Each module consists of online homework, lecture videos, self-assessment quiz, problem-solving video for additional practice, and discussion posts. All of this material is due for completion every 4-6 days at 11:59pm. Please follow the schedule closely for summer due dates as the dates vary from week to week. For each module, homework exercises will be selected and assigned at http://hacc.mylabsplus.com with expiration dates and completion times listed at that site. Completion will help practice skills and concepts and prepare the student for the quizzes/tests. Students will have 5 tries at each
problem in each homework section. After the due date has passed, students may continue to work on the homework assignments for 50% credit. In addition to the homework, students can find lecture videos that correspond to each section under the multimedia tab. Self Assessment Quizzes Problem-Solving Videos Online Quizzes Each module includes a self-assessment quiz that may be completed for 2 points EXTRA CREDIT on the proctored exams. In order to receive this extra credit, each quiz must be completely worked and uploaded to the course dropbox before 11:59pm on the due date for each module. Each module includes a short video of this instructor working additional problems from the material for that module. Watching these videos will provide further needed practice as you prepare for quizzes and proctored exams. Six online quizzes of multiple-choice and open-ended types are scheduled as stated above. Students are required to log on to the Desire2Learn MyLabsPlus website to take the quiz before the due date. Students may take each quiz up to 3 times. The highest grade will be counted. Students should set aside enough time to finish the quiz in one sitting. Once the quiz has started, students have to finish the quiz within the allotted time and will not be able to return to the quiz later. The back-key may not be used during the exam or students will not be able to complete the exam. Since the quiz is a timed quiz, be sure not to take the quiz during heavy Internet traffic hours or the last hour when the quiz will expire. It will be the student's responsibility to make sure his/her computer, all plugins, and Internet connection in good working condition while taking the online quizzes. Discussion Posts Proctored Exams Students are required to write a discussion post(s) for each module. Follow all instructions and due dates in order to receive full credit. Also, students should make use of the discussion board to interact with other students and post questions and difficulties. While the instructor does read these posts, the student should contact him directly to expect a quick response. Three required proctored exams are pencil and paper exams and will be given during the exam periods posted by the Virtual Campus. Students are expected to log on to the Virtual Campus web site to check the actual dates, times, requirements, and location at their campus. A student may take the exam at any of the five campuses. If a student does not take proctored exam the instructor may drop the student with a failing grade. Summer 2015 Dates Exam 1-June 15-16, 2015
Exam 2-July 13-14, 2015 Exam 3-August 10-11, 2015 (Comprehensive Final Exam) Attendance and Participation Grading Students are expected to log in Desire2Learn on a regular basis and are responsible for all class related work and assignments. Attendance/participation will not be used as a criterion for grading for any student not dropped for excessive absence. Recognizing that regular participation is essential to success in any course, the instructor shall have the right to recommend to the Division Dean that a student be dropped from the on-line class environment and assigned a grade of W or F. Excessive absence is defined as not logging into the class for a 2 week time period or missing a proctored exam. The following scale will be used to assign the final grades. All on-line quizzes are available for 48 hours and proctored exams as scheduled by the virtual campus. Note these dates prior to registering for this class. Please make note all due dates for quizzes, tests, and homework so you will receive full credit. To succeed in this class you will need to: Log into the class 5 times a week. 1. Print out a syllabus and highlight the due dates and times of all online homework assignments, online quizzes, proctored exams. 2. Read the News and Discussion Board every time you log into the class 3. Work through all of the assignments for each module as assigned 4. Post questions on the Discussion Board concerning the concepts and skills that are introduced in this course that you do not understand, or respond to questions and give explanations to other students in the class. Students who participate in this class by sharing questions and answers regularly do very well.

Academic Dishonesty If a student is found cheating in a test/quiz, he/she will receive a grade of zero for the test/quiz. If cheating is repeated, he/she will receive a grade of F for the course. Be sure to read the Academic Honesty in the Student Handbook. Academic dishonest is defined as an intentional act of deception in which a student seeks to claim credit for the work or effort of another person, or uses unauthorized material or fabricated information in any academic work. Add/Drop Policy 1. The student will receive a grade of W with progress grade of at least 60%; otherwise, will receive a grade of F. 2. It is the student's responsibility to follow the add/drop deadlines. 3. Drop dates 100% Refund, June 2, 2015 50% Refund, June 12, 2015 After this date no refund and a grade must be assigned. Students who miss any major tests without contacting the professor or fail to participate in the online assignments for more than 14 consecutive days will be subject to being dropped from the class at the discretion of the professor.
