Course Structure Units of Study The below units must be successfully completed to graduate from your degree. DDD10001: 20th Century Design This unit investigates the historical development of design in the 20th century. DCO20004: Web Design You will develop an interactive literacy through the design of web pages/sites. Elective Units In addition to your core and major units, you will be required to complete four elective units of your choosing to gain your qualification. DCO10001: Concepts and Narratives You will learn fundamentals of design exploration and conceptualisation for 2D and 3D projects. DCO10002: Digital Design You will explore a variety of software for use in design projects. DCO10003: Packaging Design This unit introduces the principles of packaging design informed by research and design strategy. DCO10004: Photography for Design You will learn basic principles and application of photography in communication, through creative camera controls and techniques. DCO10005: Typography This unit will give you an understanding of typographic forms and conventions. DCO20009: Typography for Print and Interactive Publication You will enhance your typographic knowledge for complex print and interactive publications. DCO10007: Visual Communication Studio This unit explores the relationship between type, image and meaning in visual communication. DCO20001: Brand and Identity Design This unit looks at how brand identities are developed for a specific market. DDD30013: Publication Design This unit explores publication designs and allows you to experiment with innovative designs. DCO30002: Design for Production This unit introduces a range of industry standard production processes. DCO30017: Communication Design Strategy You will develop a communication design strategy from initiation through to design production. COM30001: Communication Design Capstone Project You will work on a collaborative project that draws upon skills developed during the course. DDD30020: Interactive Design for Mobile Devices This unit introduces fundamental design and technical methodologies in designing interactive outcomes for mobile devices. DDD30019: Web Marketing and Advanced Usability The unit aims to provide skills in web design and marketing to digital media design practice. DDD20016: Experience Design and Usability for the Web You will explore the concept of Experience Design in which attention is given to the quality and effectiveness of the user experience of a product. DDD20015: Interactive Design for Web You will learn skills in interaction design for digital media design practice. DDD20004: Contemporary Design Issues This unit explores contemporary design and media practices. 8 9

Fees and Assistance Course Fees Domestic students may be eligible for government fee assistance or have the option to pay course fees upfront. To find out the cost of your course, see our website. Fee Assistance and HELP Loans If you are a domestic student you may be able to take advantage of a government loan scheme to cover your student contribution amount. This payment option is offered as a student loan, allowing eligible students to avoid paying upfront for their studies. There are two types of government loan schemes available, dependent on which type of education you wish to undertake. Undergraduate students may be eligible for a HECS-HELP loan, while postgraduate students may take advantage of a FEE-HELP loan. Eligibility You may gain entry to Swinburne courses in any of the following ways: Completion or partial completion of an approved tertiary qualification. This includes diplomas, advanced diplomas, associate degrees and degrees. Recognition of Prior Education If you are an experienced student and already have a qualification, your prior studies may satisfy part of the academic requirements of the course. This means you may be eligible for academic credit. A minimum of four years work experience. Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or its equivalent, such as an interstate or international Year 12 qualification.
