What is XBRL? XBRL (extensible Business Reporting Language) is a computer language that, through a process of tagging, makes documents machine-readable. Applicability of XBRL MCA Circular dated 8 June 2011 Companies covered All companies listed in India and their Indian subsidiaries; or All companies with a paid-up share capital of Rs. 5 crores and above; or All companies with a turnover of Rs. 100 crores and above. Does not apply to banking companies, insurance companies, power companies and Non- Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) Documents to be filed Financial statements, including notes to the accounts Auditors report Directors report Failure to adhere to the time line may result in imposition of additional filing fees. A filing deadline of 30 September 2011 has been notified. Ram Iyer Program Director Name Position Experience Ram Iyer Director, Accounting Advisory Services, KPMG in India Ram is a chartered accountant and CPA. Ram is experienced in the fields of audits and accounting including Indian GAAP, US GAAP, IFRS and training. He has served several prominent Indian corporates, including financial institutions, with US GAAP and IFRS conversion. Ram also has significant training experience. He leads the training and XBRL services. Ram has designed and presented U.S. GAAP, IFRS and Indian GAAP training to several corporates, both multinational and Indian. He has also presented sessions at various institutions and professional bodies. Ram has led the global KPMG US GAAP internal training program development including mapping IFRS differences. As part of this project, Ram has trained KPMG colleagues in Western and Eastern Europe and Latin America. He specializes in providing audit and accounting advisory services to leading Indian and global companies. Surendra has worked on various IFRS convergence projects and is also actively involved in several IFRS training programs.
