Board of Education Yadkin County Schools Yadkinville, NC A regular meeting of the Yadkin County Board of Education was held on Monday, April 4, 2016 at 9:00a.m. at Stamount Middle School. Dr. Martin presented the Forbush Elementary School Lego Robotics Team with certificates for their achievements this year. September 26, 2016 was changed from an optional Calendar Change: teacher workday to a required workday in order to have Technology Day. #16-046 On motion by Baity, seconded by Hemric, the Board approved the deeding Deeding Land of land from Yadkin County Schools to Surry Community College to complete from YCS to SCC: the building of the new Industrial Training Center. This land is located at the Yadkin Early College. #16-047 On motion by Baity, seconded by Hemric, the Board approved the Rives

Rives & Associates Audit Contract: & Associate contract as presented. #16-048 On motion by Hemric, seconded by Baity, the Board approved the Summer Summer School Schooll Plan as presented. Plan: #16-049 On motion by Crews, seconded by Dezern, the Board approved the amount Lighting Project of $30,000 for the lighting project drawings for DPI. This request Drawings for DPI: is only if the Board of Commissioners agree to pay the cost of the lighting project as requested. Information Items: 1. Jimmy Redman Science Teacher at Forbush High School retiring effective July 1, 2016. Deborah Griffin PreK Teacher at Yadkinville Elementary School retiring effective July 1, 2016. Jill McCormick EC Teacher at Forbush High School retiring effective July 1, 2016. Doug Sheek Temporary Teacher Assistant at Yadkin Success Academy resigning effective March 21, 2016. 2. The following employees have been transferred: Elizabeth Steelman Part-time custodian at Forbush Elementary School to part-time custodian and part-time Child Nutrition at Forbush Elementary School. 3. The following employees have been granted a leave of absence: Russell Caudill Business Teacher at Forbush High School FMLA beginning April 4, 2016 and ending April 20, 2016. Ashton Middleton Theater Teacher at Starmount High School maternity leave beginning May 24, 2016. Alicia Johnston Music Teacher at East Bend Elementary School FMLA beginning March 9, 2016 (intermittent for one year).

Lori Laws Teacher at Jonesville Elementary School maternity leave beginning April 5, 2016. Mayghan Watson Teacher at Fall Creek Elementary School maternity leave beginning April 1, 2016. Lynette White Spanish Teacher at Forbush High School maternity leave beginning April 25, 2016. Tracy McDonald Teacher Assistant at East Bend Elementary School maternity leave beginning May 11, 2016. 4. The Board reviewed contract renewals for teachers and administrators. 5. The Board reviewed student releases. 6. The Board reviewed Contracts/Purchases. 7. The Board reviewed water system improvements for Forbush Middle and Forbush High Schools. 8. Dr. Martin discussed with the Board budget items for 2016-2017. He indicated to the Board that several of these capital outlay expenditures are requests from the County Health Inspector. Dr. Martin stated we plan to bring the budget resolution to the Board at the May meeting. 9. The Board reviewed the April schedule of activities. Comments Dr. Martin thanked Dr. Shockley and Mr. Rogers for being at the meeting. He stated he was excited about the partnership with Surry Community College and that we were doing some really good things to benefit students and citizens of Yadkin County. He also stated he was appreciative to be a part of this partnership and thanked the Board for deeding the land to Surry Community College. He thanked Rick Swaim and Dawn Huggins for hosting the meeting. In addition, he congratulated the Forbush Elementary School robotics team, as well as all the robotics teams as they all raised their games this year. He congratulated Rex Baity for his achievement and Myra Cox who defended her dissertation last week and was now Dr. Myra Cox. Lynn Allred thanked Rick Swaim for hosting the meeting and stated it was always good to be at Starmount Middle School. In addition, he thanked Mr. Rogers and Dr. Shockley for being at the meeting and that this demonstrates the government and people working at its best when you can bring to together the school community, commissioners and the State. He stated he appreciated their efforts. He also congratulated the Forbush Elementary robotics team and stated he noticed the t-shirts they were wearing had a lot of corporate sponsors which signifies we were working together with the county. In addition, he congratulated Myra Cox and Rex Baity for their achievements. Tim Weatherman thank Rick Swam for his hospitality and the breakfast. He also thankied Dr. Shockely and his staff and he knows the students will be excited about this project as well as the community itself. He stated he has spoken with business and they are very excited that our students can further their education and have a career than can benefit our county. He also congratulated Myra

Cox on her achievement and stated he hopes everyone has a good first day back from spring break. In addition, he stated he attended a fundraiser at Jonesville Elementary School and that Ida Weisner had done a fantastic job and they had raised over $5000 for the school. Rex Baity thanked Starmount Midde School and Mr. Swaim for hosting the meeting. He also thanked Dr. Shockley for the partnership with Yadkin County Schools to building the new building. He stated he recently attended the Bingo fundraiser at West Yadkin Elementary and really enjoyed being there. He congratulated Myra Cox on her achievement. Lastly, he commented that he had recently spoken to the new Health Inspector and that he brought up the fact that Donald Hawks and Cindy Marion do a great job for our schools. Joe Dezern thanked Starmount Middle School for hosting the meeting and for the delicious breakfast, and stated they have a beautiful facility. He also stated he would like to say thanks to Surry Community College and the great relationship they are able to provide to the Yadkin County School system. He stated that anything we can do to enhance the betterment of education for students and Yadkin county community as a whole is great. He congratulated Rex Baity on his award, as well as Myra Cox for her achievement. He stated he hoped everyone had a good spring break and that we now have the rest of the year without any interruptions and hopefully we would have a really good end of the year. Sam Crews thanked Rick Swaim for hosting the meeting and stated it was his first time here and he thought the facility was really nice. He also stated he would like to thank Surry Community College for the great partnership they had with our school system. He also congratulated Forbush Elementary robotics team and stated those kids work really hard. He stated they would have robotics practice until 6:00pm and then come to the gym for basketball. He stated he hoped everyone had a good last eight weeks. Jennifer Hemric thanked Rick Swaim and Starmount Middle School for their hospitality. He also congratulated Rex Baity on his award and thanked Surry Community College for their partnership with Yadkin County Schools. In addition, she stated she was proud of Myra Cox for her achievement and knew she had worked hard to earn her doctorate. She also stated she recently attended the Chamber of Commerce meeting that was sponsored by Yadkin County School and that Melanie Matthews did an outstanding job of representing our schools and showing what is great about our school system. She stated she appreciated Melanie showcasing Yadkin County Schools. Howard McKnight thanked the Starmount Middle School administration and staff for hosting the meeting. He also stated he appreciated Dr. Shockley and Mr. Rogers being here and was looking forward to the completion of the facility and students being able to take classes there. He informed the Board he had recently attended the young authors presentation at Yadkinville Elementary School and that this was very interesting to see as the authors were very young students to teachers sharing what they had composed. He congratulated Dr. Cox on her achievement and Rex Baity for his award. He stated the next Board meeting would be held on May 3 at Forbush High School with closed session beginning at 9:00a.m. #16-050 On motion by Baity, seconded by Crews, the Board adjourned at 11:05a.m. Adjournment:
