Similar to a pilot who learns flying an aircraft in a flight simulator, teams of students take the responsibility for successfully running a business in a competitive environment. International Management as a subject; analyzing the performance of a business; balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement; managing profitability, productivity and liquidity; organizing the value chain effectively; modern tools for managing the revenue side of a business; modern tools for managing the expense side of a business, value based management. Case Studies and script. 422 Core Competencies of International Management 4 5 This module begins with an overview over most important international management skills. Later on, the emphasis is placed on working on newest case studies which change from semester to semester. Success in business comes from experience and knowledge, from the ability to analyze and reflect, from observing and interacting with others, and learning from these encounters. The case method is based upon the belief that management is a skillful art rather than a collection of techniques or concepts. 106 Business English Basics (B1 B2) 2 3 This course should help students to extend their existing knowledge of languages at level B1 B2 (Independent User) generally and technically to expend to communicate in the international business world. They acquire basic knowledge in business English and work with them in different exercises. The students have the ability to speak about their apprenticeship and their studies and know basic university vocabulary. They know the vocabulary for describing companies and their structures. They are familiar with the standard expressions of business correspondence and could write short e mails and letters. They also know the common expressions to do business calls. Their terminology has enlarged with further topics. They are familiar with common business texts. They dispose to do a professional presentation in English. They verify teamwork by acquire and enforcing these presentation in groups. The course continues with a content based approach in which students read and analyze articles from the Financial Times, The Economist, etc. to develop reading skills and build up a stock of key 4
vocabulary. Topics covered include change, money and innovation. The career skills dealt with are dealing with figures, describing trends, diagrams and charts, giving presentations in English, preparation, group management, content, performance, visuals, giving feedback, participating in a meeting.
