Arkansas Chapter News Association of Legal Administrators March 2010 FROM YOUR CHAPTER PRESIDENT, Julia Strickland... Skyline view of Little Rock, Arkansas When I was little, my mother taught me to write thank you notes. During my college years, I sent thank you notes to the mothers of my out-of-town friends when I visited their homes. Unfortunately, the mothers would complain to their daughters for not possessing the same habit. In fact, one friend would not let me visit her unless I promised not to send her mother a sweet little note! But, the time is right for one now Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as your 2009-10 Arkansas Chapter President of ALA. It has been and continues to be a very exciting and rewarding experience for me both personally and professionally. It amazes me how this organization continues to look toward the future to provide its members with the tools and resources that will help each of us grow in our careers and beyond. I am excited by the commitment of our members and it is rewarding to see how we all unite to address the issues that impact the legal administration profession and the attorneys and staff that we serve. ALA Arkansas Chapter-FEBRUARY Meeting Where: The Little Rock Club Regions Bank Building, 30th Floor Little Rock, AR When: February 10, 2010 Lunch: 11:30 a.m. Meeting: 12:00 Noon Topic: Social Media Speaker: Allen C. Dodson (See article p. 3) Note: Validated parking in the Regions Bank Building parking deck. Once again, I thank you for the special opportunity to serve as your President. I remain grateful for all the lessons I have learned this year. It is an honor to be associated with such an amazing group of professionals, all of whom I consider my friends. Best Regards, Julia

Arkansas Chapter News Page 5 March 2010.A note from the editor: The days go by pretty quickly when you are editing a monthly newsletter. I can t say enough good things about Julia. She is such a great leader, always ready to give assistance and generous with the praise There have been days when I wanted to pull my hair out because I didn t have items to fill up the space and then there were the days when I had too many articles. Thank goodness for Carolyn, she has all the birthdays calendared and I could not have made it without her help. So many pages to fill up, what do I do, what do I do?? For the very first time our Chapter received the Platinum award in the President s Award of Excellence Program. Our small but might Chapter achieved many goals this past year including recruitment and retention, subscriptions, representatives at CLI and timely submission of Chapter President photo. Our Chapter makes a team effort in everything we do and I m proud and honored to say that I am a member of the Arkansas Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrations. This Chapter has been very good to me and for me. I ve had a wonderful time this past year and I hope you ve enjoyed reading at least parts of this News Letter. I take my leave now with this final edition and wish the new edition every success in the coming year. Mary
