How exciting this must be for you and your family. We too, are excited for you and that you have shown an interest in applying for an EBC scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to help with the cost of college expenses (i.e., tuition, room & board and/or books) for graduating high school seniors. To be eligible, you must have applied and/or been accepted to an accredited two or four-year college or university AND be a member of Ebenezer. The enclosed packet contains scholarship guidelines, instructions and the necessary forms that you will need to complete. Please make sure that you carefully read and follow the instructions. All documents must be received in the church office no later than Sunday May 04, 2014. A checklist is included to ensure that your application packet is complete. Scholarship Guidelines I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35 (NKJV) Scholarship Purpose In accordance with its mission, awards a minimum of two educational scholarships based on need AND merit to qualified applicants. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance for books, tuition, and/or fees to high school graduates furthering their education at an institution of higher learning. Who s Eligible? Graduating high school students who have applied and/or been accepted to an accredited two or four-year College or University and enroll in the fall of the same year. The degree must lead to the awarding of an associate s or bachelor s degree. Applicants must be current and active members of. How Are Recipients Selected? All applications and supporting documents are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee. Recommendations for awards will be based on how well applicants met the following criteria: Completed Application (following instructions, neatness, accuracy, etc.) Acceptance Letter(s) from colleges applied to Essay written by the applicant Letters of Recommendation (One each from a current teacher or school counselor and from a church or community service leader) Church Involvement (Regular attendance and participation in youth related auxiliaries or other ministries) Community Service & Educational Achievements Interview with scholarship committee Financial Need (based on other financial awards/scholarships the applicant has been awarded) High School Transcripts All information submitted is CONFIDENTIAL and will not be disclosed. How Do I Apply? Pick up an application packet from the Information Center or via the church website under forms. Complete and return the entire application packet and supporting documents no later than Sunday, May 04, 2014. Incomplete and late packets will not be considered. When Will I Know? Recipients will be notified in writing by June 2, 2014 How Much Will Be Awarded? One non-renewable $1000 scholarship will be awarded to each recipient. How Are Scholarships Issued? Essay Letters of Recommendation (2) Essay must be: Written by the applicant. Typed, using 11 or 12 point font. Maximum of one typed page. Submit two (2) recommendation forms. A current counselor or teacher MUST submit one of the required recommendations. The other recommendation may come from someone who knows you through your church or community involvement within the last two years.
