Press release October 2016 CTM16 QUEBEC Generating engagement in the museum world This autumn, Québec will host Communicating the Museum (CTM), the world s leading arts communications conference. The 17th edition of CTM will take place in Québec City at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, at the Musée de la civilisation and at the Québec City Convention Centre from 15 to 18 November. 200 international leading professionals from the art and museum world will gather to network, engage in stimulating conversations and rethink their institution s model and communication. Spotlight on engagement in the cultural sector For its Québec edition, CTM has chosen to address the theme of Engagement. Today, cultural institutions have to face major shifts in visitor expectations, technologies, education and funding. They are rethinking their model to offer greater interactivity and become more active in the way they engage with audiences and partners. This shift can be found in digital strategies and educational activities and in the way institutions are more open to interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations. At CTM16 Quebec, we will discuss how to engage visitors both on site and online, how to engage your community, how to involve sponsors, how to create meaningful engagement and how to encourage visitors and partners to become advocates. 3 days of conference in Québec City The CTM conference programme covers every aspect of communications: from PR and marketing to branding, partnerships, advertising, and the ever-expanding field of digital media.
The first day of CTM will focus on internal engagement through an interactive Best Practice Training. On 16 November, speakers and participants will discuss the importance of partnerships and new technologies in their engagement strategy. Together, they will evaluate the best tools to target and reach specific audiences. The conference will end with an afternoon dedicated to new models and strategies, looking at future challenges and trends. The panel of 42 local and international speakers includes leaders from the museum and art sector along with media and tech pioneers such as Anne-Laure BEATRIX, Director of External Affairs, Louvre Paris, Chris DENTON, Director of Marketing and Communications, Southbank Centre London, Line OUELLET, Executive Director and Chief Curator, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec Québec and Adam ROZAN, Director of Audience Engagement, Worcester Art Museum, Worcester, MA. 2 days of extension in Montréal For the CTM16 participants wishing to continue to explore the cultural gems of Québec, they can extend their trip by travelling to Montréal on 18 and 19 November. Visits and workshops at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and at The Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal will present the museums communications and exhibitions including La Biennale de Montréal. Icing on the cake, participants will have the opportunity to discover the Cirque du Soleil studios on the afternoon of 19 November. This event is organized with the support and participation of the Société du Centre des congrès de Québec, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec and the Musée de la civilisation.
