and of the principles of workplace health and safety with a demonstrated commitment to implementation at both the strategic and operational levels.
