Learning Together to be the best we can. N E W S L E T T E R 5 0 7 9 T H D E C E M B E R 2 0 1 6 Dear Parents, It has been lovely to see so many parents/carers and grandparents in school this week at our Christmas concerts. I am sure you will agree that the children all performed brilliantly and behaved impeccably during the concerts - I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them. Mrs Shilton will be beginning her maternity leave today - a week earlier than planned. It has been wonderful having Mrs Shilton here for the last term and I know she will be missed by everyone in school but especially her class. Everyone at Nathaniel Newton would like to wish Mrs Shilton well as she prepares for the birth of her first child and we look forward to welcoming her back in September. Miss Dawn Taylor will be taking over from Mrs Shilton in January and she will be spending the day with the children on Monday getting to know them. Next week will be a busy week in school with the pantomime on Tuesday, Christmas dinner on Wednesday and a visit to the church on Wednesday afternoon. Each year group will be having a party on Friday and also will have the chance to watch a DVD. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the staff in school for all of their hard work this term to make sure that the children have some wonderful learning experiences. A big thank-you to you all as well for the support you give to us in school in many different ways such as, attending events or helping your child with their homework and reading. Don't forget we are still looking for some photographs of children reading in some unusual places. Well done to Will Brennan in 2Ir for bringing in some excellent photographs which are now displayed in the library. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and New Year with family and friends. Mrs Forshew Headteacher

Pantomime Trip Tuesday 13th December Children will be eating their lunch a little later when we return to school but they will be provided with a drink and snack at the theatre. We have now ordered all the children a free packed lunch from school unless you have already told the school office your child will bring their own. School Christmas Lunch - Wednesday 14th December We have now ordered all the children a free Christmas dinner in school unless you have already told the school office your child will bring sandwiches. Arrangements for the last day of term Friday 16th December Christmas Jumper Day and Party Day On Friday 16th December we are having a Christmas Jumper Day. So on the last day of term we would love the children to wear a Christmas themed top or jumper and bring in a donation (suggested 1) for the Save the Children charity. Staff will be joining in too! If your child doesn't own a festive jumper you could tinsel up an ordinary jumper with sequins and snowmen etc. Children can wear non school uniform on their bottom half. On the last day of term the children will be having a party and watching a DVD. Safeguarding 1. In order for staff to see parents clearly at the end of the day, please can I ask that parents wait to collect their child in the bottom half of the playground rather than congregating around the area where the classes come out. This will enable staff to see parents / carers clearly. 2. If someone different is picking up your child, please can you ensure you inform the class teacher in the morning as we are unable to release your child to anyone else without prior consent from parents. If you have an unexpected message for your child s teacher please let the office know before midday if possible as the office is not fully staffed in the afternoon. 3. Please can you ensure children remain on the playground when waiting to come into school in the morning and that you don't let them climb on the trees, run around the log cabin or play on the reception equipment. This will ensure that everyone is kept safe and no-one has an accident. 4. I have had a few complaints about a couple of parents using inappropriate language on the playground. Please can I ask those parents to respect that this is an infant school and many parents do not want their children subjected to this sort of language.
