Friday, 23rd June, 2017 St Bernadette s Roman Catholic Primary School Live the Gospel and when necessary use words Bernadette s Blog Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside! It s been a busy week of trips to the coast-all funded by our wonderful PTA. It was sun cream and sun hats time when our Early Years children launched our trips Monday-in weather more like that of Tunisia than Tynemouth! They had a great time paddling in the sea and building sandcastles. It was such a shame that storms ruined KS1 s visit. These trips have really put us in the mood for our SUMMER FAYRE TOMORROW 11am-2pm

Computing Week in Key Stage 2 Neil Brown the IT advisor from North Tyneside worked with all our Key Stage 2 children this week. They covered a wide variety of skills including control using lego robots. And We Do Lego kits.

Year 1 and Year 5 Family Liturgies On Tuesday morning Miss Willits Year 1 children led our Family Liturgy. The theme of the Liturgy was God is Love Everyone joined in as they prayed and sang lovely songs with actions. And on Wednesday, all our Year 5 children joined together for their family Liturgy. The theme of their Liturgy was Freedom and Responsibility Both liturgies were a special way to start a busy day. It was great to see so many parents and grandparents in attendance. Thank you for coming along and giving your support. Please check the website to see when your class is coming up.

Our New Library Is Here! On Tuesday morning we were very excited to see the new library shelving arrive and a fantastic library space develop before our eyes. As you can see from our photographs the Bookspace company did a great job bringing to life the vision of Mrs Walker and her fantastic team of librarians. Now we just need some smart new books to complete the picture! The librarian team can t wait to get back on duty opening up the library at lunchtimes to the rest of the school. I bet they will be inundated with borrowers. Don t forget that proceeds from the recent Book Fayre and Readathon will all be spent on new reading matter.

Summer Fayre Tomorrow Our amazing PTA have been busy all morning preparing for tomorrow. We really do appreciate their hard work! Thank you for all you do! Thank you too, to everyone who sent their forfeit into school with their child this morning. Remember, it s not too late for you to bring cakes or toys for the nearly new stall! Just drop them off when you collect your children at 3.30pm! And we would love to have some more offers of help for the day itself tomorrow. Even for a short time-don t be shy! Any offers gratefully received. Message for Y6 Parents! We'll soon be looking towards our y6 Leaver's assembly. In order to prepare for this, we'd be really grateful if you could dig out any old school photos of our y6 pupils (based in and around school activities) scan them and email them to StBernadettes.Primary@northtyneside.gov.uk Many thanks! READATHON RESULTS! A massive Thank you! to all the children who took part in the school Readathon which was raising money for children in hospital. We managed to raise 465.51 for such a fantastic cause and in the process earned ourselves 90.00 of book vouchers to buy new books for our library. Thank you for all your efforts. The School Librarians

The boys were victorious in the Wallsend Schools Shield last night. It took penalties to separate the 2 sides in a hard fought contest, but with what Mr Keys describes as a World Class goalkeeping performance and some amazing penalties - we won! Very well deserved! We are looking forward to seeing the trophy-when it is presented next week! A huge well done to our girls football team! They played a brilliant semi-final and won which took them through to the final! It was a thrilling game with fierce competition from Valley Gardens! The girls lost the final to come runners up of the whole league, placing them second out of 32 teams! The level of football was exceptional and we are so proud of the girls attitude throughout. Well done girls!! If you wish to purchase any school photographs, can you please return them to school by next Friday, 30th June. This will ensure that they can be processed and returned to school before the end of term. Please ensure you fill out your child s name, class and total amount on the photo sheet before returning it to us. Thank you! Celebration for Fr John Our parish priest, Rev. Fr. John McElhone will be celebrating 40 years of ordination very soon. To celebrate this wonderful achievement the parish is hosting a Family Picnic on Sunday, 16th July 2017 at 2pm at St. Aidan s School field Tickets are 50p for free drink and dessert Please bring your own picnic, rug, chairs etc ALL WELCOME (Contact Cheryl Douglas 07505315080 if interested)

Not only did she gain distinctions in her modern and stage dance exams but she competed in a dance festival in Durham out of 9 dances she placed in 7!! 1 3rd place, 4 2nd places and 2 1st places and she also won the most promising 8-9 year old for the whole festival! James completed the 3M Newton Aycliffe 3K (2 mile) fun run on Sunday 18th. June (Fathers Day). He finished 26th. out of 94 in a time of 17.11. That s amazing, James! Well done!
