Session: Pledge of Allegiance: Invocation: Presentations: Wesley Norman and Mary Hopper led the Pledge of Allegiance. Hazel Brown had the invocation. Kelly Conner with Horace Mann presented 2 bicycles to each elementary school for the two students having perfect attendance at their school. Gift Certificates were given to high school students and teachers with perfect attendance were given a gift certificate.

Certificates were given to students in the following areas: Math Count Awards, Duke TIP (SAT high score Winners), Teaching Fellow Recipient and Governor School Attendees. Chris Greene, a teacher at West Yadkin School was introduced as 2009 Teacher of the Year. Chairman, Frank Brown presented high school student representatives Mary Hopper and Wesley Norman plaques from for their service on the Board for the 2008-2009 school year. #09-42 On motion by Hampton, seconded by McKnight, the Board approved Approval of the April 6, 2009 meeting minutes of the Board of Education and the April 27, 2009 Minutes: Joint meeting minutes with the County Commissioners. #09-43 On motion by Vestal, seconded by H. Brown, the Board approved the Consent Agenda: consent agenda items listed below: Personnel New Employees Forbush Elem. OOST Caressa Perry group leader Forbush Elementary School OOST Budget Amendments #42 51 Contract Agreement with DOT Starmount Middle School Change Orders New Student Representatives for Board of Education Career Technical Education F. Brown, H. Brown, Dezern, McKnight, Vestal Baity, Hampton #09-45 On motion by McKnight, seconded by Hampton, the Board approved the list of Career Status employees eligible for career status contracts. Contracts: #09-46 On motion by Hampton, seconded by McKnight, the Board approved the Probationary list of employees eligible for a Probationary contract. Each employee included on the Contracts: attached list is certified and qualified in the area of EC, Math, Science, JROTC, Guidance, Band and all teachers completing 3 or 4 years in Probationary status. #09-47 On motion by McKnight, seconded by Baity, the Board recommended Non-Renewal non-renewal of 1 st and 2 nd year Probationary teachers. Probationary Teachers: Baity, F. Brown, Dezern, Hampton, McKnight, Vestal H. Brown #09-48 On motion by Vestal, seconded by Baity, the Board approved raising the elementary 2009-2010 and high school breakfast and lunch fees by.20 cents for the 2009-2010 school year. Fee Schedule Elem. & High School: #09-49 On motion by Baity, seconded by Dezern, the Board approved the Title I Title I Application presented by James Bumgarner, Title I Director. Application: #09-50 On motion by H. Brown, seconded by Baity, the Board approved the request to Checking Accts open checking accounts at Southern Community Bank & Trust for Forbush Middle Middle Schools: School and Starmount Middle School. Information Items: 1. Administration has received the following resignations: Lydia Goodrum Teacher at East Bend School retiring effective July 1, 2009 Lisa Keidel Teacher at Forbush High School resigning end of school year Rebecca Hill Teacher at Forbush High School resigning end of school year Crystal Land Teacher at East Bend School resigning end of school year Angie Owen Teacher at Fall Creek School resigning end of school year Sandra Swift Teacher at Fall Creek School retiring end of school year 2. Administration has transferred the following employees: No transfers this month. 3. Administration has granted the following leave of absences: No leave of absences this month. 4. Forbush Middle School settlement was on the regular board agenda, but after conferring with Fred Johnson, School Board Attorney this item was considered a legal matter and moved to closed session.

5. The Board reviewed contracts and purchases since the last board meeting. 6. The Board reviewed student release information for students being released to other school systems. 7. Donald Hawks gave the Board a middle school update from each construction site. 8. The Board reviewed field trip information from schools. 9. The Board reviewed the June schedule of activities. The Board was reminded about the Retirement Luncheon to be held on June 11 at 12:00 noon at the Village Inn Conference Center in Clemmons. Mr. Brown informed the Board that the county commissioners have requested moving the joint meeting scheduled for June 29 to August 31. With no further business, Chair Frank Brown adjourned the open Session meeting to return to closed session at 8:00 pm. #09-50 On motion by Vestal, seconded by Dezern, the Board returned to open session after 2 nd Re-enter Open session of closed session. Session 2 nd time: 1. Dr. Brown discussed state requirements for Board development. Dr. Brown shared information on a pending bill in legislation that speaks to this possible requirement of Board members. It was suggested that arrangements be made to bring a consultant to Yadkin County to provide training for Board members. #09-51 On motion by Baity, seconded by Dezern, the Board adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Adjournment: Jim Benfield, Secretary
