Goldsberry, PhD NASPA IV-E, Region Director Report for the December 2016 Board of Directors Meeting Submitted, November 10, 2016 NASPA Board Action Items None at this time Leadership & Member Engagement Region Director Kimberlie Goldsberry The Regional Advisory Board held monthly calls via Zoom Conference Call System see dates below: Regional Advisory Board Meetings Monthly Conference Call July 8, 2016 Monthly Conference Call August 12, 2016 Monthly Conference Call September 9, 2016 Monthly Conference Call October 14, 2016 The board approved the restructure of the research grants during the October Conference Call. There will now be four monetary awards of the same amount ($1000.00). Two of the awards are for graduate students and two are for professionals. Communications Team Megan Johnson, Mandi Cohen and Michael Allensworth Member Spotlight videos have been collected and being edited now for posting following the regional conference. Technology Coordinator has assisted with getting information loaded into Guidebook for the NASPA IV-WE Conference November 13-17, 2016 1

Several additional volunteer opportunities, including some Knowledge Community Representative Openings and 2017 Regional Committee Planning Team, were posted. Marketing for these opportunities is ongoing in coordination with our Communication team. Membership Coordinator Michael Lango Membership stands at 2,334 as of November 2016. The state coordinators are in the process of supporting NASPA by contacting institutions that have not renewed their membership, and encouraging them to renew or understand why they have not returned to the association. Development Coordinator David Strauss Finalizing plans for the silent auction for charity during the NASPA IV-WE Regional Conference We have secured roughly $30K in sponsorships and advertising for NASPA IV-WE Regional Conference Faculty Council Representative Bill Arnold Completed regional research and assessment grant application cycle with the selection of 3 grant recipients for 2016: o $500 Graduate Student Award: Kyle Ashlee, Miami University of Ohio. Exploring Critical Whiteness Studies in Student Affairs Graduate Programs 2

o $1,500 Individual or Research Team Award: Kari Taylor, The Ohio State University. Contextualizing How Undergraduate Students Develop Toward Critical Consciousness o Scott Gaier, Ph.D. & Alex Crist, Taylor University. Cognitive Maturity in Learning Assessment Established 2016-17 schedule for Online Faculty Forums. Series will feature two web conferences per month, one directed toward program coordinators and one for faculty in general. Recruited members to assist with the virtual ticket for the CLC responsibilities SALT (Student Affairs Leaders of Tomorrow) Meg Haggerty Leadership Attended the June 2016 Region IVWE Conference Planning Meeting in St. Louis Throughout the past 10 months, have collaborated and coordinated the NUFP/SALT Institute for the Region IVWE Conference in November 2016 in St. Louis with members of the Region IVW Board as well as Region IV W & E Conference planning team members. 3

Will implement and host the NUFP/SALT Institute for the NASPA Region IVWE Conference for more than 30 participants (as of 10/28, more participants may register still) in November 2016. Member Engagement More than 30 undergraduate students within Region IVWE will participate in member engagement through the NUFP/SALT Institute for the Region IVWE Conference in November 2016 in St. Louis Goal 1: Promote and sponsor quality professional development to enhance members skills, knowledge and abilities as student affairs leaders. Strategic Plan 1.1: Enhance and increase member engagement and volunteer pathways in leadership and governance throughout the association. Strategic Plan 1.4: Develop, implement, and assess professional development and networking opportunities that address current and emerging issues for all career levels. Recruited graduated students from various Higher Education Student Affairs masters programs to serve as panelists for two different panels for the NASPA Region IVWE NUFP/SALT Institute We have more than 5 different graduate schools represented through our 11 panelists. Strategic Plan 1.1: Enhance and increase member engagement and volunteer pathways in leadership and governance throughout the association. Awards and Exemplary Programs Michael Anthony Member Engagement A team of eight NASPA members plus myself as chair served as the reviewers for the awards. Award Recognition The awards process yielded 35 nominations for all 12 award categories across five U.S. states within the region. This represents an increase in categories, number of submissions, and categories submitted. There were three Research and Assessment Grants awarded, one graduate student, one individual award, and one team award. See details under professional development events section of this report. Member Engagement Contacted people in the region who previously presented at past regional and/or national conference on public policy to encourage submissions for the 2016 and 2017 conferences Professional Standards Division Representative Lisa Brown Cornelius Leadership Invited to serve as a judge for the case study competition at the NASPA IV-WE Conference Knowledge Communities Co-Coordinators Ana Rossetti Leadership Serve on the 2016 4WE Joint Regional Conference planning committee representing KC matters Participate in regular conference calls for: Region IV-East Advisory Board Executive Committee, NASPA KC Coordinators, NASPA KC Leadership In July 2016, KC Co-Coordinator Charles Holmes-Hope accepted a new professional role and left Region IV-East, ending his involvement on the IV-East board Completed the recruitment, selection, and on-boarding of numerous vacant KC Rep roles over the past few months; collaborated with Region Director, Region Director-Elect, and KC Chairs Provided feedback for the NASPA Knowledge Community Task Force to review the structure of the KC program and to assess if it is meeting the needs of NASPA members and the profession as a whole; provided support for the collection of feedback from Region IV-East KC Reps Collaborated with the Region Director-Elect Julie Payne-Kirchmeier on the recruitment of a new KC Co-Coordinator team for Region IV-East KC Reps meeting held October 12, 2016 Reviewed KC Rep engagement and responsibilities toward the 2016 Joint Region 4WE Regional Conference in St. Louis, MO Collecting KC Reps interest in continuing in their role for the 2017-19 term Member Engagement Planning for KC-related activities during the 2016 Joint Region 4WE Regional Conference in St. Louis, MO include: KC Trivia Night & Fair, dedicated educational session block featuring KC minisessions, social meet-ups, and KC sponsored sessions Professional Development & Events Faculty Council Representative Bill Arnold October 11 Online Faculty Forum Program Coordinators 27 Attendees Discussion on working with campus partners Matthew Shupp served as a facilitator Event was recorded to make available to those who could not participate 5

NASPA Region IVWE NUFP/SALT Institute (Pre-conference) November 14 th 15 th, 2016 St. Louis Union Station, St. Louis, Missouri 32 registered participants (as of 10/28, 2016) o more than 3 weeks until the conference date, so we anticipate this number will increase Description of Program o Mentor, educate, and expose current undergraduate students, to include NUFP students as well, to the field of Higher Education and Student Affairs through panel discussions, self and group reflections, as well as group activities and team builders in the hopes of recruiting more Student Affairs Leaders of Tomorrow. Number sessions o Monday, November 14 th 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., 1 hour break, and then optional walking tour of St. Louis from 6:30 7:30 p.m. Utilize Strength s Quest as a foundational language, have participants take the Strength s Finder program and review their Strengths as a part of the program 2 nd year graduate student and new professional panel Lessons learned from undergraduate to graduate student to ne professional Inclusion Activity Names and Titles of Keynote Speaker(s) o Welcome from Conference Coordinators, Jim Hoppe and Shana Meyer to open Institute on Monday morning. o Welcome to NASPA by Dr. Lori White at the conclusion on Tuesday morning.
