Assessing & Reporting A Student s Benchmark: Advanced Level Performance System (ALPS) uses students GCSE scores to predict their likely A level results. GCSE grades are worth points under the ALPS system, which in turn are used to establish an average GCSE points score. (A* = 8, A = 7, B = 6, C = 5, D = 4, E = 3) Students calculate a basket of benchmark grades and then negotiate a target grade with their subject teachers. For example, with a BCCC basket of grades a student could agree: English Language = B Sociology = B History = C Physical Education = C
A Student s Benchmark: After every data collection, students will lead an ILP with their tutor, where they will discuss targets and assess progress. Important Points: The basket of grades are targets not ceilings. The target grades are aspirational. The targets are negotiated with subject teachers. The target grades are student owned.
Study Programme and Individual Learning Plans Students study programme is made up of their four subjects studied, their 3 designated supervised study hours and their personal, enrichment, employability and pastoral education(peep). The students study programme is tracked by the various data collection points and their Individual learning Plan, known as their ILP. We monitor the impact of the ILP via an electronic document that allows tutors to record academic performance, future aspirations, work experience (unpaid experience related to your career path and careers interviews), work preparation (part-time employment or voluntary activities completed) and enrichment activities both inside and outside of school.
The Challenges Ahead: Students will be set 4 hours of independent study per subject weekly. This is in addition to supervised study activities. Even when students are not set a particular task, in the Sixth Form the expectation is that they will carry out selfdesignated independent work, whether that be organising their file, reading around their subject areas, taking additional notes or reviewing progress against their PLC and going back over work. The onus to complete this is placed on the student as they will be the ones that suffer should they not meet deadlines.. Two year course, you only get one chance!
How do our students work? 1. Do what is asked of them on time. 2. Review their notes/work each week. 3. Re-do work to bring it up to scratch. 4. Read/watch/listen around the subject. 5. Don t wait to be told to do something they have learning initiative.
How can I support my child? Make sure your son/daughter is in school attendance is vital for success Be supportive and listen Encourage learning news, apps, current affairs Attend all sixth form events, read the Friday bulletin Monitor part time work and Saturday jobs If in doubt, contact us
Expectations Year 12 Students: To be in their tutor room by 8:40am. To be in school all day (even if they are free L1 or L5). To attend all lessons on time. To meet all of their deadlines. To be active learners (In class & independent study). To take pride in their work and in the school. To adhere to the sixth form dress code. To show respect to peers and staff. To be role models (Representing the whole school community). Not litter the Common Room!
