Dear Prospective MA CEEBS Student, The Chinese-European Economics and Business Studies programme is truly an international programme, with teaching locations in Germany and China and an international group of students. The programme is based on the pillars of business administration, economics, and culture studies, including languages. It offers excellent opportunities for work in the expanding field of international management, economics, and politics with a special focus on Europe and China. Prof. Dr. Jennifer Pédussel Wu Professor of Economics, particularly for International Commerce and Production Academic Director MA Chinese-European Economics and Business Studies

Master Chinese-European Economics and Business Studies Gaining a Profound Insight into Chinese-European Business and Intercultural Exchange The Master in Chinese-European Economics and Business Studies (MA CEEBS) offers a course of studies directly concerned with the core issues for companies and institutions working in a Chinese-European business environment. China s rapid economic development, its integration into the world economy, as well as its significance to the global economy, are challenging the development and competitiveness of companies and institutions at both the national and the international level. In an intercultural setting, we will explore and investigate the major factors of economic developments in China and Europe, analysing such aspects as trade relations and financial flows, and the social and economic interrelations between these two regions. The majority of the modules in the Master s programme include a comparative Chinese-European perspective. In addition to this cross-cultural learning and teaching environment, the programme also includes a mandatory semester at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, P. R. China. The Master of Chinese-European Economics and Business Studies has been approved by the Berlin government entitling the Berlin School of Economics and Law to grant the internationally accredited»master of Arts«(MA) degree. The MA is recognised as a qualification allowing admission to PhD programmes and senior civil service positions in the public administration sector. Programme Outline The Master in Chinese-European Economics and Business Studies (CEEBS) provides a springboard for a future career as a specialist or executive manager in a Chinese-European oriented business, in economics, or in politics. The Master s programme takes two years in total. It begins in September and ends two years later when students present their Master s Thesis. The programme is divided into four semesters. The first two semesters are spent at the Berlin School of Economics and Law. The third semester takes place at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. The fourth semester includes the writing of the Master s Thesis. The Master s programme is taught entirely in English. Contents The Master s programme comprises three parts: the first part builds and extends expertise in International Business and Economics, the second focuses on Chinese-European Business and Economics, and the third is dedicated to Cultural Studies and Language Learning. GERMAN-CHINESE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME 30 years ago the Berlin School of Economics and Law and the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) established their partnership. It represents a pioneer of international cooperation and was one of the first collaborations in the field of economics. Professor and student exchanges at both universities are enhanced by joint research projects, publications and conferences. All core courses are given in a seminar style, using a wide range of case studies, presentations, and discussions to provide an in-depth review of the material under consideration. All courses have continual assessment or end with an exam as specified in the examination regulations (e. g. written exam, assignment, presentation, oral exam). Course achievement is documented and measured in credit points in line with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The entire programme is worth 120 credit points. Leadership Skills Development and Language Learning In the Chinese-European business environment, MA CEEBS graduates are expected to have business theory expertise and know how to apply management techniques. Today s executives are increasingly expected to have a broader view of economic and social development as well as excellent leadership competencies and language abilities. The Leadership Skills Development programme and Language Learning are structured around seminars designed to develop personal competences including language skills. Graduates Ramona Blietz, MA 2015, AUDI AG»I really liked the hands-on mentality of the programme and of all the professors, who could incorporate their work experience in lectures. It was especially fun and challenging to work with Chinese classmates in an international atmosphere on a daily basis. Working for an international automotive company with China activities, my degree supports my daily work with Chinese partners. Especially parts of lectures»strategic management«and»asian management«have a big influence on my work. My Chinese language skills, acquired mostly during my time at SWUFE, help me to communicate with our Chinese partners.«luo Hao, MA 2015, Wanxiang Finance Co., Ltd.»Being born and bred in China, I believe it is in my best interest to do a comparative study in the field of business-economics and gain insight into both Chinese and European business methodology and economic development as well as the correlations between these two geo-political regions. Along with all the sincere recommendations from numerous previous participants, I chose MA CEEBS. I found it extremely rewarding. For one thing, I became more open to both people and ideas. I got better adapted to working in an international environment. Also, I grew more active not only in classes but in extra-curricular activities as well. Recently, I have reflected on how to incorporate my learnings in MA CEEBS in my future career. I know well about the gap between knowledge. Yet fortunately, this programme has offered numerous company visits and alumni homecomings to bridge that gap.«aydan Baghirova, MA 2016, Lackwerke Peters GmbH & Co. KG»After I finished my studies in China, I decided to get a master s degree in Germany because German education is renown worldwide for its high quality. In addition to my education with a focus on Chinese language and studies, I was determined to acquire additional knowledge on Business, Economics, and Finance. In this context, after a yearly process of screening through all German universities I found the CEEBS programme to be the best option for me. Also, I really wanted to find a programme that included a compulsory semester abroad in China.«8 Berlin Professional School
