WASHINGTON COUNTY 4-H AND FFA SCHOLARSHIP An annual scholarship toward expenses for advanced education (college, technical, nursing, etc.) is available to current or former 4-H members and FFA members. Each applicant must have a minimum of 4 years of completed projects during the last 6 years of eligibility. Current members must be in good standing. Former members must have been in good standing. All Washington County PA 4-H ers and FFA members may apply for a scholarship. The West Virginia 4-H ers from Brooke County and Ohio County WV, will be able to apply for a scholarship if they have exhibited at the West Alexander Agricultural Fair and they meet all the eligibility requirements. In order to apply the member shall have completed one year in an institution of higher learning. All applicants must have a 2.8 grade point average to be eligible for the scholarship. The number of awards and the dollar amount of the scholarship will be based on the number of applicants whose qualifications meet the requirements of the selection committee and funds available. The selection committee shall be comprised of members of the 4-H Advisory Board whose decision shall be final. Applicants must not have passed their 23rd birthday as of January 1 of the current year. Applicants must be 18 years of age and provide a copy of your high school diploma. You may receive the award once. Application must be complete or it will be rejected. Follow all instructions. A complete application must include: The most recent transcript of your grades from your college or school of higher learning must be emailed to plp3@psu.edu. A reference letter from your 4-H club leader or FFA advisor. An essay or narrative of at least 500 words explaining what I have gained from my 4-H or FFA experience. You must turn in 4 completed project books for 4-H or FFA from your last 6 years of eligibility. Each of the 4 project books must be from 4 different years. Copy of your high school diploma. In 2015, no volunteer hours are required. Starting in 2016, applicants must complete 15 hours of volunteer work with 4-H or FFA, per year. You must turn in the 4-H/FFA volunteer activity record sheet with your application. Activity record sheet is attached. One sheet for 2016 with 15 hours. In 2017, applicants must turn in two activity record sheets with 15 hours of volunteer work for each year. Total of 30 hours. In 2018, applicants must turn in 3 activity record sheets with 15 hours of volunteer work for each year. Total of 45 hours. In 2019, applicants must turn in 4 activity records sheets with 15 hours of volunteer work for each year. Total of 60 hours. In 2020, applicants must turn in 4 activity records sheets with 15 hours of volunteer work for each year. Total of 60 hours. This rule will follow for all years in the future. You cannot accumulate 60 hours of volunteer work in one year. You must do 15 hours per year. Year runs from October 1 to September 30 of each year Volunteer hours can only be done within the last six years of eligibility. For example if you are 13 years old you can start your 15 hours of volunteer work and by the time you are 16 you would have your 4 years. If you are 15 years old you can start your 15 hours of volunteer work and by the time you are 18 you would have your 4 years. The applications must be mailed to the extension office or dropped off in an envelope with all parts of the application included, and letter from your 4-H leader or FFA advisor. The grant is paid directly to the student and will be awarded at the Washington County Fair Market Livestock Sale or the West Alexander Fair Market Livestock Sale.
