CAMBRIDGE CENTRE FOR SIXTH-FORM STUDIES Cambridge Centre for Sixth-form Studies (CCSS) is an established and leading boarding school, providing both day and boarding places, located in the heart of Cambridge. We provide tuition programmes for young people aged 15 19 and aim to ensure for each student the highest possible level of achievement. Summer School at CCSS The Summer School at CCSS is a perfect all round introduction for international students into what it s like to live and study at a boarding school in the UK. The programme is also designed to boost language skills with daily intensive language, developed for students who have as a second language. It runs over two weeks and CCSS delivers a personal tailor-made experience for each student, blending expert language teaching and the very best introduction to subject lessons with fantastic cultural, social and sporting activities.
KEY FEATURES OF OUR ACADEMIC SUMMER SCHOOL Language and Classes CCSS Summer School programmes are designed to boost your language skills. You will study each morning and then have a choice of three different academic courses in the afternoon. You will have 25 hours of language tuition and 18 hours of academic. Experienced and Skilled Tutors Our academic subject tutors are skilled, experienced and highly qualified specialists and the depth of their knowledge is exceptional. Small Class Sizes Our academic subject are taught in small groups (7-8 students) which ensures a friendly and very personal experience. Superb Teaching Facilities Our buildings have well-equipped and comfortable classrooms and excellent facilities for each course offered. Our IT provision consists of superfast broadband providing secure filtered access over hard wired and wifi networks with no data limit. Live and Study in the Centre of Cambridge Located in the heart of Cambridge, a world famous centre for teaching, learning and culture. All teaching and residential buildings are within walking distance of each other. ACADEMIC SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMME CCSS Summer School programmes are designed to boost your language skills. Students study each morning and then follow one of three different academic courses in the afternoon. Language Classes The morning language focus on teaching as a Second Language and are designed to give students greater communication skills and a wide range of vocabulary. Classes The academic in the afternoon focus on both practical and academic aspects of each subject. There is a choice of three subject areas, which include: Mathematics and Science Psychology Business and Economics. Activities and Excursions Students will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of fun-filled activities both in Cambridge and further afield including a two-day, one-night residential activity trip. STUDYING AND LIVING IN CAMBRIDGE We are based in the heart of Cambridge, a world-famous centre of excellence for teaching, learning and culture. Cambridge is a wonderfully vibrant, open and safe city to study in. Famous for its architecture and heritage, cosmopolitan population and sense of community, the city has a unique and relaxing atmosphere that makes it the ideal place to learn and experience life and culture in the UK. Travel links from Cambridge are excellent, London is 50 minutes by train while Stansted Airport is just 30 minutes by train. Teaching facilities Our teaching sites are located in the centre of Cambridge, only a ten minute walk from our boarding house, and we have well-equipped and comfortable classrooms and excellent facilities for each course offered. Our teaching buildings include specialist laboratories for sciences and well-equipped, bright study rooms. Out IT provision consists of superfast broadband providing secure filtered access over hard wired and wifi networks with no data limit. Accommodation Students will stay at Hope House, located on one of the most sought-after roads in Cambridge, Brooklands Avenue, overlooking the famous University of Cambridge Botanic Gardens. There is a private dining room and a large common room, which is welcoming and comfortable, with TV, gaming stations and snack-making facilities. Two house managers live on site throughout the two-week course and are on call every hour of the day and night to provide support, care and advice. They also escort students to and from the boarding house and teaching sites. Hope House has its own dedicated kitchen which provides breakfast and dinner in the dining room. A vegetarian choice is always offered and other dietary requirements can be catered for. Packed lunches are provided during the week and there is a weekly barbeque.
FEES AND HOW TO APPLY The cost of the two-week Summer School course is 2,500 and includes boarding and all meals. The two-week course fee includes: return airport transfer from London Heathrow (LHR) or London Stansted (STN) on arrival dates 25 hours of language tuition 18 hours of academic evening activity programme including sports activities, tenpin bowling, cinema and punting two afternoon activities to places of interest a one night, two day residential activity holiday London sightseeing and shopping trip residential accommodation in single bedrooms three meals per day with an evening snack 24 hour supervision and welfare.
